Lunesta and rem sleep

Common Questions and Answers about Lunesta and rem sleep

lunesta

Avatar f tn I've been suffering from insomnia for a few years now. Been prescribed almost every sleep aid available; the OTC's are of no benefit, and the sleep aids I have been prescribed have not been beneficial either because my tolerance to controlled substances is so high due to medicinal treatment for other chronic illnesses. Can anyone suggestion a sleep aid that has helped them achieve more than 1-1/2-2 hours of continuous sleep?
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, most doctors have very little experience and education with complex sleep issues and resort to writing meds. I had a sleep study 6 years ago. No apena, less than 100 minutes of sleep ( out of 360) and REM time under 30 min. I have tried everything including acupuncture, brain music, herbal remedies and most of the drugs on the market.
Avatar m tn Somebody please help, I haven't been able to sleep for about 5-6 months I toss and turn all night and never hit rem sleep. Then during my body feels very shaky and tired all day and bight. I can't fall asleep no matter what, I was taking ambion and now Im on lunesta. Just need to get back into my rem sleep.
519035 tn?1348275773 It is a natual enzyme secreted by your brain during your REM sleep that helps you maintain a deep sleep. I started taking it after not being able to afford the $50.00 a month script to sleep. I take it about 10 PM and by 11pm I am ready for bed. Though I have other problems that play into not getting a goods nights sleep... I found this helps. You can get this OTC in the supplement section. As always.... please check with your Dr. before taking anything!
1323549 tn?1276178147 My best friend takes trazadone and lunesta, which are both sleep aids and she says she still has trouble sleeping too. But there are a few names, trazadone and lunesta. Have you tried those?
Avatar f tn $$$ tip: if you do take Lunesta and are in the US and on private insurance, there is a copay program for this drug. They will pay up to $50 of your monthly copay. There was an issue of the NMSS magazine that devoted its cover story to sleep and MS - you can read it at: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/multimedia-library/momentum-magazine/back-issues/momentum-winter-2009/index.
1225178 tn?1318980604 Yes, I am taking Ambien CR, but I have been having to take some kind of sleep aid for years because I have narcolepsy which means the brain tries to go into REM sleep in the daytime, and can't go into REM sleep at night, so when you reach that stage, you wake up. Before tx, the only time I ever dreamed was when I'd take a nap in the daytime. I'm actually enjoying dreaming at night, but it is so strange... and I have to win this argument with my husband, you know.
Avatar m tn As rightly mentioned the patients with sleep apnea have frequent awakenings in the night due to blockade of windpipe and lack of oxygen, they are often tired and spend less time in REM sleep. REM sleep is that part of sleep cycle where dreams occur.
Avatar n tn I get better quality sleep and it feels more natural with lunesta. The nausea may just be a side affect of ambien. I love lunesta but do to the cost, I usually end up with generic ambien. Lunesta's patent has not expired yet.
Avatar f tn Lexapro is an anti-depressant, with some positive affects on anxiety, but it also has side effects, so it seems strong and wrong for what you have and it can be hard to quit taking if you're on it a long time -- the body has a hard time readjusting to not having serotonin artificially affected. I wouldn't think that's a good choice for a start here, nor would I Lunesta, in my opinion, since sleeping pills can leave one drowsy and bother REM sleep, as can Lexapro and clonazepam.
Avatar m tn this is just my experience, and I'm not on tx yet...I can't take Lunesta and ambien, ambien makes me feel nutzo the next morning, but many people are fine with it...I take ativan if I have had a lot of sleepless nights in a row, and at a very low dose...I find tranquilizers lull me into sleep, which I prefer...best of luck...
Avatar n tn The formal way of diagnosing narcolepsy is to undergo a multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) which is a daytime study after an overnight sleep study. If you're REM sleep deprived in general, you'll have what's called REM rebound, where you go into REM much quicker than normal. You may want to mention your symptoms the next time you meet with your sleep doctor.
Avatar f tn It's 3 weeks since I've been having a pretty serious depression, including anxiety & sleeplessness. I was put on a new antidepressant LexiPro (15 days now), xanax as needed, which I only need to "take the edge off" when Im shaky, and Lunesta to sleep. This is the 2nd time I've used Lunesta.
