Lump at base of throat

Common Questions and Answers about Lump at base of throat

lump

I woke up this morning with a lump at the base of my skull! It is also sore to tough the right side of my head! What could this be???
I can feel the entire thyroid, starting at the base of my neck and going all the way up to just under my chin - where incidentally I seem to have developed a double chin out of the blue. Just above this very top part (right wher my neck meets the underside of my chin) it feels like there are two small, hard peas - would these be lymph nodes? I also have what I think must be a lymph node at the top of neck on my left side near my ear.
VCD attacks, cough, voice problems, asthma, globus (feeling of lump in throat), constant need to clear throat, worsening of sinus condition, sore throat, pre-cancerous conditions of throat &/or esophagus, etc. SOME GER/LPR CONTROL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: STOMACH AILMENTS AND DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES, by Michael T. For the longest time, I had a symptom of something stuck in my throat, along with severe irritation and pain at the base of my throat under the adams apple. I was checked for thyroid disease and diagnosed by one doc, with globus hysterias, which is anxiety, causing a feeling of a lump in your throat. After cat scans which showed nothing and other tests, I finally went to a gastroenterologist. I have since had quite a few endoscopies and been diagnosed with GERD and Barretts Esophagus.
Now I have what feels like a canker sore on the right side of my throat at the base of my where my tongue hits when I swallow. I constantly feel pressure in the middle of my back and have recently started having heartburn terribly. I don't have wisdom teeth, but I have had a chronic sinus infection. I had my uvula removed almost 3 years ago. Any ideas?
The soreness is pretty much located right at the base of the neck on the top of my back. I dont have a lot of heartburn mostly just belching and acid reflux. I have had a little bit of trouble talking too. I suffer from anxiety and depression and wanted to know if those could be causes of this weird sensation? I recently quit smoking ciggarettes (1 Month STRONG!) after smoking pretty heavily for 2-3 years. I have smoked marijuana heavily the past 5-6 years and have quit that as well.
i feel the same way and reading about it from other pple only makes me more worried...
i took amoxicillan for 10 days and now everything is almost back to normal except my sore throat won't go away and my ears hurt also. Now, I developed what feels like a lump in the base of my throat. I don't have medical insurance so I can't even go to the doctor. I'm hoping it is related to post nasal drip or a viral infection that will go away. It scares me that I could stop breathing at night even though it only hurts when I swallow. Could this be something serious?

Today I have had a lump in my throat all day long that feels like a big piece of food at least a marble size or slightly bigger that is lodged in there. When I swallow, any the food or liquid seems to move around the lump to go down and it feels very uncomfortable. When the area is pressed on, there is alot of pressure. It is at the base of my throat where the thyroid is located.
I have had the sensation of having a pill stuck in the back of my throat towards the base of my tounge for about 3 years. It can come and go but is pretty persistent, although it can sometimes get extremely bad and feel like it is a hard object. I do not have pain, I can not find tonsiliths nor do I have halitosis. The ENT could not find anything and said it was GERD, even though I told him I do not and have never had acid reflux, at least not knowingly. GERD medication changed nothing.
I also have something going on in my throat that I swear is heart related. I feel a little flutter in the base of my throat and then a couple different things happen. I just had one happen about 5 minutes ago (which is why I am back on this site) and now it feels like I have an orange stuck in the bottom of my throat. I am now getting left arm pain (high on shoulder) with them as well but the throat feeling sticks around for a while, even after the arm pain subsides.
My throat is very tight and I feel a lump sensation, especially when swallowing, right below the adam's apple. It always feels like there is mucus in my throat and am constantly trying not to clear it (which is tough). BACKGROUND INFO/HOW IT HAPPENED Almost 4 weeks ago, after singing for a rehearsal, my throat felt a bit tight. The next morning I could tell that something was wrong as my voice seemed weaker and my throat seemed constricted or tight.

