Lovenox vs heparin during pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox vs heparin during pregnancy

lovenox

1414636 tn?1288284680 I've used lovenox with my last pregnancy and with this pregnancy due to a blood clotting disorder. Lovenox is perfectly safe. does not cross the placenta but thins the blood just enough and very evenly to prevent blood clots. there are no side effects except maybe I bruised slightly easier.
Avatar f tn Warfarin is NOT to be taken when pregnant because it will effect the baby so Lovenox/ heparin shots are often prescribed seeing as it is faster acting and won't reach the baby. I've also had surgery to place a little screen in my body to hopefully catch any blood clots from moving elsewhere in my body to my heart. Now that I'm pregnant I've been on Lovenox shots since week 12ish and I take a baby asprin with it to hopefully prevent any blood clots from forming.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Went today for my 31 week appt and my ob had mentioned that we switch from lovenox to heparin at about 36 weeks. I'm on lovenox for factor 5 with history of a blood clot. She also then recommended induction at 39 weeks.... the heparin would be a good idea if an epidural was needed/wanted but it's more cost and twice a day rather than once. I'm really focused on a natural delivery but understand that plans can change suddenly.
593530 tn?1263847957 Is anyone taking Lovenox or Heparin injections during pregnancy? Or have you taken either for prior pregnancies? I'm just really nervous about the fact that my doctor told me in order to get an epidural the drug will have had to be out of my system for about 12 hours. He acted like it was pretty common and no big deal, but I'm just worried. If there is too much of the drug in my system it could cause a blood clot causing permanent paralysis! I'm just a little freaked out.
Avatar n tn I am on Lovenox (Xaparin) since early in my pregnancy. Now my doctor wants to perform a c-section at week 37 without giving me much of a medical explanation. I feel strongly about a natural delivery. Does any one had a similar experience?
330481 tn?1309488243 I only have one gene positive and also will be on heparin during pregnancy. I had the third IVF last year and was taking the heparin but m/c. So i don't know if that gene it has to do anything with the m/c. Every doctor is different in the opinion for the MTHFR.
Avatar n tn I am scared of this happening again so this time I am wanting to have Clexane injections during the pregnancy to prevent. Does anyone know at what stage of pregnancy I am likely to start these injections?
1524811 tn?1333241301 I was recently diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism after being rushed into L&D unable to breathe. I was prescribed Lovenox by injection twice daily. The prescribing DR knows I'm now 34 weeks pregnant, but when I read the drug disclosure inside the box it states clearly NOT TO BE USED DURING PREGNANCY, CAN CAUSE GASPING SYNDROME & FETAL DEATH.
1299014 tn?1273247877 I had two spontaneous pregnancies, four insemination and one in vitro fertilization ( 2 embryos) ,all ended with miscarriage as early as 5 weeks (8 weeks at most). In my eighth pregnancy (miscarried two weeks ago) I had heparin shots twice a day ( clexane 0.2 -2000UI anti-Xa) plus baby aspirin and I lost the fetus in 5 weeks. Was it the appropriate dose or it must be reconsidered? I am 1.63 m high and weigh 60 kg if it is calculated according to weight!
Avatar f tn My doc, will switch me to heparin when I get to 7 months. I guess heparin is easier to control with bleeding. Lovenox I guess has a harder time being reversed. Ewww. So scary. I'm so terrified that I will hemorrhage during my csection. Thank you for making me feel not so alone. ♡♡ good luck and how far along are you?
598654 tn?1330217159 d get a second opinion on having to take coumadin for the rest of your life and maybe even a 3rd. The Lovenox and heparin do not cross into the placenta to the baby but coumadin does. I really hope you find this helpful. I've had a long 2 pregnancies, therefore chose not to have more children, but having the Factor 5, you can still definately have perfectly happy healthy children.
Avatar f tn I was also on low dose aspirin during my pregnancy, am 3 weeks pp now with a perfectly healthy girl.
645220 tn?1233764146 I am not an OB nurse and I am curious why your are taking lovenox during your pregnancy, do you have a previous clotting issue with your pregnancies? I am just asking because I am wondering if i am going to have to be on lovenox because of my clotting history when i become pregnant?
Avatar n tn HI, I can't speak to the overarching issue...that is something for a doc to discuss w/ you certainly. However, I had a very large DVT that stretched from my groin to my knee in my last pregnancy (he's 6.5 now) and am pregnant again. You won't likely be on Coumadin during pregnancy (I'm guessing) but they'll switch you to Heparin or Lovenox (I'm on Lovenox).
317019 tn?1532965586 i had the choice of heparin or lovenox and chose heparin because it can be reversed (if needed)...i used heparin with my last preg and even though my daughter came at 32 weeks it was not my blood clotting disease that caused that my next u/s is on thurs and i cant wait to see my babies and make sure they are still separated and growing as they should be im 11 weeks now and so far things have been by the book....
Avatar f tn It's called heparin. Lovenox does not have a medicine to counter block. Basically you will be given a medicine to stop you from bleeding out.
585875 tn?1323654505 Hi Ingy! I won't be on heparin, but on lovenox (also a blood thinner), since I have Factor V. I think my RE wants me to start after retrieval...but not 100% sure.
Avatar f tn Okay so I am 37+4 and I have been on Heparin for a little over a week now and was on lovenox since I found out I was pregnant due to a DVT I had back in June of 2012 after gallbladder surgery. My question is can I request to be induced? Its been stressful and I'm worried about going into labor naturally and not being able to have an epidural or having complications due to having to be on this medication. Does anyone think I would be able to be induced because of this risk factor?
Avatar f tn So she is now ttc and is on baby aspirin daily and she may have to go on heparin shots once daily once she gets a positive pregnancy test. She is very fertile so hopefully all she needs is to be on an anticoagulant to give her a successful pregancy. I will be sure to let her know of your post. Thanks.
Avatar n tn What I did was stop the Coumadin 5 days before, and then 4 days before started Lovenox to bridge up until the surgery (Lovenox is a subcutaneous injection and is a Low Molecular Weight Heparin that will keep the blot thin enough to prevent clotting). The night of the day of the procedure I had, I restarted the Coumadin, and the following day after the surgery used Lovenox for 2 days giving the Coumadin time to begin building back up again.
270512 tn?1333177636 I started mine (actually Heparin, which was changed to Lovenox when Heparin was recalled) on day 1, when I started my other shots. I don't know the reasoning behind it. I guess every doctor has a slightly different protocol. The fewer injections you have to take, the better, right? By the time I was finished with injections (at 12 weeks pregnant), I'd been stuck 282 times that cycle alone (yes, I counted!) Good luck with your IVF!
674725 tn?1367439630 I can TOTALLY relate to the crazy mind games! As for Factor V (full name is Factor V Leiden), it's a blood clotting disorder that affects the way the blood coagulates. It's inherited, and I would have never known about it had it not been for my cousin having a deep vein thrombosis a few years back (her dad and my dad are identical twins). I've been on baby aspirin since my first miscarriage, every day, and now that I'm pregnant, I'm on Lovenox.