Avatar f tn Hey all, so I got tired of not sleeping more than 4hrs a night after being off of Tramadol 42days and my Dr gave me Lunesta. I asked if it was addicting and he said yes but you won't buid up a tolerance to it... I would like to hear this though from someone that has taken this medication and has had to come off it... How hard was it? What where the wds like???ect.ect any info on this would be appreciated...Thank You. Jeffi.
2021910 tn?1339896686 i ask my doctor wat i could take to make me sleep since im only get 3 hrs of sleep and she told me not to take sleeping pill. she recommended benadryl (not spelled right).
Avatar n tn Which sleep aid is less addicting and less toxic, ambien or lunesta. I have heard ambien is hard on your liver.
7540527 tn?1401187758 i have not had a dream that i remember in a long time Dreams imply REM sleep. REM sleep usually begins after a period of deep sleep known as stage 4 sleep. I only know this because i have taken part in 4 sleep studies over my lifetime. Besides tolerating my back pain i got the best sleep of my life while on the hydro.... I'm back to falling asleep for a few minutes here & there over a 4 day period before taking a lunesta to get 4 hours straight.
Avatar f tn ) it made me so hungry all I wanted to do was eat, and it did not let me sleep. Fetzima is fairly new and not much reviews. I did try to research Lunesta and Addrell together, not finding anything on those 2 together. The info I find on long term Lunesta use states if the person does not have prior drug abuse (I've never had this issue) there was reason to be concerned. I was not having any side effects from them at all. Question- has anyone else had problems with Lunesta and Adderall?
867808 tn?1239482070 Narcoleptics go into REM sleep very quickly, most people take about 90 minutes to reach REM sleep, but narcoleptics usually take anywhere from 10-25 minutes. REM sleep is also when you dream. You can still be asleep for hours and hours and still be sleep deprived all because REM does not occur. This could be caused by stress (such as that feeling where you have a lot on your mind and can't fall asleep) that is causing you not to get REM sleep or another medical condition.
612551 tn?1450022175 During sleep, the body cycles between non-REM and REM sleep. Typically, people begin the sleep cycle with a period of non-REM sleep followed by a very short period of REM sleep. Dreams generally occur in the REM stage of sleep. A lot of studies are going on to study the importance of REM sleep, which is the dream phase of sleep. Psychologists generally agree that achieving the dream state of sleep is a critical element for maintaining good mental health.
Avatar m tn The highest available dose of Lunesta is 3mg. Recently, thought is that Lunesta, Ambien, and others in this class are very similar to benzodiazepine drugs. But I haven't read much about addiction or withdrawl from these meds. Seems like insomnia would be a given, but you could try melatonin or valerian root to combat that. Good luck either way.
335728 tn?1331414412 ll add a new category of treatments called anti-depressants to the sleep tracker in the near future. Zopiclone is actually the generic name for Lunesta, so go ahead and use Lunesta (already in the tracker) to track usage of Zopiclone. We'll let you know when anti-depressants are available to track.
Avatar m tn However, and this is the caveat that I think is most significant in your case, REM sleep does have an important function. During REM sleep, we dream, and during this time we are "consolidating" memories and things we learned during the day.
Avatar m tn That is how I got dx with Narcolepsy. I get no stage 4 sleep and very little REM at night. However, I go into almost immediate REM during time I fall asleep during the day.
Avatar f tn My husband stops breathing and is trying to jerk and wake himself up to breathe. He has sleep apnea. If he has bouts where he isn't breathing then he needs to see a doctor. Just checking.
Avatar f tn Usually this works fairly well, though my sleep is constantly interrupted and I feel exhausted in the morning and sometimes all day. It's as if my body gets tired out from the effort of trying to sleep. I know I don't get much of the deep restorative kind. Often even Ambien or Lunesta doesn't work too well either. Of course I could go for the sleep study, but I hesitate because from what I can find out, it's not likely to do much to solve the problem.
254714 tn?1316613355 0% and stage 4 sleep at 0.0% there was 3 rem sleep periods rem sleep was normal at 16.5% the rem latency was at 123.5 min.. the overall apnea hypopnea index was mild at 6.2 events/hr. the remspecific index was 1.3 events/hr the supine index was 7.8 events/hr there was 28 obstructive hypopneas with a mean duration of 14.8 seconds mean saturation was 98.2 with a nadir saturation in non- rem sleep of 98.0% and in rem sleep of 96.0% 100.
