Avatar n tn Lack of progress and improvement becomes understandable when one considers that typical evaluation and treatment are directed at the symptoms. But with chronic knee pain, and many other pain syndromes, actual benefits may be obtained by addressing underlying biomechanical problems. Faulty biomechanics are at the root of many ongoing knee problems. Of course, various other diseases and orthopedic conditions may cause the same type of chronic pain.
Avatar m tn This knee pain can arise from the knee itself or referred from conditions affecting the hip, ankle or the lower back. MRI spine will reveal the cause whether it is a vertebral fracture, slipped intervertebral disc causing nerve impingement etc since these symptoms started with the back injury. You could take oral anti anxiety medicines like benzodiazepines under medical supervision. If it is difficult, an anesthesiologist could be requested for intravenous sedation or even general anesthesia.
Avatar n tn I am a marathoner, last time i ran 17 miles on a regular schedule for San francisco marathon before 2 weeks and realised pain on knee and back. I stop running whenever i have such issues. I went to Detroit and came back in a bus, next morning my back pain was sever then i took rest for a day. I took some pain killer and got back to work and run again but max i could run in last 2 weeks is 5 miles. I am having shoulder and lower neck pain still.
Avatar m tn About 5 weeks ago I was trying to do rapid-squats without any warm up (yes, stupid, I know), and got this really sharp pain in my right knee, kind of under the kneecap - in the muscle area of my right leg I've been trying to not run at all to aggravate it, and trying to keep it straight, but I'm still taking walks on it. The pain has gotten a lot better, and it's only painful when I squat, kneel or bend my legs (the least painful).
Avatar f tn I went from 230 to 258 in less than a year, partially due to my fasciitis and subsequent lack of running and exercise. Could my knee pain be coming from PF or weight gain? Or a combination thereof? My lower back pain, could that also be caused by the two? I'm 5'8 and otherwise healthy 25 yr old.
Avatar m tn i started to get a jolting sharp pain on my left knee i think coming from the knee cap or around the sides of the knee cap. it went away the next day but came back again few days later...... it seems to come when i just walk on the knee not every step but a certain pressure of my steps. Someone please help dancing is my Job and before i dish out money to a doctor i would like to try to understand what im dealing with. PLEASE HELP!
Avatar f tn My knee is stiff and painful today underneath the knee cap where the pes anserine tendon inserts and to the inside of the knee cap (medially). I also have pain in the middle of the back of the knee, is especially sharp if I push into it. In terms of comfort and daily activities, I am having no trouble walking except that my knee will get a little swollen (very slight) and stiff if I walk a lot.
Avatar n tn Ever since then, I have had a bad, achy pain in the right side of my knee on the joint line, especially when standing and I pick my foot up. The worst pain is when I rotate my toes outward with my knee bent. It occasionally hurts when decelerating, and definitely when going down stairs. I got an MRI today and am waiting the results, but does this sound like a tear? I know it's not large since the knee hasn't locked, but I do feel a small pop on that side of my knee when I straighten it.
Avatar m tn If the pain comes on bending the knee as in walking step or running downhill or down a flight of stairs, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome or runners knee. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained it in past), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint. All these aspects will have to be investigated by your doctor.
Avatar f tn Maybe someone can help me. For the past four months I have been experience really severe pain in my lower right leg. I have had shin splints before. I did the anti inflammatories, icing, rest, return to running slowly... etc. The pain persisted. The pain hurts when I run for longer than 5 minutes and hurts the duration of the run, and continues hurting the whole day. I had a bone scan and MRI done.
Avatar n tn I had a patella realignment procedure in April. My knee has healed great and is pain free. I'm back to doing all physical activity - except running. The knee feels excellent; however, I have alot of pain at the graft site on the tibia when I try to run. My three month follow up x-rays showed the bone was healing excellent, the screws were in place, and the grafted piece was in perfect alignment with my tibia. Is the bone pain normal, and is there anything I can do to speed the recovery?
