7552771 tn?1469929649 Platelets are what helps clot your blood, they all group together. Low platelets puts you at an increased risk for bleeding, but high platelets put you at an increased risk for excess clotting, such as DVTs...
Avatar f tn He wanted to prescribe me a low dose of Synthoid - 75mcg but I am very concerned about this. I called back with a million questions because I don't really understand what's wrong with my thyroid and the nurse told me that it was "normal" but on the low side of normal and he just wanted to fine tune my system. I don't want to take more medicine with what I'm already taking especially medicine that could have lots of side effects.
Avatar n tn RE had me start Lovenox after 2nd beta (I have been on baby aspirin and am continuing). My question is, with a low-med positive is Lovenox indicated. RE says he is being extra cautious, which I respect. But, could it cause any problem with the baby or pregnancy if it is NOT needed. Also, could the elevated ACL have anything to do with my infertility? Thank you in advance.
Avatar m tn I do have to admit, I had a tough time with the very first shot. As you know, you drop coumadin and start Lovenox (which is a lower molecular weight heparin). My first kit came with a book and a DVD telling my excaty what to do. I just piched up my belly just to the side of my belly button and pushed in the needle. Remember to switch sides with each injection. After the first injection, it is much easier to do. The shots do not hurt. The needles are very small in diameter.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your answer. My cardiologist mentioned stopping the warfariin and going with lovenox for 3 days prior to a cathererization but said there was no need for plavix to be stopped.
Avatar f tn She would need to discuss that with her doctor. When low platelets occur during HCV treatment there are no medicines available at this point to increase the count. I have heard some mention trial drugs but that should never be a consideration during pregnancy. Of course, they could always tranfuse her if she became too critical.
Avatar n tn Plan to have c-section at 37 weeks due previous t incision of uterus and post op PE, also on Lovenox 40mg SQ daily. I am very concerned if I should stop taking atenolol.
Avatar f tn Hi, having trouble typing but would suggest with platelets that low I would ask if they could monitor you weekly. Just my humble opinion I have just asked for a retest as my hgb has gone from 14.8 to 9.9 Doc says since I have finished Incivek that it should rise and stabilize. I asked if we could please check once a week instead of every 4 weeks.
7510956 tn?1411671417 A platelet count of 115,000 is not very low for someone with cirrhosis. 150,000 is the common low end of the lab range. Commonly class A, compensated cirrhotics with portal hypertension have platelet counts in the 50,000 - 80,000 range. Many of us have lived many years with platelet counts half of your current platelet count. It is only when the platelet count is below 20,000 that it can become dangerous although different doctors have different comfort ranges.
2025701 tn?1328919633 Do you have cirrhosis? People with cirrhosis start out with a lower platelet count than others with less liver damage. Usually less than 125,000 and many times less then 100,000 platelets. Only people with cirrhosis or other platelet issues need to worry about platelets dropping dangerously low. 20,000 or less. Interferon causes all treating persons platelets to drop to some degree. Obviously the more platelets you start with before treatment, the higher the platelet count will stay.
Avatar f tn the post from nannyleenie about low platelets is actually myself, redeemed 1,i must have posted under nannyleenies screen name, she is my wife.my first time on tx 2 years ago,rbc went down so i needed to take procrit,i dont believe i had an emergency situation with my platlets,as i finished 48 wks of tx.im taking double shot of peg until und.,so maybe that is kicking down the platelets.they went from wk. 1 at 72,to 7o at wk. 2,to 80 at wk. 3 to 60 at last labs at wk.4.
2030686 tn?1351688548 For example, amoxicillin can lead to anemia (low red blood cells), thrombocytopenia (low platelets) and leukopenia (low white blood cells). Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen. White blood cells help fight infection and platelets help in wound healing. Anemia leads to fatigue and shortness of breath. Leukopenia makes you susceptible to infections and thrombocytopenia makes you prone to easy bruising and bleeding. http://www.livestrong.
Avatar f tn My best friend had low platelets with her last baby. She had to be induced because it was a planned induction with no pain meds. She wasn't allowed to get an epidural due to her low platelets. She did a great job going natural. She's pregnant again with her 5th child and due in August and I don't think her platelets are low this time.
Avatar f tn Anyone, not just people with cirrhosis, can have platelets drop from treatment. However, people with cirrhosis usually start out with lower platelets so they don't have as far to fall. Most people even out before the platelets get to 20,000. Yours are still in a great range. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Avatar f tn post-treatment? really don't know what you are talking about, I only know you have low platelets, however, platelets can go up and down depending on the time of day, I hope this answers your question.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else had low platelets during pregnancy? I did w my first, had to see a hematologist, get my blood drawn all the time and ended up not being able to get an epidural. Now I'm pregnant w my second and its happening again..am I the only one?
Avatar f tn I believe I’ve read that other steps have to be taken first for it to be prescribed. How low are your platelets? Does this condition prevent you from HCV treatment? If so, have you discussed the possibility of splenectomy? I believe that often raises platelets enough to qualify for HCV treatment, but I’d consider all other options first, obviously. http://www.drugs.com/promacta.
Avatar f tn A week before I started Chemo I was in the hospital and diagnosed with Thrombocytepenia. My platelets dropped to 3,000. I did not respond to platelet therapy but did respond to IVIG. My last chemo was in 02/2008. My platelets are still giving me trouble. I have an IVIG treatment every 2-3 weeks. How long can this last? I usually get flu symptoms 3 days post IVIG. It is hard to take care of my children and work a full time job. I am always so drained and tired.
Avatar f tn How low can we go? My platelets are 131,000. About 9000 below the beginning of the norm. It can be scary all these abnormal blood cell counts. My ANC is staying the same at 1.2 so I am thankful for that. Only 5 weeks to go. By the way I am using tea tree oil and it seems to be fading the awful scars I have from the rash. Give it a try if scars are a problem.
Avatar m tn In other words, how low would a doctor allow those levels to get before giving the person platelets or whole blood? Thank you.
Avatar n tn The information you have provided are not enough to form any opinion from. If your platelet count is 80 and your prothrombin time is 14 this could be an indication of cirrhosis of the liver. Looking at two blood values is not enough to make an educated guess on anyone's health condition and doesn't explain why the doctor won't treat you. Others with similar levels have been treated. So there must be more to the story than you are presenting in your post.
