1415174 tn?1453243103 Yes I agree that it is amazing that most people complain about getting many health problems but don't think it could be related to diet. I have been on a very low fat, whole plant based diet for the last 2 years. This is after much reading and now I can't go back to eating the fatty western diet. I don't even care for it. It is interesting how the taste buds change fairly quickly even after a long time of having a bad diet.
Avatar m tn Nutrition is a very important component for good health, and an improper diet can cause CAD and heart problems in the long term. You may want to consult with your doctor to bring your physical conditioning to an acceptable level with a diet and exercise protocol. I don't know the significance of the ulcer for your low BMI, but that may need an intervention as well.
Avatar m tn The vet detected he had a heart murmmur as well. His levels seem to be really low protien. Hes on a low protein diet. He's losing it through urine he believes. The vet told me he would not live long, however my dog shows no symptoms. No bowel problems. He is a happy playful dog. He had one episode last year where he retained fluid in his belly but after some meds it went down. What am i really looking at here as far as his future?
Avatar n tn A little while ago i had a nondiabetic doctor recommend a low carbohydrate diet to help keep my blood sugars low and when i mentioned it to my endocrinologist she said that that type of diet puts extra strain on the kidneys and since diabetics are already prone to kidney problems they should avoit it. i would recommend that at your next doctor appointment you ask to be referred to a dietician to go over the proper diet aspects for a diabetic.
973741 tn?1342342773 Basically, it looks like a basic diet that everyone agrees is the best way to eat. I can see a couple of things to watch out for -- it relies a lot on dairy, and the vast majority of humans don't have the ability to digest it so that could be a problem, but you can avoid it by just avoiding most of the dairy. It also is a very low fat diet, including the "good" fats, so that could also be a problem.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar f tn s nearly impossible with 2000 mg of sodium limit daily. I hit the protein shake w/ chick pea n hemp protein. The whey protein made me tired. Too much bad protein can bring on HE. You'll find your balance where you can feel good. Lots of protein bars and dry cereals have high protein and I consume a lot of those!
Avatar f tn I am wondering if my intake of protein is too low. I have always had normal to oily hair and it has suddenly become dry and frizzy. Has anyone else experienced this symptom after reducing meat intake?
Avatar n tn I suffer from high "protein in urine" or high creatinine levels, now it's 2.4, but it was higher. I reccommend you read Dr. Walser's book on a low-protein, low-phoshorus diet to avoid dialysis. Your kidney doctor will probably tell you to go on a low-protein diet, but won't give you specifics. Dr. Walser's book explains the diet. It's rather hard diet to stick with, but beats the alternative.
Avatar n tn t say what you mean by a low carb diet. I assume you mean a high protein diet, but those diets have very little clinical evidence behind them -- for most of history the only people who ate a high protein diet were those who settled in places where plant food didn't grow. They got used to it but didn't live very long, either. When they were conquered, though, and fed a lot of grains, many got diabetes.
Avatar m tn When your stomach acid is low, you are not able to digest protein. ◦Improper digestion of protein creates toxins in your intestines that can set the stage for illness and disease. ◦Improper digestion of protein also creates acidic blood, since protein is by nature acidic. 2.You become mineral deficient. As your blood becomes more acidic, it will look for minerals from anywhere in your body, in order to get your blood to its more ideal alkaline state.
Avatar f tn He is very health, has been lifting weights for the past year, healthy diet, weighs 185LB and has no medical problems beside this issue, and has no complaints. He keeps himself well hydrated and has no problem urinating and or blood in his urine. He is scheduled for a ultrasound of his kidney next week. Blood work has been taken to check for lupus. I'm worried it may be lupus, what else can cause the abnormal levels?? please help.
Avatar n tn When determining how much calories you need use the mifflin st jeor equation which is considered the most accurate then from here you calculate your macros. Meaning what percentage will your diet be fat, protein, and carbs. A good diet for the prevention and management of DMT2 is the Mediterranean diet. This diet is 50% carbs and then you can play around with your fat and protein intake giving one 20% and/ or one 30%. Your macros have to equal 100%.
Avatar n tn I'm a 21 year old female. I'm in good shape (5'7; 120lbs) and am fairly healthy. I have no health problems besides a slightly higher than normal heart rate (100-115bmp) which my cardiologist describes as adequate for me. I recently had blood work done. My GFR was around 58 and my BP was 142/84 (usually 110/76). I've been a vegetarian for about 3 1/2 years now and feel like my diet is better than most.
Avatar n tn Low carb diets have been shown to be unhealthy long-term. Veggies are all carbs. Fruits are carbs. Complex carbs such as whole grains are the best source of long-term energy. Too much protein, especially animal protein, can cause kidney problems and is linked to a higher rate of cardiovascular disease.

Avatar n tn The vet said to place him on a strict starch diet with no protein. My problems is, is that he is very hungry. He will eat bread and crackles but still acts very hungry. I felt sorry for him and fed him a little chicken this morning because he acts like he is starving. Should I keep him strictly on the starchy diet at his age and let him be hungry or let him get full if even on chicken?
Avatar n tn In gallbladder disease, low-fat diet is recommended to avoid cramping attacks. In gastritis, low protein diet helps that stomach empties quickly. So you may try to avoid concentrated fat, like cream, chocolate, and concentrated protein/fat foods like red meat or eggs.
Avatar f tn I am a new mom, I delivered my baby 4 months ago, I want to go on a diet but I am afraid thst will affect my baby because I am breast feeding her
Avatar n tn Separately, I was wondering why I suffered so many headaches and not making the connection. I find that a high protein diet, lots of small snack work well with both the PCOS and the low blood sugar.... Anyway what ever happened with you?
Avatar n tn This is a process of your body creating sugar from the protein you ingest. It happens when you eat very high protein with little fat and low carb. Try to not go over 1 gram protein per pound of lean body mass. For example, a person who weighs 150 lbs should limit to 150 grams protein per day. Also do not shy away from healthy fats, like olive oil, avocado, grass fed butter, nuts, full fat yogurt, etc.
6403373 tn?1381003248 Along with veggies, opt for lean protein, such as that from low/no fat dairy, meat, eggs, beans, etc. Opt for whole grains, rather than refined grains. Avoid as much processed food as possible.
Avatar m tn Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet and a moderate fat diet means = using polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar n tn What are some great quick and easy meals for breakfast lunch and dinner that are super low carb... I am a type one diabetic and because of the medicine im on its hard to loose weight... But this has worked in the past and I am bored of eating the same meals over and over ... Thank you !
Avatar n tn t warn people about this as much as they do. That being said, a low carb diet might mean you are eating way too much protein, or it could mean you just eat somewhat more protein. Eating too much protein can cause kidney problems. Statins, as far as I know and I'm not an expert, are more of a problem for the liver and the joints.
Avatar n tn So? Most humans live mostly on carbs. The healthiest societies eat little meat. Bodybuilders are the unhealthiest eaters around, though they do get big muscles, because they eat too much protein, causing later in life kidney and liver problems. The healthiest foods are carbs, meaning dark green leafy vegetables. There are people who do best on high protein diets, such as plains Indians and Inuits; give them grains and they get what they have now, which are high rates of diabetes.
