Low dose accutane for mild acne

Common Questions and Answers about Low dose accutane for mild acne

accutane

Avatar n tn I expressed my concern to my doctor, but she said that she felt that 40 mg was actually a low/moderate dose for my size, and that 60-80 mg would be normal for my size. This doesn't seem consistent with the information I've read. She said she didn't want to go too low because she didn't want me to have to take Accutane longer than 6 months.
Avatar n tn I am not a doctor but I did work as a pharmacy tech for 4 years, and personally it scared the heck out of me all the warning labels we had to put on Accutane. If you only have mild acne I'm surprised your doctor would prescribe this medication unless it really bothers you and you have exhausted all other avenues. For a lot of people acne, especially just mild acne, is just part of life. Good luck to you whatever you choose!
Avatar m tn Antibiotics and other topical have not worked well enough and the dermatologist is recommending that I go on accutane. I have an app. about it in several weeks. My father had severe acne until he took accutane for 3 months at a high dose without recieving any negative side effects, which cleared up 90 percent of the acne. My mother didnt have acne. I am ready to go on accutane, but the thing is that I do submission wrestling.
Avatar n tn i)The patient has not taken Accutane at a high enough dose, or not taken it for long enough. The recommended dose is 0.5 to 1mg X kg patients bodyweight per day for 16 to 24 weeks. ii)The patient is female and has an underlying hormonal imbalance which is causing the acne such as PCOS. Females are more likely to relapse than males. iii)The patient is using an oral or topical drug which induces acne such as the progestogen-only pill or steroids. Eloise.
Avatar m tn m still unfazed about what accutane can do to my bones. There is a very minimal amount of research done on low dose accutane and it's side effects including that on epiphyseal plate available on the net. I guess it's a relatively novel thing?
Avatar n tn Hi i started taking accutane 10mg which is a low dose accutane i have completed 1 month course but i m just 15 years old and not completed my skeletal growth is my growth plate fused plz tell me how much time does low accutane take to stop height growth??
1155893 tn?1263018015 Well Ive now been on accutane for 5 months and I keep breaking out. I said in one of my earlier posts that my face was clearing up but now I broke out again and its back to being crap. Im suppose to be on accutane for 7 months (two months left to go). When I first started taking the medication my doc said it be gone by 3 months, max. But now 5 months later... its still not gone and on top of that I have these dark marks that the acne has left behind.
Avatar f tn My daughter has been on Accutane for 2 months. While her acne is mild, we put her on this due to my hx of cystic acne at age 22 which was completely responsive to accutane. My question is , she has not seen much change . She is still breaking out, and states zits are larger than in past, but do reslve more quickly She was on accutane once in past with immediate response in first month. Dr just increased dosage. What can we expect in terms of response?
Avatar n tn They grow back very slowly, by which time the patient has nearly always outgrown their tendency for acne. Accutane can also affect hair, lips, eyes, nose and vagina. Skin can be fragile for up to 6 months after finishing Accutane. However, it is very unusual to still be experiencing vaginal dryness after a year. Have you changed anything else, method of birth control for example? Using a fruit-flavored lubricant will make it feel more sexy and less clinical than using something like KY Jelly.
Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Avatar m tn Once again the doctor has orderd me to stop taking the accutane for a week and has lowered my dose to 40mgs a day once the infection has passed to try and get rid of these sides . I am at odds end about what to do because I am afraid about having long term, permanent eye problems and other side effects from this drug. I have a few questions: Is it normal to still be breaking out at the beginning of month 5 on accutane?
Avatar f tn She is currently on Bactrim and due to go back to Dermatologist tomorrow with suggestion of starting Accutane. She woke up with this acne in mid-December and began taking Vyvanse a few weeks before. Could there be any correlation? I don't want to jump into Accutane if Vyvanse could be causing it but she is so self-conscious.
Avatar m tn In my experience, that is extremely rare. It makes me wonder whether thhis drug was given at the right dose for a long enough time. Or perhaps the acne is indeed better but isn't entirely perfect, in which case you and your daughter may need to recalibrate your expectations. Maybe treatments with oral and external antibiotics should be considered, since these may help in ways they didn't before Accutane was given.
Avatar n tn Anyone here get their Crohn's after taking Accutane for acne ? Apparently an association has been found and some lawsuits are being successful. I got my first symptoms about two months after finishing the drug cycle. Just curious if anyone else experienced this with Accutane ?
Avatar f tn Hello, Treatment for such acne like bumps includes topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, hormonal therapy, dermabrasion , phototherapy and laser resurfacing. Normally a combination of treatments is followed and if nothing proves effective then dermabrasion and laser therapy are useful. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist. Till then follow the treatment that has been prescribed to you and use Accutane only under medical guidance.
Avatar m tn Nothing is to be done except for washing your face with a mild soap like Dove or Cetaphil and applying a non perfumed mild hypoallergenic moisturizer. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I have had persistent but fairly mild acne since I was 18 (almost 11 years now). Last year I gave in and went onto accutane for 8 months which transformed my skin from oily with constant but mild cystic acne (usually on my chin) to zero spots and just a slight oiliness. However, since lockdown I’ve noticed my skin has changed again on my chin. The pores on my chin and sometimes a few around my nose are constantly clogged and bumpy.
Avatar n tn A year or so later, I used accutane, but only for 3 months or so. The accutane reduced the cysts but made my skin very dry, particularly on my forehead and lips. I stopped using accutane due to the side effects and basically gave up on my skin. For the next two years my forehead continued to have very dry, dead looking skin on it and my skin had moderate-severe acne.
Avatar n tn I tend to believe that I had lupus before taking it, but simply had no symptoms beyond mild fatigue, and that the Accutane acted as a catalyst for even worse symptoms. I would say that most joint pain caused by the Accutane is probably from it aggravating some preexisting condition. I suppose it could be possible that Accutane itself does something to your body, perhaps ruins your joints even if you're completely healthy to start with, but I've yet to find research regarding this.
