There is a possibility that the lump just below the ear lobe and at the jaw is inflammation of the temperomandibular joint. To get some relief you can try massaging the sore muscles. Massaging the muscles does not help every one. Also if the procedure is nor correct, then it can further aggravate the problem. You have to press on muscles to look for sore points. Then massage these points with short strokes.
on the left side of my face, right next to my ear and directly below my cheekbone on what I think to be my jaw joint, I have a penny sized round lump. It seems to be firm with a slight squishiness to it that alllows me to slightly move it with my finger. It is not painful to the touch, but can feel agitated after rubbing it. It often clicks and is an uncomfortable obstruction to opening or moving my mouth freely.
He fit me for a temporary mouth guard which is very awkward to sleep so I only tried it for 2 nights. Today I saw a new ENT. She said the lump was my jaw joint. She thought it sounded like a muscle or joint issue I was experiencing and suggested a different type of mouth guard. I also had a salivary gland biopsy (most painful thing ever) to rule out Sjogren's. One parotid duct did not seem to be producing any saliva. So I guess I am at the wait and see point.
I've been experiencing it for about two weeks. I feel the jaw joint right below my left ear hurts when I clench my jaw or sneeze (because I clench my jaw), or chew on that side. I have no tooth or gum pain. My ear feels clogged on that side as well. I'm not sure if I should wait and see if it goes away or see a doctor or if there is something I can do to myself.
I've always had what I thought was mild TMJ on the left side of my jaw, ever since I was a young child. It rarely caused pain any more severe than the occasional migrane (blind spots, dizziness, etc), though it would sometimes "pop" and stay locked for quite some time (but never more than a day or two). However, recently I have noticed that it is getting progressively worse at an increasing rate.
The tooth doesn't really hurt anymore but now it is the whole lower right side of my face. From under my ear (at the joint) all the way to my chin is tender, tight and swollen. Instead of having a curved jaw line, it's almost completely square on the right side. The right side of my lower lip is noticably raised. Also when I run my tongue between my teeth and cheek I can feel a lump. What's wrong with me? Should I go to urgent care or wait to see the dentist on Tuesday?
Hi, I'm hoping for some help with the following problem, as having just finished a course of antibiotics ( Azithromycin 500) for a suspected "lymph node infection" which apparently is pressing on the Trigeminal nerve. I am still finding the pain unbearable, & feel its only subsided slightly.
Hi, Please help! I suddenly had a sharp pain in the joint of my jaw, right under my ear, two weeks ago and my neck and throat were sore. I went to a doctor thinking I had an ear infection. The doctor said my neck had a cold. Since then the pain has increased terribly to my shoulder and back of left side of skull at the base and it is swollen. There is also some numb and tingling in my jaw and ear. Since Friday night I also started having this zapping feeling that is in my left foot.
I have a painful hard lump that has just appeared to the left of my right ear at the side of my cheek bone and upper jaw. it hurts! Any ideas?
joint pain (sporadic but symmetric--one day my knees a few days later my wrists, etc. major joints involved = knees, elbows, wrists, fingers, ankles, and hips) muscle pain and aches severe fatigue (no matter how much sleep/rest I get) muscle twitching (constant-all over my body, even my tongue!
it comes back sometimes but its yes its from your jaw... at least it was for me....worth a try if nothing else is helping... keep us updating..
Another cause for the pain you are experiencing could be temporomandibular (TMJ) joint arthritis. This is the jaw joint and inflammation of this joint can cause pain on opening the mouth and tenderness on palpating behind the ear. Check with your doctor to rule out this condition. Lymph nodes which are enlarged greater than one cm are significant. However, you can follow up to see how they are progressing. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Hi, This could be due to dislocation or swelling and inflammation at the temporo mandibular joint or the jaw joint. You should try some warm compresses, take some pain relief medications for the pain, antihistamine medications for the swelling and eat soft foods for the next few days. If your symptoms still persist, it would be advisable to consult your doctor. Let us know if you need any other information. Regards.
