Lovenox to heparin conversion

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox to heparin conversion

lovenox

Avatar m tn with MTHFR compound heterozygous (what you have) you NEED to be on Lovenox to prevent miscarriages during pregnancy- Lovenox is ABSOLUTELY safe in pregnancy (you can go to the drug's website and almost ALL reprutable OB/repoendo and perinatologist's websites- incluing NIH (national institute of medicine) also had information pertaining to this- Lovenox is too large to cross the placenta barrier - furthermore I'd be VERY concerned you MFM doesn't know this- MTHFR is extremely
281219 tn?1219114914 I can't remember who asked me this question, but I now have the answer.... I just got back from my high-risk OB appt and they have switched me to Heparin (Low-Molecular Weight, I believe) because it IS reversible should I go into labor unexpectadly, whereas Lovenox is not. I can't remember the reversal med, but it exists so that should I require an emergency c-section, they would give me this shot and send me on my way.
Avatar f tn I have to do twice a day till 37 weeks when they switch me to the low dose heparin. I also have to be induced at 39 weeks and then continue lovenox for 6 weeks after delivery.

Avatar f tn My doc, will switch me to heparin when I get to 7 months. I guess heparin is easier to control with bleeding. Lovenox I guess has a harder time being reversed. Ewww. So scary. I'm so terrified that I will hemorrhage during my csection. Thank you for making me feel not so alone. ♡♡ good luck and how far along are you?
585875 tn?1323654505 Hi Ingy! I won't be on heparin, but on lovenox (also a blood thinner), since I have Factor V. I think my RE wants me to start after retrieval...but not 100% sure.
Avatar n tn m not sure why your doctor wants to do a c-section—I had both of mine vaginally—but it is important to control the blood thinners towards the end. Usually what they do is switch you to heparin at around 36 weeks, since heparin has a shorter half-life, and will be out of your system quicker should you go into labor by yourself. Both of my deliveries were induced at 39 weeks. I stopped taking the heparin the day before and went in the next morning to have my babies. Best of luck with everything!
Avatar f tn m worried about going into labor naturally and not being able to have an epidural or having complications due to having to be on this medication. Does anyone think I would be able to be induced because of this risk factor?
Avatar n tn What I did was stop the Coumadin 5 days before, and then 4 days before started Lovenox to bridge up until the surgery (Lovenox is a subcutaneous injection and is a Low Molecular Weight Heparin that will keep the blot thin enough to prevent clotting). The night of the day of the procedure I had, I restarted the Coumadin, and the following day after the surgery used Lovenox for 2 days giving the Coumadin time to begin building back up again.
330481 tn?1309488243 ( So, DH and I pretty much decided we would do the lovenox if we are confirmed preggo. If we start the lovenox, we have to stay on it throughout the pregnancy (UGH!). But I don't care, I just want a healthy baby. The part that peed me off was when I talked to him (doc) on the phone 4-6 wks ago, he said my bloodwork and genetic work up were fine..and then hits me with this...UGH!!! BUTTHEAD!!!
Avatar n tn We are 8w5d pregnant now. Our RE recommended Lovenox/Prednisone/Baby Aspirin. How do you know when it's safe to stop each med? Nurse said it's usually through 12 weeks. But I have seen other people say online they took Lovenox until 36 weeks. Since this protocol worked, I'm scared to stop any of them. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I have never had any side effects whatsoever w/ either Heparin or Lovenox, so I don't know. Sometimes the anxiety of having to give yourself a shot if you're not used to it can cause angst and side effects :0)...that happened to me my first time. What doseage?
593530 tn?1263847957 Is anyone taking Lovenox or Heparin injections during pregnancy? Or have you taken either for prior pregnancies? I'm just really nervous about the fact that my doctor told me in order to get an epidural the drug will have had to be out of my system for about 12 hours. He acted like it was pretty common and no big deal, but I'm just worried. If there is too much of the drug in my system it could cause a blood clot causing permanent paralysis! I'm just a little freaked out.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Went today for my 31 week appt and my ob had mentioned that we switch from lovenox to heparin at about 36 weeks. I'm on lovenox for factor 5 with history of a blood clot. She also then recommended induction at 39 weeks.... the heparin would be a good idea if an epidural was needed/wanted but it's more cost and twice a day rather than once. I'm really focused on a natural delivery but understand that plans can change suddenly.