378273 tn?1262097621 A beta blocker should lower your blood pressure and lower your heart rate. This will not prevent you HR from going up to running speed. I have run, several years ago, when using a beta blocker (Toprol XL) to help keep me in sinus. I have not tried to run when in AFib, so I look with interest on your experience independent of the Beta Blocker issue.
Avatar f tn Since the stellate ganglion block on 3/13, the most concentrated source of back pain has been sharp muscle spasms occurring sporadically along the lower spine and lower-right side of the spine. The rest of the pain has been sore, aching muscles on the left side. I have never had muscle spasms occur on the right of the spine in my back in the past; they have always stayed to the left and on the center of the lower spine.
1470596 tn?1286713970 I had this problem and realised thanks to my physio, that I overpronated when running. This can cause knee problems which is why I needed to buy shoes with arch support which stops the foot rolling inwards. For walking you can buy orthotic insoles but I would not recommend running with these. I use Adistar Salvations to run. A good running shop will check you for pronation before you buy. Also this might seem obvious but are you stretching before and after running.
2063301 tn?1343833074 And after about 2 months I developed a back and knee ache. My left knee hurts whenever I climb stairs or stand up from a sitting position but that pain is much more better than before. My back ache though, there's this pain in my lower back of the right side of my spine which is only there where I bend forwards, when I stand up from a sitting position, when I change my posture while sleeping and when I sneeze while standing up.
1773330 tn?1314171331 i ve been running on threadmill for 2 weeks..i ve got a knee pain...any solution to decrease the pain?
Avatar n tn This essentially means a softening of the cartilage of the knee cap. The anatomical sources of pain in this area is now considered to be from the richly innervated subchondral bone (bone below the articular cartilage), infrapatellar fat pad, or the medial and lateral retinaculum of the joint. “...certain mechanical conditions may predispose you to a mistracking knee cap. ” Cartilage does not have the same blood supply that bone does.
Avatar f tn I wish I could get my hands on you, I am good at nerve pain ,the pain running down your leg to your toe is the sciatic nerve it comes out the hip. Please let me know how you do. I know it don't sound fun but yoga is very good for this but one thing at a time,Good Luck and I know more things but This should hopefully help you.
Avatar f tn As I suspect there are multiple pathologies occuring that are causing your knee pain I would recommend firstly visiting a podiatrist (lower limb specialist) to diagnose the underlying pathologies and determine if conservative or surgical treatment is required. If you're ever up in Brisbane drop by the Kelvin Grove QUT Podiatry Clinic, $30 new patient consults.
Avatar n tn Just 2 days ago I performed a leg workout, and came home with a dull ache and stiffness in my left inner calf/ inner lower knee part as well, Not excruciating pain or anything, just a dull pain. The next day, different parts of my left calf, and hamstring have been twitching all day, when I am just sitting or laying. My right leg has also been a little bit too, but not near as much as my left leg.
Avatar f tn While I was pregnant I had problems with a nerve running from my lower back (left side) down my outter thigh, around my knee and down my calf! I just started walking 1-2 hours a day, three weeks ago and the pain is back again! It seems to only occur when I move certain ways.. or while lying down. I am on anti-depressants and was wondering if there was anything I could take to ease the pain... and should I stop exercising so much?? Anything? Thank youuu!
Avatar m tn ve been running with no knee pain. I run on the dirt/grass, where others run on the hard cement. Time after again they would get knee injuries. I quit running in races because I could feel the difference in the hard surface on my legs running verus the dirt/grass. If it was me, since I love running, I would stay off the hard cement. Our joints aren't made for that hard pounding.
Avatar m tn I just had miniscus repair surgery 9 days ago and surgeon said my knee showed a whole lot of wear and tear as well. I think the surgery took and I was getting better until 2 days ago. From my knee down is swollen and red and painful. I went in to see my surgeon yesterday and he sent me directly to get an ultra sound which was negative for blood clots. I was more active on the day it starting swelling but my doc said to keep walking on it.
