Lunesta benzo

Common Questions and Answers about Lunesta benzo

lunesta

Avatar m tn The highest available dose of Lunesta is 3mg. Recently, thought is that Lunesta, Ambien, and others in this class are very similar to benzodiazepine drugs. But I haven't read much about addiction or withdrawl from these meds. Seems like insomnia would be a given, but you could try melatonin or valerian root to combat that. Good luck either way.
266660 tn?1189755834 Lunesta seems to work okay for me. I've only taken it three or four times (I only take it as needed and not on a nightly basis.) I was prescribed Klonopin for anxiety and sleep and she said to not take it with Lunesta (this is after I asked *her*, she didn't mention it until then.) The Klonopin seems to work as well as the Lunesta, BTW. Kevin, I've read that Lunesta and Ambien are the same "types" of sleep aids but that is all I know. I hope Ryan can clear this up for us.
Avatar m tn My doctor offered me Lunesta, but I'm not excited about another pill. I haven't slept much for two weeks and wondered if it was worth a try. Melatonin and Benadryl haven't helped much.
Avatar n tn Then you are taking 2 prescription sleep meds, ativan, which is a benzo ( I hope you realize that you cannot fix a benzo habit by taking another benzo), 2 antidepressants, neurontin,, and herbal remedies, which is VERY dangerous to mix with prescription drugs. If you take an honest look at your situation, you will see that you probably have a dependency to pills. You should really consider giving up trying to fix this alone, and get professional help from a medication addiction specialist.
Avatar f tn As of last week (maybe two weeks ago), I had reduced my Klonopin intake from 3 MG/day to 1.5 MG/day.
Avatar m tn (oral, months after hospital stay), did not effect me at all , possible benzo tolerance maybe? -Valerian Root, Kava, and Melatonin: None effected me -Antidepressants: Wellbutrin, Effexor, Cymbalta, Prozac What other drugs would be a possibility to help me get to sleep? My psychologist told me to ask my GP about Lunesta, and a family friend said to ask about Secobarbital.
Avatar n tn I also dont want to become dependent on it for sleep everynight, but i have become dependent on it. I have been taking somekind of benzo or sleep aid for the past 2 yrs. But after a bed svt episode in december, i have been needing something stronger for my sleep anxiety. My doc also recommended me Lunesta but im too scared to try it, its 3mg. I think that might be a too high of a dose. Does anyone know what can help me sleep without anxiety? Has anyone else tried Lunesta for sleep anxiety.
Avatar f tn I had knee replacement surgery in December. I switched to taking Lunesta about ten days ago after taking Ambien for three years. I don't know if that switch is trading one thing for another - but I guess I became much more aware of ALL drugs after a few days on this site. I took Xanax for the first two weeks after I got off the Norco and know it helped very much. I didn't realize that Ambien was a Benzo cousin to Xanax and all of those drugs.
Avatar f tn often a benzo withdrawal is given a weaker benzo to help thru///and ambien or lunesta are still better than continuing ur doc...not as strong as any benzo//tho drinking with either can cause blackouts//so no alcohol//and go straight to bed after taking these. if it is narcotic wd, then many use a benzo for sleep issues//not the best choice//but as mentioned//we do what we gotta do to reach our long term goal...
Avatar m tn ambien like eagle said..is not a benzo..altho lunesta and ambien are both chemically related to benzos..neither being a good choice if u have had a benzo addiction...number one thing is ur tolerence to both of these drugs will be every high from the get go...sleep is so important...how r things going needguidance?
Avatar m tn I am on Zyprexa, Prozac, lorazepam, lunesta and trazadone. I have taken lorazepam for 9 years 1-1.5 mg prn. Dr tries to wean me down but I get sleep deprived the go into full blown mania so he then restarts it. Is it possible weaning off benzos causes mania or is this part of my disorder?
Avatar f tn I have taken Lunesta and that still didnt help. I tried melatonin, benadryl and Lunesta and nothing helped. Looking for the answer as well. Hand in there and good luck.
323551 tn?1255174750 ambien nor lunesta are benzos...caution must be used especially on a medicaation used for sleep...sleep is priceless to many and psychological...and/or physical addiction is very easy to any sleep med that u depend on every night....i think the worst thing possible is for someone to depend on a true benzo for sleep tho...
Avatar m tn Trued that for maybe a month off and on. Then Lunesta - same story different verse. Finally I was prescribed Valium 10 mg. I took a whole one a few times but again began just taking pieces. All of this, like I said has been over about 5 months. There were periods in there I took nothing, but usually alternated between 1/2 a pill and a whole or sometimes even just a 1/4 of one.
1017452 tn?1254904998 Kia ora, your hubby is lucky to have you. Zopiclone is effectively a benzo, it acts on five of the benzo receptors as do benzos like klonopin & valium. Zolpidem, (aka Ambien) only acts on 2 & is less benzo-like. Unfortunately, I only discovered this after researching zopiclone when I had horrendous benzo type withdrawals, (from only one tab a night), when I took myself off it, which took months to recover from.

Avatar m tn without sleep, people can become weak which can lead to relapse....have u talked to ur dr bout the sleep issue? valium is a safer benzo/still addicting but not as strong as xanax....there r safer sleep meds..ambien and lunesta altho i have heard of people abusing those as well...not physically addicting as a rule tho....valerian root and ambien is what i used...many like melatonin...then there is benadryl which is usually the ingrediend in otc sleep aids like tylenol pm....
Avatar m tn My advice is first to throw out the sleeping pills. Benzo and non-benzo hypnotic drugs are very addictive and cause anxiety and agitation during the day. They will put you to sleep for a few hours then you wake up at 2 am and can't go back to sleep. You will probably have a very rough week or so after you stop the sleep meds; withdrawal symptoms can be very bad and include rebound insomnia. Tough it out until you are free of the drugs.
Avatar f tn I wouldn't stop the ambien CT either, it's a benzo like med and the risks are the same as for benzos. Please go see your dr and talk about a tapering plan. sophie.
Avatar m tn I finally went to my doctor and got a prescription for Lunesta. Worked like a charm. They are strong though, I cut them in half and they still worked great.
414333 tn?1226191493 I have never withdrawn from a benzo but have been in contact with someone who just went thru withdrawal from 2-3 mg she used every night for sleep for quite some time....she used a lighter benzo to withdraw and cut down over a couple of weeks...sleep and anxiousness was a problem...she has not stopped the weaker benzo yet but is taking a break i think...seems like after 2 weeks she is doing much better...
Avatar f tn I would ask around or research cos some doctors do not know anything about tapering off of benzos. Ambien is not a benzo so it is the xanax u need to taper off of. U did not state ur dose of either drug. A high dose of anything should be tapered in the sedative/anti-anxiety world but benzos for sure. There is an example of a benzo taper in an article in the health pages by a british Doctor who specializes in addiction.