Avatar f tn im 10wks 6days. Last week i went to the doctor and they put me on lovenox. I had a past history of clotts. PE to be exact . Im super excited because my baby heartbeat was 180. And the doctor said everything was good. Im excited for you also. Just continue to take your medication and everything will be ok. GOOD LUCK!!!
270512 tn?1333177636 I started mine (actually Heparin, which was changed to Lovenox when Heparin was recalled) on day 1, when I started my other shots. I don't know the reasoning behind it. I guess every doctor has a slightly different protocol. The fewer injections you have to take, the better, right? By the time I was finished with injections (at 12 weeks pregnant), I'd been stuck 282 times that cycle alone (yes, I counted!) Good luck with your IVF!
Avatar f tn I was also on heparin 2008. I have a lack of protein c in my blood whch causes it to clot. I had to take injections twice a day for 9mons. it was scary. I had a very complicated delivery with my son and lovenox my son was born in dec 09. He is now 11yrs. old and he has a reading disability. I wanted to know if your child has any problems? I have always wondered if the blood thinners may have been the cause?
Avatar f tn It depends on hospital policy what the guidelines are for sure... my GF was on heparin shots and she had to be off them for so long in order to get an epideral (i honestly cant remember anywhere from 24-48 hours?) anyway she was off of it long enough for hospital standards but the anesthetist refused to giver her one as he said she needed to be i think 72 hours? but it was the weekend and she figures he didnt want to come in as he was on call...
1299014 tn?1273247877 Since Lovenox stays in your system a lot longer than heparin, I was switched to heparin the last month or so (they don't want blood thinners in your system when you deliver, since there are additional bleeding risks involved), and I was on 5000 IU twice a day. I'm 1.68 and about 55 kg. I hope things work out for you and that you have a successful, full-term pregnancy next time. Best of luck with everything and let me know if you have any other questions.
178698 tn?1228774338 hi- i just started lovenox injections on tuesday. my dr did the first one which he told me to do the inj down farther like right above your groin area..the one he did hurt but i have done it now twice and it really doesnt hurt, just burns for a few minutes, not bad at all. anything else let me know!
8899539 tn?1409614490 Hello, am new to this.site. am 5 weeks pregnant and my doctor just put me on lovenox injection. After going through several miscarriages. 19 weeks twins lost in February 2014 31 weeks still birth 2012 and a seven wks miscarriage.2013. Am now 5weeks pregnant, and was told I will be on the injection till 36 weeks. Has anyone else here been on it before if si, how was your experience. Am afraid!
Avatar n tn If clexane is like lovenox or heparin I started it before my embryo transfer and was on it for 10 weeks. I don't know how long it would continue because we lost the baby.
Avatar f tn I was on lovenox mine didn't burn but the doctor told me to ice the injection site first then it wouldn't be as bad......I'm almost 39 weeks and they switched me over to heparin at 38 weeks..........I'm going to the hospital Thursday the 5th to get induced......
Avatar f tn I am so sorry to hear about your miscarraiges. I can't imagine how hard that must have been. My prayers are with you. I've heard of a few treamtents for MTHFR during pregnancy, but it will ultimately depend on your doctor. Lovenox injections or heparin injections, and I've also seen combinations with baby aspirin. With the right treatment, I hope you will be able to conceive soon! Here's more information http://www.stephenwellsmd.com/mthfr.htm Hope this helps!
598654 tn?1330217159 I of course was considered high risk with both, but there are precautions to take. With both of my pregnancies, I had to give myself shots 2 times a day of Lovenox (a blood thinner, stronger than heparin) and my blood thickness was closely monitored (blood draw a few times a week until the dosage was right). I did that until the day I had my baby and then I was on coumadin for 6 weeks after having both (then I was weened off of all blood thinners).
645220 tn?1233764146 I'm taking Lovenox too and have been on it for about 7 months. I really will be happy not to have to take it anymore. I've never had an issue with the shot, and the needles has a very small gauge (width for lack of a better word), so it just slides in. I pinch my skin under my belly button and then insert the needle straight in ...not at an angle. I also inject the medication slowly. When I didn't inject it slowly I'd get welts.