) about anxiety - where it mentioned joint pain. Just the typical fast heartbeat, dizzines, lump in the throat, ect. Anyone with similar symptoms - or just any insight about this please respond! Thanks!
I also have a swollen lump below my jaw in the right side - it may not be a lymph node - it is possible that it is your submandibular salivary gland. Check with your dentist - they know the anatomy of your mouth and jaw area. Typically the submandibular gland will swell without any pain, whereas swollen lymph nodes typically do exhibit pain of some sort.
I went to the doctor, but didn't have the lump at the time. The lump is on the same side as the positional vertigo ear. Any ideas what it could be?
The area just before my right ear, where the jaw joint is, is sore to the touch with a slight raised lump. I additionally have a hard sore bump behind the same ear, as well as feel as if my gland is slightly swollen and sore. I have had headaches consistently, as well as an area on the right side of my scalp that feels sore to the touch,. with what looks like a slight rash.
Not painful or sore, with the exception of my left armpit.Today, a week later, I have the pain in every joint, my entire jaw, have a big lump behind my right knee, which is the worst joint pain of them all... I have been having sudden and severe abdominal pain, some diarrhea, shoulder pain, Mussle pain in my back, as well as chest mussle pain, pain on my heels, etc. I have had a few migranes, nausea, and feelings of being disoriented, or choppy or slurred speech at times..

almost felt like a muscle crampy sort of hurt. but that came and went and only lasted a couple of hours at a time 5 hrs max at a time per day. That went on for a few days and then the crampy/pressure/pain started up by my ears. at that point the crampy/pressure/pain was much more constant. but still came and went through out the day.
No pain or change in size for at least 20 years. I found it years ago when massaging a sore jaw joint. It sort of feels like it's in a tendon and in front of the Tragus. I have TMJ, use a night guard and actually broke 2 teeth loose from the bone about 6 years ago when I fell asleep during the Superbowl and wasn't wearing my mouthguard.
One thing to bear in mind - I had (actually still have) a pea-sized lump on my jaw and had it checked out last year. My doctor said as a rule of thumb, if the lump is soft and can be moved around, it is generally harmless, but if it is hard, it needs evaluation. So it's a good idea to have it looked at as soon as you can.
It's not something that I would recommend the average pet owner try. A human doctor might be able to do it, because a jaw joint is a jaw joint, but as far as anesthetizing the cat first, I don't know if a human doc would know the correct dosage to give something as small as a cat. I am hesitant to post the method for realigning the jaw because I don't want anyone to try anything that might do more harm than good, so for that reason, I am not going into detail as to how to realign the jaw.
I am recently (3 years) diagnosed with Celiac but that seems to be under control with diet. I recently had a cold at Christmas, followed by a sore throat a little over a week ago. I had also recently flown to Alberta and had been a little run down from my travels. Monday morning, I noticed the joints on my left hand seemed stiff. I've had carpul tunnel (sp?) so O wrote it off as that or, possibly a pinched nerve because my back and neck were quite sore.
Throughout the entire experience, point pain is present in joints and other locations. Knees, Armpits, Pectoral area. Under right jaw (small lump) Right armpit-radiating to right bicep/deltoid-sore/numb. These pains come & go,disappearing from one area to move to the next. Lump under jaw disappeared after a week. Stool returns to normal brown, still mixed as far as consitancy. No mucous recently. Lately I have also noticed almost daily stiffness on both flanks...
I've brushed my teeth about 3 times this morning to see if it goes away, but this pain alike other, comes and goes in spuratic moments. 5. Lump in throat - At times I feel like I have a lump in my throat and it makes me want to swallow to make it go away. But again I cannot make out if it's my mind or if it's really there. Of course, the more I really think it's there, the more tendecy I have to swallow. 6.
The feeling is hard to discribe but its quite strange. When I look at certain objects such as trees, spears or anything pointy/sharp, I get this feeling within my eyes. This feeling forces me to look away from the object. I wouldnt call the feeling pain its more discomfort. Sounds really weird but I dont have a clue what it could be related too.
