Common Questions and Answers about Lump at middle of collarbone

lump

A lot of people say it looks like one of those birds with the puffed out chest. The rock is at the upper and middle part of my sternum I think. And when I poke at it long enough it relieves minor amounts of pressure I couldn't feel till they were released. can anyone help to let me know what it might be??
It is quite uncomfortable and Benadryl will calm it down, but it never is really gone, and this is driving me crazy. I have night sweats constantly. Needing to change pajamas in the middle of the night, and my husband keeps suggesting that I sleep on a towel.... I'm 34, no history of cancer in my immediate family. I have had lumps in my armpits quite often, but not at the present. Once had some under my earlobe.
I have buried my head about it till now afraid of what it may be. The lump is non painfull and about the size of a marble. It is slightly visible and protrudes maybe a tenth of an inch from neck. it has grown very slightly in the seven years. The lump is hard and mobile under skin. it feels like its attached to the skin underneath. the skin over it is normal colored. it is located directly in the middle front of neck just beneath my adams apple.
Lump is about 1 inch above collar bone, just offset to left of middle of throat. It's where I'd expect my thyroid to be. Now noticeable without having to feel for it. I'm from Scotland and have a really horrible doctor, no people skills at all. Throat exam cursory at best, discussion of symptoms minimal. Only symptoms I think I may have and not sure these are relevant. Hot flashes, day and night but put this down to menopause, dry skin and sleep problems, again menopause??

4) Mild to moderate pain at times in my chest and around my collarbone (just kind of achey). 5) Lots of acid reflux, heartburn, "waterbrash", I drink a LOT of milk each day (lowfat) and take TUMS to put out the "fire". 6) Throat feels tight, constricted, lump in throat feeling, clicking sensation, swallowing a lot at times, etc. Do any (or all) of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone here?. What do the initial test results/findings mean?.
I've been taking them for 9 days now, its sort of ok, but hasnt made that much of a difference, I'm going to keep taking the Somac for at least a month and see what happens then. I also feel bloated when my throat feels at its worse and find it hard to talk, like I have to strain to say anything and cant hit high notes anymore, in fact it makes me tired just to talk lately. Also, my heart beats so fast.
I did send my son for the MRI, which showed nothing because the hyoid was not dislocating at the time, of course once we got into the car heading home it popped out 3 times. The imaging center told us to come back when it dislocates and they will do more testing. The problem is that before it would pop and he would push it back in, now it just constantly pops and he feels sore and as if there is a golf ball in his throat.
Since swollen lymph nodes occur with CFS, I was no concerned at first when the lower middle section of my throat started to hurt several months ago. The pain spreads throughout my collarbone area as well. I was assuming it was lymph node pain until I found a lump on my thyroid. After seeing my endo about it, she sent me for a sonogram.
Hello, 2009 has been the worst year of my life as it relates to my general health. Starting at the end of February, I've been dealing with a "bout" of IBS. It affected my appetite and all-told, I lost about 25 pounds, with other symptoms of lack of appetite, floating stools, and abdominal pain.
Not sure exactly the cause of this -- would repeat thyroid function panel to see if this is a subacute thyroiditis (would show hyperthyroidism) -- the high plt count can sometimes be an indirect measure of inflammation which would support this). Did the FNA show inflammation? Nodules do not typically cause fainting spells and if the thyroid labs are normal again then it's unclear.
That's where the majority of the pain was - in the midline of the name, right around my voice box (in fact at first I thought it was just a strained voice, til it got worse). It was extremely tender to touch from the outside, as well as severe pain on swallowing. The extra pain towards the ears was in addition to the main pain in the neck/throat. It sounded exactly like all the descriptions I'd read of thyroiditis.

remember my lump above my incision .. it was on the outside the size of a small pea and I kept saying how tight it was, etc., etc.
I had our son in the middle of the night in front seat of our brand new pickup truck on a ferry in Galveston. The severe abdominal pain started again once my son was born. We moved several hours away, and I had to find a new OB/GYN. One year later I had a positive pap and ended up having a biopsy of my cervix and then cryosurgery. The doctor was very cold and didn't even give me anything for the pain. When I told him about the painful bm's he said I needed more fiber.
This progressed to sharp pains in legs which progressed into numbness on my face, tops of hands, fingers, feet, left eye going blurry and then pressure in my middle back. At this point I am on Doctor (#3) and she told me point blank, “You are delusional and inventing these conditions”. I changed Doctors again and stopped the Prilosec and went back to Pepsid.
Bro-in-law inhaled a piece of brisket and it got stuck somewhere in the middle of his chest. He could still breathe, but his esophogus spazzed so badly it would go up or down. He tried flushing it down with water, and it just fountained right back up. Ended up he had to go to the ER and have it removed with the endoscope. The piece of meat had one - ONE! - bite mark in it. LOL! Even worse, it's happened again a couple times since then, but no ER trip required.
The pressure I have in my throat is there all the time and has been for a long time (well over a year), but in general, it's gotten worse over time. Sometimes now it's really bad and feels like I'm going to absolutely choke on it and other times, it's there, but doesn't feel so large. It's almost it is swells and then goes down only to swell up again. My ENT seemed to think that it did have something to do with thyroid even though he couldn't feel anything from the outside.

I have called almost a dozen times and not once has he called me back. No thoughts of shrinking it - but good thought.. good thing to bring up at my MD appt April 10th - thanks. I have not gotten any answer on any master plan - basically I think these doctors either don't have one for me - or they think I am too crazy to touch. (hopefully not) I do not think it is bothering me physically. it is kinda in that pocket between the left collarbone and cortaided artery.
I also realized while at work today, that at break I drink a cup of tea, so basically everyday for the last 7 weeks. Thinking of caffiene I only thought coffee totally slipped by mind, so maybe that has some play in it.
My GP thought he felt an ill-defined lump in my left breast (I am a male) and because my mother died of breast cancer at the age of 47 he ordered both mammograms and ultrasound to rule out breast cancer. He has also ordered CBC and TSH blood tests among others including HIV. He is out of the office and I won't have a visit until two weeks. However the US and Mammographic Tech said they saw nothing unusual. I have also had a chest xray which came back as normal for my age.
I work for a gov't agency making disability determinations. We lump hiatal hernia and GERD together. I noticed that part of the diagnostic criteria for GERD is substernum pain as well as pain in the shoulder and arm. My new doc explained that the stress test was good for 3 to 5 years. She said that since I've never smoked, have normal blood pressure and no family history of heart attacks before age 60, my risk factors were few(I am menopausal, tho). My cholest.
A neurologist i used to see diagnosed me with epilepsy at around 16 then had my primary care refer me to a knee specialist also because of knee pain he ordered an mri and at 18 i was diagnosed with osteoarthritis I don't know if it spreads or what but most of my bones and joints hurt, crack, pop, and my knees give out on me at times.
I have had it for months on and of. I have a lump constanly in the crease of my finger. If I go climbing or carry shopping bags its really painful. So I try to be careful not to put pressure on it to stop the "pop" which is even more excrutiating. Hope someone out there can help.
I never went through with suing because it was such a hassle and I was in the middle of getting married at the time. I was unable to extend or really use my right arm normally for about 4 or 5 months though and even to this day, my right wrist feels like it needs to be "popped" often, but other than that, it is back to normal.
