Lumps behind both ears

Common Questions and Answers about Lumps behind both ears

bumps

I have had a hard pretty large lump behind both of my ears for awhile now. They do not hurt when touched but sometimes I get headaches and when working out it feels like a lot of pressure is pushing on the lumps. There is no discoloration but the lumps are visible because of their size. I am nervous because they have not gone away, do I need to go see a doctor? I am currently away at school and the doctors out here are horrible! thats why I have not seen a ENT or doctor yet.

Hi im 26 and female. Behind both my ears about half way up my head I can feel a small lump on each side under the skin which feel as hard as bone. They have always been there about as long as I can remember, I assumed they were cartlidge or bone I was feeling, is this correct or could it be anything worse. They dont hurt to touch nor do they move, this isnt behind the ear lobe so know not a gland, much higher up on the head behind the ear.
Hi tiger01, Both my sons have these lumps behind and which is a little down from the ear. I have had my sons to immunologists and about every doctor you can think of as they were very ill as babies. A specialist told me the lump was due to all the recurrent ear and throat infections they had....and they had plenty. Eventually, they both had 2 sets of tubes and tonsils out, which helped tremendously. The specialist told me it was to be of no concern, unless it continues to grow.
this is actually for my husband, he has recently noticed a hard lump behind his ear and has grown to be very worried about it. He actually has lumps on both sides behind his ears but his left side has grown enough for him to take notice in it, it is hard and does not move around, is not tender to the touch nor is it red or irritated in any way on the outside. He says that it doesn't cause him any constant pain but every once in awhile he will get little sharp pains where the lump is.
My mom and I have both had a lump behind our ears and it was from our earrings. I would talk to you doctor though if you are still worried to ease your mind.
I was taking 1000 but ran out and bought the wrong one so I thought probably be ok just give me more energy. Well all of a sudden I now have a small lump behind both ears (I guess on the bone), back right side of skull, and 1 back of neck which is almost gone. Just curious if it's because of the increase of b12 or what? I'm not sick nor have I been in like 3 or 4 weeks, never noticed them before. Just seems like they're popping out everywhere??
I have a horror story about lumps behind ears. My son who is now almost 2 years old at about 5 months old had a small almond sized lump behind his right ear. The day that we noticed it 6/2/2006 we took him to the pediatric urgent care facility at our hospital where the on call doctor informed us that it was juat a swollen lymph node and take these antibiotics and it will go away. 10 days later having given him all the antibiotics the lump was now the size of a walnut.
Recently ive noticed some lumps on both my ear lobe and behind my ear. Im very concerned. I don't know if these bumps have anything to do with my previous cancer or if it is just something completely unrelated. Please give me some insight on what this could be.
The lumps dont hurt and there is no redness. he lumps behind the ears dont move. Are the lumps related to Herpes? Can so many lumps pop out simultaneously so quickly? I`m really upset. Pls guide me.
Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Symmetrical lumps behind the ears could be swollen lymph nodes. If you have dandruff in hair then it could be due to this. It could also be a neurofibroma or a benign condition of localized collection of nerve and fibrous tissue. The lumps could also be a normal variation of the skull bone. Normally this lump should not cause any problem as it has been there for as long as you remember. Watch the lump. Do not touch everyday but once in 10-15 days.
it might be a cyst, i have them behind both ears have since i was a child..i find when i get run down they tend to swell a little.. my doc has always said its nothing to worry about..their is no pain..
Lump behind the ear which is hard and painful could be an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection), an infected cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). However swollen lymphnodes behind your ears could be due to chest infection, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, or infection of ear. The inflamed nodes settle down with time. However, it is important you consult a doctor and get this examined.
A couple of years ago I had a tumor removed from behind my right ear (benign tumor). Last week behind both my ears including earlobes it started to itch like crazy and I even felt two or three very small lumps behind my ears. They weren't sore but now I don't feel them anymore, the itching is getting worse. I started to get very light ache in my left ear canal this week but it comes and goes. It tend to get more than one headache a day which turns to migraine if I don't take something.
Last week I started getting the full blown behind the ears yellow discharge and scales. I can't take it. I am at a loss. I have found that behind the ears and most of what is posted here is related to Seborrhoeic Excema. People with this have a reduced resistance to yeast, which explains the beer offsets for some. It's not contagious or related to diet, but can be worsened by certain yeast present in the system. I am going to try probiotics today.

On both shins, one then the other, and also other places like my forehead and behind ears. they are definitely allergy related as they are sore and itchy then after they go down there is swelling for a while. I pinned it down to food colouring, asprin type medicines, and some viruses. I have had this since I was a child. With some viruses the lumps (uticaria) are very widespread.
Hi, Please have a surgeon evaluate the hard, growing, lump behind behind your ear. About your other conditions, please continue to be under follow-up for the GI and neurological symptoms. Please post additional questions if you need more specific advise. All the best, and God Bless!
I am sooooo grateful for your medical knowledge! I wish I knew some of the stories behind some of those lumps on the other site are. I'd be interested in finding out how long the node took to swell to those enormous sizes. Just out of curiosity. I heard back from the lady that emailed me (my messages) yesterday… I am debating if I should post it or not. She claims to be a therapist and claims to have offered help in her first message. Or just let her go by the wayside.
They are situated on both sides of the back of neck..down near hairline and behind the ears. They are very sore to touch, feel like small round balls and keen be seen by others. There is now a total of 8 or so swollen glands/lumps? When I tilt my head back, it causes discomfort and I do have slight headache ? Is this a reaction to hairdye? Should I see a Doctor ...Quite concerned because they are quite sore...Could they be malignant, cancer?
Starting in Oct of last year (2010), I randomly noticed two large lumps on the back of my head/neck. Both sides were swollen quite a bit and kind of banded all the way across the base of my skull. This was the first time that I had noticed it and even though it caused discomfort I figured I would sleep on it and it would go away. Well It didn't... Here it is almost a year later and I am still dealing with these swollen lymph nodes.
He is a long haired collie-cross farm dog (ungroomed of course!) and he has hard lumps of tangled hair behind both ears. Removal would have to be done professionally.
I have also developed a rash on and behind my ears it's very itchy and fine bumps. I've been to the doctor and she has out me on an antibiotic for a bladder infection. Are these symptoms normally associated with a bladder infection?

I feel tired much of the time also. This has been going on for 4+ weeks. I have taken 2 different sets of antibiotics now with no impact also nasal spray (steroid). I am unable to pop my ears at all right from the start. I feel no dizziness.
I have noticed the lumps behind my ears for several years, and more recently noticed a lump under my chin about a year ago. The ones behind my ears seem to come and go, but the one under the chin seems to always be there, I also noticed one on the left side of my neck that seems to change in size. Does this mean an increased risk of thyroid cancer?
