Lump between throat and jaw

Common Questions and Answers about Lump between throat and jaw

It is significantly larger than my left side. I also developed a lump between my ear and jaw. (same side) It is not something that is easily felt from the outside by others. However, I can feel it and move it around. It hurts to do so though. After six months of on and off again low grade fevers of 99-100 degrees (my normal temp is 97.8 - 98) I went to a walk in clinic. The doctor ran a blood test on me and determined that my blood work was fine. they thought I was okay.
i recently found a marble sized lump under the skin on my throat, between my jaw line and voicebox. to be honest i haven't really thought much of it until i coupled it with a few other symptoms I've felt the past 2 months or so, mainly headaches, loss of appetite and when i do eat, feeling ill after wards. because of this I've lost a lot of weight, feel lethargic and rarely sleep well. I'm 20 year old guy, non smoker, occasional drinker but as far as I know generally healthy.
So now, anyone know the answer to this. How can you differiate between swollen lymph nodes and muscles. Ive done some research, and the cervical and spinal access nerves are right along the Sternocleidomast muscle. Those nodes in particular are highly cancerous when their swollen and spreads. I have no idea how long these lumpy feelings have been there. Couple weeks ago I noticed one of them but never thought anything of it. I dont know if the others were there or not.
Last evening, i discovered a lump in the right preauricular area. The lump must be aprox. 1 cm in diameter, moveble, not tender and hard. Also under the jaw i have a tender small lymph node that started to hurt today. I also experience cold-like sypthoms (runny nose, sore throat); the temperature is between 36.4 C morning - 37.2 C afternoon/evening. I must mention that i have had a history of recurent synusitis and also a right ear infection 3 months ago.
I have fullness under my ears and jaw pain. It comes and goes and can be one side or the other or both. Sometimes it is just uncomfortable and sometimes very painfull. Because I have a LOT of allergies I've always assumed that was what it was. I usually feel a little better after I take a benadryl and aspirin. However I would love this problem to stop occuring. I was given a nose spray by the allergist and this seems to help as well but not completly.
While the most common head and neck symptom is a globus sensation (a lump in the throat), the head and neck manifestations can be diverse and may be misleading in the initial work-up. Thus, a high index of suspicion is required. Laryngoscopy can confirm the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux. Erythema of the posterior larynx may be seen, and the true vocal cords may be edematous. Treatment should be initiated with a histamine H2 receptor blocker or proton pump inhibitor.
I do know my sleep is almost non existent and the pain in my left ear jaw and throat gland is unbearable and so wish I could get to the root of the problem !! This is 6 solid months of pain there must be a solution or a proper diagnosis Im just not finding it !!
What frightens me is that my throat hurts and my jaw is somewhat sore and this initial lump that formed in my mouth suddenly. I am not very sexually active i have not had any sexual partners aside from my most recent gf since feb. Wat concerns me is i stayed over a friends dorm house got very sick took antibiotics it cleared up somewhat but i have a cough still, but then i have lump form in my mouth then coldsores then sores in my mouth and throat what could be causing this.
My throat is now showing swelling around the glands under the jaw, gettin intermittent throat and mouth pains, feeling of a lump in the throat (which I think is mucous coming down). The swelling isn't particularly painful, more uncomfortable. What really gets me is I've had two week long courses of different antibiotics, and while the pain that I originally had has subsided, the other symptoms haven't subsided. Stuff to worry about?
Also been really stressed about the possiblity of something serious sore throat, and some pain under the jaw. Could it be stress?
org/wiki/Torus_mandibularis You should never diagnose without an evaluation, but it's likely a torus mandibularis--a hard bony growth on the inner side of your lower jaw between your canines and pre-molars. It's often associated with teeth grinding, though no one is really sure. If it bleeds easily, develops patches of white or red and white tissue, or causes any pain you should get it checked right away, but it's most likely benign.
For the past 3 weeks my jaw pain has gotten worse and more consistent. Along lower jaw, sometimes radiates up jaw. Bi-lateral, and the muscle between my jaw bones in my neck also tightens up. This many times comes with shooting pains in my arms, more left than right but both. Mainly shooting, sometimes an ache and on rare occasion the whole left arm aches for a while. I've woken up with tingling in my fingers also.
Mouth feels better today, still have swelling to back of throat and dryness. Dentist had a look in mouth and said everything looks ok. Checked lump under my chin and thought it could be extra piece of bone growth, or perhaps from a bang when I was a child, but feels best to check it out. I explained that since Monday one of my top teeth had been hurting (3rd tooth along in the mouth, left side). I have had a previous root filling in this tooth.
