Avatar f tn Has anyone had any luck on the Slim-Fast diet? I just started it, I need to lose around 30lbs.
Avatar f tn Is it ok to drink slim fast while pregnant? I have gained too much weight so far. I started out tiny and now my mid section is huge! I'm not looking to lose weight but eating hurts. My lower back is in excruciating pain and I know it's from the weight gain and due to my belly sticking so far out. I'm only 25 weeks pregnant and I feel the only option is to eat tiny meals to keep up my energy because after I eat my stomach feels so tight b it just hurts.
Avatar f tn Hi there im on a diet and was wondering what kind of fruits would be low carb or any kinda low carb snacks for in between meals or at lunch time ?
Tbd Hi, depending how long you have had diabetes, and your overall condition, losing weight and changing your diet to a strict low carb diet / keto diet, could possibly put your diabetes into remission or at worst make it very much easier to manage. The principle of low carb diet is restricting carbs, particularly all grains, sugars, starchy veges and sweet fruits, and eating a diet that focusses more on protein, low carb plant foods (veges and non-sweet fruits), some nuts, and healthy fats.
Avatar f tn hi has any one done the slim fast diet----(milkshakes) and lost weight. How lond could u go on for? I'm planning to go on it but will do only one shake for dinner and have breakfast and lunch as normal.
1407457 tn?1281317353 s why most of us have weight issues. Low carb diets are way HARD to follow. I mean some only allow you 30 carbs a day...which is nothing! And very hard for somebody to live like that. I follow my diet/weight on a site called (without all the spaces) www.m y f i t n e s s p a l.com and I love it! It totals all the amounts of calories, fats, carbs, sugars and almost anything else. Here are a few tips that I picked up while I was at my lowest weight (271 with a weight loss of 62lbs!
Avatar f tn Welcome to the community. Try walking at a reasonable pace. Also look into yoga as it's low impact and done at a slow very deliberate pace. Be sure to watch what you eat as well - might also help the e-coli infection.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, it would be really difficult to do that, what with everyone having different restrictions (low sodium, low carb, low sugar, sugar free, lactose intolerance, gluten free, etc.), allergies, taste preferences, cooking skills, and the like. Perhaps visiting with a nutritionist would benefit you, so your diet can be personally tailored to you and your needs. I'm sorry we can't be of more service.
Avatar n tn The thing about fasting is to force your body to burn fat during the fasting period, however, if you are someone who eats high carb and high protein and low fat, intermittent fasting is too strong a switch. During fasting, you should burn fat, and to do this, insulin levels must be low. If during your fasting window you have high insulin circulating in your body, you will not be able to burn fat AND your blood sugar will go so low that you will feel fatigued and lethargic.

Avatar f tn Yes there is a relation between insulin dose and carbs, the relation is between fast acting insulin and carbs NOT Levemir and carbs. eating carbs will raise BG in a short time IE 3 or 4 hours. and will stay high untill your body makes enough insulin or you inject FAST insulin. Taking levemir to counter eating will result in dangerously low BG (Hypoglycemia)! Insulin use is difficult to explain, you need to talk to an MD that knows how to administer Basal/Bolus insulin therapy.
Avatar n tn Hi, I would change my diet to a low carb diet. A lot of news has been coming out about low carb and I am doing low carb. It has really helped me keep my BG down to an acceptable leval. You might try researching the Dr. Bernstein diet for diabetics. It really works and does not affect a person in any bad way. You also do not have to starve yourself on this diet. I eat between 2000 up to 3000 calories a day but those calories are coming from low carb food.
Avatar m tn Lots of opinions ("professional" and other) re diet/nutrition. What is working for me now, is a "South Beach/Zone" type of diet which is basically lean meat/fish and vegetables. Almost no starch (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc) and very little fruit -- maybe one portion three times a week. With this diet -- and copious amounts of exercise -- Ive lost ten pounds, brought my cholesterol down from 200 to 150 and normalized my bp from pre-hypertensive.
Avatar n tn Or is there other things that you do? I noticed I can only put if my carb is low , medium or high and it fills the plate but I'm not sure what is considered low , etc...
Avatar f tn It is recommended that people with MS consume a low-fat/ high fiber diet as the same as the general public. There have been 'diets' that claim to help MS, however, they have not been under strict controlled studies for effectiveness. Generally a healthy diet is recommending lowering your sugar and sodium consummation with a low fat/ high fiber intake.
Avatar m tn Still a great addition to a low carb lifestyle for sure.
Avatar f tn Eating low carb diet will also help in stabilising, not messing up, your blood sugars.
Avatar m tn No sugar added ice cream means no sugar added to the existing sugar which is pretty high in the first place. Read all nutrition labels carefully. Carb sugars are listed in grams, a cooking measure. Every 7 grams equals one HEAPING Tablespoon of sugar. As far your doctor is he/she an Endocrinologist, a doctor who trained and specializes with the endocrine system, one being diabetes treatment and management? If not, get a referral to one and also to diabetes nutritionist and/or dietitian.
Avatar f tn I have eaten a high carb diet for years based on my exercise level and do have a sweet tooth, but I always exercised so much I never thought much about it. I rarely eat out, don’t eat fast food, and don’t drink alcohol. I’m 5’4” and 117 so even though I’ve been injured and not running for many months now, I’ve stayed biking and have watched what I eat. Can a high carb diet alone elevate triglycerides? I really don’t know what to change here!
Avatar n tn I have low LDL, high HDL, low triglycerides, and a good ratio. I'm 58, slim and exercise. Yet, my blood work got flagged for high cholesterol. I eat low carb, but definitely not keto. How can my cholesterol be high?
973741 tn?1342342773 The gastric problems in some marathoners get bad and that's what led e.g. Tim Olson to switch to low carb, the main idea being that when you use bodyfat for fuel you don't have to take in carb fuel right before or during running. Even lean people have many tens of thousands of spare calories stored as fat. Liver glycogen might be less than 5 thousand cal. But he also uses carbs during a race because of going faster than when training.
Avatar m tn I would still focus on keeping it fairly low carb. And make sure you are eating high nutrition foods and quality protein. Stay away from high fructose corn syrup foods (check labels) and heavily processed foods. Hope this gives you some food for thought.