Hi, Cancers that involve the throat, base of the tongue, tonsil, or pharynx usually present with a sore throat that does not go away, cough, difficulty swallowing, weight loss, ear pain, blood-tinge sputum or a lump in the back of the mouth, throat or neck. Are there other symptoms present? You have an increased risk of developing throat cancer if you smoke tobacco and drink alcohol, chew betel quid, or being infected with human papillomavirus (HPV).
To answer your question, most swollen lymph nodes are due from infection and will go away on its own, however I would have the lump looked at by your doctor if it doesn't go away in a couple of weeks (just to be on the safe side). They may want to watch it for a while or try antibiotics. They may also want to draw blood and do a CBC. Good luck and I wish you well.
I have the same problem/injury myself, and the protruding clavicle bulbs at the base of the throat cause my shoulders to pull forward and round over. It's good that your problem isn't nearly as serious as mines; for prevention you probably want to work on proper upper body posture (maybe periodic use of shoulder supports/braces) and the appropriate strengthening exercises.
I have had a lump at the base of my neck in hairline for years. If I massage the area it would get smaller..so one doctor said it was not cancer since it gets smaller and sometimes goes away.I get a burning pain there and now I have one on the other side (left side) this has been going on for years. It is like a brain freeze pain that never goes a way.I am going to the doctors tomorrow so maybe I will find out more...
it was about 2 inches long and kind of bean shaped. At the base of it, it was softer but sore if i rubbed it and the top of it was harder but didn't hurt at all. It also was a little itchy. We had a big function at our church this weekend that we were very involved in so i couldn't get it checked out. Saturday it was maybe slightly worse and Sunday I thought the swelling was less. Now Monday morning it is definitely better and i would say the lump and swelling have been reduced by maybe 75%.
I have severe heartburn and have had a few 3-4 day bouts of vomiting. I have pain in my back at the base of the rib cage usually on the mid left side, but I have also had it on the right of center. I just got over a severe resp. infection that lasted 4 weeks. I am feel like the infection is coming back. I have a foul taste in my throat and have been coughing up small bits of yellow phlem. I am running a fever of 99.6 to 100 most days. I normally am on the low side of normal.
I have pain under my tongue where it's connected (started recently), pain/tightness - what feels like a super tight muscle knot/ball - at the back base of my jaw right below the ear, ear tube pain, ringing in my ears, more so on the right side, which also hurts more. Have a small (unmovable) lump on right side in mouth almost directly under bottom molars. Hasn't changed in size in the year since I noticed it, but a lot of the pain in my ears/throat is right around there.
I had a right-side-only throat discomfort in varying degrees for over a month that my ENT diagnosed as tonsiloliths a couple of weeks ago, but since then, the right-side only lump/pain sensation has become a lump in the middle of my throat and seems to be getting worse. In fact, the PAIN is no longer there, now it is only this globulous sensation, like a dead area in my throat.
First, I felt like I had a constant lump in my throat, an almost achy feeling at the base of my throat. Then I noticed a raspiness to my throat here and there. I'm noticing this raspiness every day now, mornings seem worse. I'm getting worried as to what could be going on in my throat. I'm assuming it's the GERD but I just don't know what to think. I know the doctor wanted me to schedule a colonoscopy but I'm more concerned about my throat so I'm going to ask for an endoscopy.
Then I started getting some tightness In the base of my neck/throat and around my Adam’s apple. I went to the doctor he examined my neck didn’t feel anything and he ordered a neck ultra sound and blood test I guess to check my thyroid. Both of those came back normal. Over the last 6 weeks I’ve been having some digestion problems… lose bowels movements… lots of gas ect…. (I am also prescribed 20 mg of Dexedrine).
There is a lot of pain at a localized spot at the middle left side of the hyoid even to touch it or tap it. No skin redness though. Another oddity is there is the same pain when I simply use muscular contraction to raise the hyoid bone and feels the same as when I swallow. There is similar pain while yawning and a little more so when I talk. There is no horseness, voice changes or generalized throat irritation whatsoever. Turning my head in some directions causes pain in that area.
Hello, I'm a 44 yr old women with no prior history of GI problems. About a month ago, I developed a constant sense of a lump in the throat- that can change from a sensation of having something "stuck" to a constricting sensation. Approx location, below at base of throat or down further, behind the bone. Can swallow, but food wants to stick. Occasional pain the sternum, hoarseness than has increased and every once in a while, referred pain to the jaw. ENT doc saw nothing.
