Lump in back of neck

Common Questions and Answers about Lump in back of neck

lump

Hi - I've had a very small lump in the back of my neck for a few months now, since about July I think. It's about two inches from the base of the ear towards the middle of the neck and about 1/2 to 1 inch down from the hairline. Does anyone know which nodes those are - I've seen conflicting info from websites. And, how likely is it to be something serious? I don't think it's gotten much bigger than from I first discovered it, but the area seems more irritated now.
I woke up Saturday morning and got in the shower, I noticed a lump on the back of my neck while washing my hair. The lump had a appeared over night, and is tender to the touch. I am having a hard time distinguishing between it being a knot in my muscles or it being a swollen lymph node. My neck on the right side is very tight and sore. How do I tell the difference and should I go to the doctor??
Hello, There are many causes of lumps in the back of neck. The most frequently seen lumps or swellings are enlarged lymph nodes, which can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, malignancy, or other rare causes. The lymph nodes in the back of neck are the occipital lymph nodes, the posterior cervical lymph nodes and the jugular chain of lymph nodes. They can swell up after infection or allergic reaction.
my cockapoo has a lump on the back of her neck after having a tick removed ayear or longer ago and it left a small bump and now its geting bigger the size of a dime doesnt bother her and shes not sick what could it be?
The bump comes and goes every two weeks. The first lump was right in back of my neck. Then after a month of so another one on the right side of it. And of course more headaches. Then another one to right of that the second. So now there is three. I know I need a check up but my appt is not until next week. Is this normal or should I really be concern? Thanks!
It is difficult to diagnose a lump on net. A hard marble size lump at the back of neck would usually be a lymph node that swelled up in response to an infection, the commonest being dandruff of hair. This can be tender if inflamed. The other possibilities is that it is a lipoma (localized collection of fat), a cyst, or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). All are harmless swellings. A neurofibroma can at times be tender. Hope this helps. Take care!

Last night I noticed a lump on the back of my neck, on the right side, at the base of my skull. It's about the size of a penny and doesn't seem to be moving around or anything. It isn't real painful, only if I poke at it. I haven't had any visual issues, nor terrible headaches or nausea or anything. I had my family and a couple friends feel it and they all said it feels like a tension knot.
About two years ago, while I was putting it up, I noticed a lump on the back of my neck. It is under my hair, almost at the hair line, on the left side of my neck on what feels like the left muscle of the spine, at the base of the skull. I hadn't thought of it in a while, but more recently I have been getting massive debilitating migraines. That's why I decided to ask a question here. It is about the size of a dime, maybe slightly smaller.

I have a small marble size lump on the inside of the right side of my neck. It is close to my esphogus and is painiful when I swallow or stretch my neck. It was sudden onset since last week. I am 56 yrs old. I have thyroid nodules which are benign and stable. I had blood work last month which was all normal. What could cause this condition?
I ignored them thinking that I just have severe PMS symptoms. About six months ago I noticed a lump on the right side of my neck. The doctors have checked me for diabetes, mono, thyroid, lupus, and many other things. I have also had a CT on the neck and an upper GI. The upper GI came back clear and the ct showed that i had a mass in my neck but they didnt do anything about it. Lymphoma is strong in my family and I am a little nervous. What should I do?
Is it normal to have small, hard, just slightly smaller than pea sized bumps in this area of the neck? Or is it a good chance of being cancer? I will ask my Dr this week, but I am hoping to get some peace of mind until then. Thanks.
Hi, can anyone help me with some advice on a lump in my neck. For the past 18months I've had a lump on my neck, just below my jawline about an inch from my ear. I have been to the doctors on 3 separate occasions to ask them what it can be and have been told it's "probably" my tonsil. Now, I understand that your tonsils swell when your ill but I've never been ill - no flu, coughs or colds.
I have recently come across a small lump in the right side of my neck located just past the halfway point of my neck and slightly towards the back (behind my ear as opposed to in front of it). The lump is not painful, hard, and I can move it slightly up and down, and it's not round more of and oval shape. I don't smoke or drink, I am however tired all the time.