The mucous sliding down the back of my throat is still everpresent, and causes me to constantly clear my throat, which oftentimes triggers a coughing episode, though the coughing has subsided considerably. Since my daughter recently had a c-section and has two other children, she's needed me to help her and I'm afraid to go anywhere near the newborn, not knowing if this mucous thing with the accompanying cough is contagious or not.
Now and also then, it feels like I have a lump in my throat. I can actually feel the drainage and has to spit it out regardless of where I am. It is disgusting and I am trying everything, non-meds. My primary tried to prescribe me with meds that had all sorts of wild side affects. I use nasal spray that helps a little. I even tried allergy meds like Claritin-no good. My main lacking step is drinking at least eight glasses of water. I really wants to get rid of this problem.
This morning I woke up and I was combing my hair and noticed a hard lump behind my ear where the skull meets the back of the ear. It is not so hard that I cannot push it down, but very tender. I have not been sick, I do not have any infection that I know of, what could be the cause of this? I noticed the people who posted said either swollen lymph node or cyst, but I have not been sick, and can a cyst just pop up over night? Please help!!
Since then the pain is in my shoulder, collar bone, mid arm (between the shoulder and elbow), elbow and wrist. My elbow is now very sore after typing or writing if it's not well supported on a desk. Although it doesn't hurt to the touch. My range of motion has decreased and I'm losing strength as well as the same symptoms are beginning in my R arm now. I've had an xray which showed nothing. Went to PT but wasn't getting better.
i recently found a marble sized lump under the skin on my throat, between my jaw line and voicebox. to be honest i haven't really thought much of it until i coupled it with a few other symptoms I've felt the past 2 months or so, mainly headaches, loss of appetite and when i do eat, feeling ill after wards. because of this I've lost a lot of weight, feel lethargic and rarely sleep well. Both doctors said it was not a lymph node which is positive but there is still a lump and I guess any unexplained lump is a worry. No other symptoms though.
Mine is a more dull pain, feels like a lump in my throat and hurts when I swallow. and it lasts a day or two. For any of you with similar experiences, does it happen every time you drink alcohol?
It doesnt hurt at all and the only reason I found is, I was rubbing my neck and felt a lump. It moves up and down when I swallow. If Im sitting relaxed it doesnt portrude my skin...but if I flex my muscles or make my neck tight it is a noticeable lump. I have been having alot of drainage lately if this is a symptom of something. I can touch it and it moves around and feels rather soft but firm at the same time. Can someone help me. Its really worrisome b/c I dont know what it is. Thanks!
It is located on the right side of my neck about halfway between my jaw and collar bone. It feels as if it is attached to the actual underlying throat structure (larynx? ...forgive my ignorance regarding anatomy). Furthermore, it is completely movable. I can push it in and out, and it seems to pop back into place when pushed in. Moreover, it is a rough feeling when it is moved.
for a while now ive been feelin pain under my jaw and throat and remember that the previous night well i was laughin there was big shoot of pain up the sides of my neck that went away and then a couple of nights later i had pain in my throat and jaw. i also found that my the gland on my left side (of my neck) is a bit swollen it hasnt gotten bigger int he past 24 hours and i can move it if i want and doesnt hurt to move but i can feel it when i think about.
My doctor thought that I had a growth and/or enlarged lymph node between my left ear and jaw; about 3 to 4 centimeters. It has been bothering me for some time now and I can feel it in my jaw, ear and swallowing, but the Surgeon she sent me to said it definitely was not a growth and/or enlarged lymph node (which of course is a relief). He said it was the carotid artery. Whats weird is that it noticeably sticks out and is different from the other side of my neck.
Throughout the entire experience, point pain is present in joints and other locations. Knees, Armpits, Pectoral area. Under right jaw (small lump) Right armpit-radiating to right bicep/deltoid-sore/numb. These pains come & go,disappearing from one area to move to the next. lump under jaw disappeared after a week. Stool returns to normal brown, still mixed as far as consitancy. No mucous recently. Lately I have also noticed almost daily stiffness on both flanks...
It has helped take away the soreness mostly, but once a month or so I get swelling again, in the throat, lump in throat. I have seen the ENT in October also, and he wanted me to stay on the Nexium, as the redness wasn't entirely healed, and I was still experiencing some symptoms. Tomorrow is my next ENT appt. I will post back after it. In the last 4 weeks I have noticed my right throat gland swollen, consistently, and in the last 3 days my right tonsil tingling and swollen too.
The Dr said it was fine. It was a post viral sore throat and headaches and just to manage the pain. It will go in time. The headaches are getting me down. So is not being able to eat. Any suggestions are advice would be most appreciated. Sorry it's such a long post.
It began in 1976 and re occurs every 5 to 6 years. I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out.
