Common Questions and Answers about Lump behind ear sore throat

lump

About 8 days ago she went to the doctor with strep-throat. Now today I noticed she has a lump behind her right ear, should I be concerned? I read it could just be her body fighting the infection. Should I get her to the doctor or should I just keep an eye on the lump for a few days? She is 8 years old.
Hi, A lump behind the ear in children could be due to throat infection, insect bite, accidental trauma to the site, ear infection , etc. Lymph nodes in the region are known as post auricular lymph nodes and can enlarge secondary to infection, inflammation, etc. You could try some warm compresses at the site, warm saline gargles for his sore throat and some oral antihistamine medications for the swelling. Does he have any other symptoms of fever, etc?

I just thought it was from my glasses but Friday morning I had a big lump behind my ear. it was about 2 inches long and kind of bean shaped. At the base of it, it was softer but sore if i rubbed it and the top of it was harder but didn't hurt at all. It also was a little itchy. We had a big function at our church this weekend that we were very involved in so i couldn't get it checked out. Saturday it was maybe slightly worse and Sunday I thought the swelling was less.
Hiya, I've had a lump behind my left ear for a about 3-4 weeks now.. It's small & hard & it isn't sore or tender at all.. I had a cold about 3 weeks ago so I presumed it was something to do with that, & my Dr. said it was when I went to see him, however, my cold has been & gone & all that's left is a sore throat.. But it isn't sore all the time, just at night when I'm sleeping?
I had a lump behind my ear when I was a teen. It was from mono. Do you have a sore throat or anything?
My 3 year old grandson has a hard lump behind the right ear on the skull area. I took him to the doctor and he said it is a lymph node doing its job. He said it should clear up in a week but it does not seem to be subsiding. Does anyone have any suggestions?

2 days ago i noticed a lump behind my ear (not on my ear but on the skull part) that is hard.It doesn't seem to have gone down over these two days. I have been also been having very strong and painful headaches for 5 days now that don't seem to go away. The lump is not painful to touch from the top but if I press it from the underside then it does seem to hurt a little. I was just wondering what it could be and whether i need to worry or not.

Hello, I have had a lump behind my right ear for approximately 18 months now and it has been progressively getting bigger. It started with pain in the area behind the ear, along the jawline and suddenly I discovered a tiny lump of about 1mm diameter. Over the last 18 months, this lump has grown to almost 18mm diameter.(less than 1inch) i have had several ultrasounds done which all came back as a possibility of a slow growing sebaseous cyst.
I have a small lump behind each ear but the 1 behind the right ear is bigger. I am also getting headache, earache and have a sore throat. I went to the doctor 3 days ago and they said it was a throat infection and the lumps were just lymph nodes. I dont see how a throat infection would give me headache and earach. He gave me antibiotics but they dont seem to be helping. I am going back to the doctor tomorrow as I am very scared now.

I found a lump behind my 4-year old son's ear....last week he had a sore throat in addition to him saying that a bug bit him in that same spot. It was red and swollen a week ago, now it's just a pea-sized bump. Since then he's had no symptoms of being sick, but the bump is still there.....is that a lymph node and are they reactive? I keep touching it to see if it's getting bigger. My pediatrician said it was nothing to worry about, but that's all I do....I worry.....just wondering.

I have a lump on my head, behind my right ear. It's about the size of a walnut. It's quite tender to the touch and painful at times. I've had it for 2 days. I have also been sick with cold (very sore throat and dry, consistent coughing). I have read the possible things this lump might be, but how would one go about treating it? I do not have insurance! How would a swollen lymph node behind the right ear (on the head, where ear meets the head) be treated? Many thanks!
Hi. I've had what appears to be a boil behind my right ear lobe. It sore, warm and slightly itchy. What worries me is right below it is sore, too...in my right side neck area. The last few days that area also feels like it is getting a hard lump under my skin, but this lump is not sore, warm like the boil behind my ear. My right side upper shoulder/neck is also sore. When I turn my head right it is sore. I'm not really sure what this all means. Do you think I should go to the doctor?

my 2 year old son has a hard lump on his head behind his left ear. We did notice this weekend (before we noticed this lump) a HUGE raised , red, insect bite on his scalp on the same side of his head as the lump- which definitely could have been infected. my husband insists this is a swollen gland due to the insect bite. he also has been fighting off a cold for over a week now. but he it otherwise fine- normal energy, appetite, no fever and generally healthy seeming.

I have a hard non-movable lump behind my left ear. It is not sensitive to the touch, but it does hurt. I haven't felt well in about a month. I feel extremely tired and ill feeling with a slight sore throat. I do have stuffy sinuses. Any suggestions?
Hi - I wrote in about my son's lump behind his ear. The doctor was not concerned at all - said it was probably inflammation - he went on Augmentin for two weeks and it went down, however, he got a ton of mosquito bites on his head, neck and face this past weekend, and I noticed another swollen lymph node - pea sized above the original one. Do bug bites harbor cause lymph nodes to swell? He has no other symptoms - like fever or lethargy or weight loss.
What could cause a knot/cyst behind my ear? I went to the doctor and she told my a lymthnode, but it has got bigger and more sore to touch. I have had an extreme increase in the amount of severe headaches I have been having. I do not know if that is related. I plan on making an appointment with an ear, nose, and throat doctor tomorrow. But I am becoming more concerned with the sheer size and pain it is causing.
Hi guys, So for the past 2 and a half months I have had this small lump behind my ear. Sometimes it gets very VERY small and I can barely feel it. But at other times is grows to about the size of a small pea. It doesn't really hurt, and is usually not tender to the touch, but it can feel a little irritated on some days. Is this a sign of lymphoma? I also think I have been having night sweats. I wake up in the morning and I feel really hot and uncomfortable. Thanks.
Good morning, I have had a dime size lump behind my ear for as long as I can remember now and just recently I realized that it is now very hard and tender to the touch. It had never really been hard before, it was always soft and felt something like a blood bubble would feel like. I have no health insurance so I am hoping that I can receive answers to help me decide if I should just try to come up with the money to see a doctor or if this is common.
