I've been suffering from insomnia for a few years now. Been prescribed almost every sleep aid available; the OTC's are of no benefit, and the sleep aids I have been prescribed have not been beneficial either because my tolerance to controlled substances is so high due to medicinal treatment for other chronic illnesses.
Can anyone suggestion a sleep aid that has helped them achieve more than 1-1/2-2 hours of continuous sleep?
I was wondering how doctors could miss my symptoms as they were, Fatigued, swollen calves and fingers and face, mood swings, extreme dry skin on legs and middle of back and other areas, major brain fog and insomnia so bad that for three days and nights could not sleep at all and lunesta and ambien done zip 30 mg of lunesta and not even a nod off. I did get my doc to listen and he has me on levothyroxine 0.
Which sleep aid is less addicting and less toxic, ambien or lunesta. I have heard ambien is hard on your liver.
But after a bed svt episode in december, i have been needing something stronger for my sleep anxiety. My doc also recommended me Lunesta but im too scared to try it, its 3mg. I think that might be a too high of a dose. Does anyone know what can help me sleep without anxiety? Has anyone else tried Lunesta for sleep anxiety. I have tried not sleeping with any med but end up staying up all night panicing even though i am super tired. Please help me get back to sleep so i can focus more on my life.
My psychologist told me to ask my GP about Lunesta, and a family friend said to ask about Secobarbital. But if I am not mistaken, barbiturates aren't used anymore and Lunesta is in the same class as ambien so wouldn't lunesta cause me to do crazy things I don't remember?
Please help me find a sleeping medicine that will give me some relief.

Lunesta and Rozerem are good options for sleep, especially Rozerem which in working like melatonin can actually adjust the sleep cycle. However, if Effexor was prescribed as an anti-depressent let that get adjusted before trying additional sleep aids as untreated depression causes insomnia.
Changed antidepressants 3 weeks ago from Lexapro to Bupropion Xl 150... Bad insomnia hit this week... up for over 36 hours. They gave me Lunesta 3mg. I have taken 2 nights in a row and sleep well. Then today Pins & needles in arms, legs, feet, and head. should I be looking at thyroid again and not the new meds?
Hey all, so I got tired of not sleeping more than 4hrs a night after being off of Tramadol 42days and my Dr gave me Lunesta. I asked if it was addicting and he said yes but you won't buid up a tolerance to it... I would like to hear this though from someone that has taken this medication and has had to come off it... How hard was it? What where the wds like???ect.ect any info on this would be appreciated...Thank You.

The highest available dose of Lunesta is 3mg. Recently, thought is that Lunesta, Ambien, and others in this class are very similar to benzodiazepine drugs. But I haven't read much about addiction or withdrawl from these meds. Seems like insomnia would be a given, but you could try melatonin or valerian root to combat that. Good luck either way.
I"m sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with sleep. I can definitely relate - I, too, have severe fibro and the insomnia can be absolutely horrible. I also have severe pain with my fibro, so for me it's a vicious cycle quite often - I have more trouble sleeping because I am hurting and I hurt more becuase I'm not getting enough sleep.
I currently take Ambien 10mg nightly for my sleep aid. There are some nights that it helps and others that it doesn't.
Personally, I would give it more time. For me, sleep was one of the last things to get back to normal for me after I detoxed. It took a while. Instead of asking the doc for a sleeping script you may want to try some natural remedies. I will post a list below. I used the Kava in tea form myself and found success.
I dont know why it is making me nausea. My doc then perscribed lunesta 3mg. Has anyone tried lunesta and experienced better sleep with it? I am afraid of trying lunesta because i dont want to feel so nausea again. I didn't take any sleep med last night...didnt have a very good sleep but still i feel nausea. I need something to help me sleep without causing nausea and to help me sleep like a baby throughout the night pleaseee.
As petal said in the other post you posted this in - absolutely no reason to be paying $300 for a visit to a general practitioner. Much cheaper options out there and also always make sure you are specifically asking for the cash price when you are seen. big difference in prices if you don't specifically talk to the clinic manager about self paying.

Rozerem can as well and since it was developed from Melatonin even though it is a prescription medication it actually adjusts the sleep cycle as well as promoting sleep. I would ask about those two instead.
