Avatar f tn Why would you be given estrogen with elevated estrogen? My reasons for weight gain/difficulty losing weight were severe insulin resistance and untreated hypothyroidism. My hip to waist ratio was 0.96 due to insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn The odd thing is my symptoms with my breast are worse the week OF my period and the week AFTER (not before). What I am wondering, is could the weight loss have affected my thyroid which in turn is affecting my breast and cycle? If this is the case is it more likely that I am having estrogen highs or progesterone lows? I can always get tested for my thyroid and estrogen, I'm just wondering if losing weight could affect the thyroid AND in turn affect progesterone and/or estrogen?
Avatar f tn High levels of estrogen cause unexplained weight gain and feeling fatigued or lethargic. Low thyroid hormone is a consideration since there is family history of thyroid disease but high estrogen is a more likely cause in my opinion. A good article on high estrogen is "High Estrogen Overload Symptoms. Dangers Every Woman Should Be Aware Of" from the Healthy You Naturally website. An excerpt....
Avatar f tn Most women (including myself) who have hysterectomies have trouble with weight gain rather than weight loss. You will want a full work up to be sure you aren't anemic and don't have any other condition causing your weight loss.
Avatar f tn Low estrogen levels are not an issue in women who are young and not trying for a pregnancy. Sudden weight loss can also lead to hormonal changes. Pills themselves alter the hormonal profile. Fertility in later life need not be affected. PCOS if any is easily detected on ultrasound scan and hormonal assay. You may consult a gynaecologist and an endocrinologist. Take care.
Avatar f tn I have been really fatigue, short of breath and having heart palps. I had started using some Bio Identical Estrogen (BiEst) at a very low dose but I really do not feel great. Have a lot of hot flashes and overall do not feel good. Does anyone have any input regarding BiEst and my symptoms. Is not having estrogen bad? They tell me it is.
Avatar n tn Last year, I was on the birth control pill (Marvelon 21) to regulate my periods which I had a lack of due to low estrogen levels because of, mainly, being overweight. I have not been on the pill since July 2007. I am just wondering, is it possible to become pregnant if I have not had my period for the past 4 to 5 months? Also, will I have difficulty in the future to get pregnant having such irregular menstrual cycles and taking the birth control pill so excessively?
Avatar n tn As we exercise we build lean body muscle mass which weight more than fat so the scale reflects no weight loss when in fact the body is trimming down fat. The tape measure will measure loss of inches and your clothes will start to feel looser. Hope this helped you.
Avatar n tn I had a radical hysterectomy done 9 years ago. Since that time I have gained weight that I cannot lose, my cholesteral level has risen to a danger zone and now take medication also B12 injections. I suffer from fatigue, memory loss, cold sensitivety and other problems. I recently had a FSH test done and was told the levels indicate I am still producing estrogen.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Topomax 50mg a day (25 morning and 25 night) since January 20th, for weight loss. I've lost 50 lbs. Two months ago , my doctor put me on an ultra low dose birth control pill, for continuous birth control, to prevent pregnancy, as Im having a "date" in august, and because I have heavy periods. I understand that Topomax can decrease the effectiveness of the birth control pill.
Avatar f tn My estrogen was very low - I finally went to an endocrinologist today and I feel like still no answers? she wants to put me on a low dosage of estrogen patch and wellbuterin? then she checked my neck and felt some inflammation, she did a sonogram which confirmed a slight enlargement of the left lobe. They are now testing for thyroid anitbodies which I had to ask them to do.
Avatar m tn i've read that low testosterone diminishes your sex drive. is this true? i am a 50yr old male...... i'm having trouble getting and maintaining an erection, BUT i am always ready for sex..very horny all the time... i know there are other reasons for my ed, but can low testosterone be one of the reasons, even though i am always in the mood???
Avatar f tn Higher doses of estrogen in birth control pills is known to cause weight gain in women due to fluid retention. Get your estrogen levels checked. For weight loss, apart from diet control, indulge in physical exercise daily for which you can even join a gym. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn It's not your fault, it's due to a low amount of estrogen. Perhaps you should try watching some porn (don't act like you haven't done it before) sometimes all you need is a little visual stimulation. If that's not working then perhaps talk to the gyno about it. I was having issues with low libido as well and it turns out my body wasn't producing enough estrogen so now I take estrogen supplements on top of birth control and my sex drive is back.
Avatar f tn Estrogen deficiency is what occurs from loss of an ovary. And depression is common from premature estrogen deficiency. This study talks about it (copy and paste into your web browswer) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6196781/ Depression is treatable though. Your doctor could visit the idea of hormone replacement. But probably a better idea is treatment for depression that could be short term. An SSRI can be very beneficial at times like this.
Avatar n tn oral contraceptive can affect weight. Also, once you've lost 10-15% of your body weight, weight loss typically plateaus and it is more difficult to continue losing.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, hysterectomy can really mess with the endocrine system. And there is a 40% chance of ovarian failure due to the loss of blood flow as well as loss of the feedback loop with the uterus. However, women are seldom told these facts. Your TSH result would seem to indicate hyperthyroidism but not sure about the T4. Is that total T4 or free T4 and what is the lab range shown on your results?
Avatar m tn When I workout I mainly lift weights so I expect that I should gain weight rather than loose it right? The weight loss has been pretty drastic. A couple of months ago I was about 240ish pounds. Then I dropped down to 225 pounds. At that time I wasnt really eating, as I didnt have an appetite. Then, I was making my self eat. I would eat a lot as well. My weight would go up to about 227 pounds then go right back to 225. I went to the doctor because of this and he tested me for diabetes.
Avatar n tn Other possibilities are chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, poor sleep patterns, inadequate sleep, low Vit b12, low iron, low calcium, sodium and potassium. Hyperthyroidism too causes increased sweating and tiredness. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
