Lovenox to coumadin

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox to coumadin

lovenox

Avatar m tn After each of my the surgeries, I went back to the coumadin clinic the next day to start checking my INR (protime) and taking coumadin again according to their directions. In some cases I went every day for 3-4 days and then skip a couple of days all working to stablize my INR above 2. When that was done, I was off the Lovenox. If you are having a difficulty with maintaining your INR (protime) ask for a list of foods high in vitamin K. That has helped me a lot.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Lovenox post ablation also Coumadin. After 8 days on Lovenox I was told to stop using it as my INR was 3.8. My Lovenox prescription was for 12 days. Now just on Coumadin 5mg daily and INR has come down to 3. If you cannot tolerate Coumadin you may be "stuck" with Lovenox because of it's ability as an anticoagulant.
Avatar n tn This is something one might recommend in someone with high risk for clot such as heart failure, DM, previous embolic stroke, etc. It is generally quite safe to come off coumadin prior to these types of surgeries and this is typically what is done here at the cleveland clinic. Again, high risk patients could consider bridging with heparin.
Avatar n tn If he is in fact intolerant to coumadin then you either need a repeat operation to place a bioprosthetic valve or you need to address systematically what the side effects of the coumadin are: is he bleeding if so from where? If other side effects these can be addresses in multiple specialists.
598654 tn?1330217159 I of course was considered high risk with both, but there are precautions to take. With both of my pregnancies, I had to give myself shots 2 times a day of Lovenox (a blood thinner, stronger than heparin) and my blood thickness was closely monitored (blood draw a few times a week until the dosage was right). I did that until the day I had my baby and then I was on coumadin for 6 weeks after having both (then I was weened off of all blood thinners).
Avatar f tn If you have been in range for a long time on a stable dose of coumadin, then what the heck happened to drop you down to the same INR as someone who is not even on coumadin at all? I would want to know either how my INR got so low, or if there is no known reason, was it a false result? Lab errors do happen. There is a type of medication called a bridging agent that can be used to keep you protected while your INR is subtherapeutic.
Avatar n tn Just read your post....I have been on coumadin for 25 years due to a MVR in 1986. Now I have to have the valve replaced Feb. 8 due to calcium buildup and an aortic anuerysm repaired. I HATE coumadin...I had 55 protimes last year so over 25 years I have done protimes many, many times. The INR will not stay regulated and I have been on Lovenox injections numberous times. Therefore, I am seriously considering having a tssue valve instead of a mechanical valve this time.
Avatar n tn HI, I can't speak to the overarching issue...that is something for a doc to discuss w/ you certainly. However, I had a very large DVT that stretched from my groin to my knee in my last pregnancy (he's 6.5 now) and am pregnant again. You won't likely be on Coumadin during pregnancy (I'm guessing) but they'll switch you to Heparin or Lovenox (I'm on Lovenox).
Avatar n tn I'm on Coumadin and just found out yesterday that I am pregnant. I know that there is danger of miscarriage, birth defects, etc. I really need to hear some true stories right now. Good and bad. Anyone have any real cases they can discuss with me?
Avatar f tn 0 which is great but this is very rare. I have had to take Lovenox injections and coumadin to try to get it high enough. One time, due to some meds I was on, my INR was over 10 so I had to take a vitamin k pill which made it too low. I strictly go by the guidelines for taking coumadin but I really believe my metabolism causes a lot of my problems. My mom is in a nursing home and has the same problem. She had a St. Jude valve in 1991.
572651 tn?1530999357 t think of a clot. Anyway, I am resting comfortably in the hospital, started on Coumadin and having to do lovenox injections until my clotting is stable. For once I would be much happier if this was due to my MS. Doctor says I isn't go home tomorrow, but could be longer. We'll see.... I will be scarce for a while.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure of the risks, but I'm 17wks pregnant and take Lovenox injections (blood thinner also). My OB doctor told me I would do the injections until I am 36 weeks and then switch to Heparin because it's easier to reverse during delivery if there is an issue. Did you talk to your doctor about this? If I were you, I would call ASAP and see what you should do. Coumadin IS a blood thinner that has to cross your placenta, that's why I had to do the injections.
770426 tn?1235061489 I was on Coumadin for 2 months preprocedure and then 3 days before stopped and gave my self shots of Lovenox. Then I have taken the Coumadin for up to 3 mos after the ablation. Bllod thinners made me do nothing different in my life at all.
Avatar f tn I was treated with Lovenox and Coumadin and discharged on Xarelto. Does the clot in my heart still pose a threat to my health. I have been on Xarelto for about four days. I was also wondering if I should consider a clotting disorder since I had a blood clot 10 years ago in my leg. I am 57 years old and do not have any other problems with my heart such as A-fib. The only symptom I had was mild shortness of breath. The clots were discovered as an incidental finding on another test.
Avatar n tn it still remains in the upper leg I am allergic to coumadin i have to take steroids ,visteril and benadryl do to hives from the coumadin i have severe swelling ,pain and my leg is purple do to circulation the Dr's have told the vein in my leg is history this makes the third clot in this leg and I have also had a pulmonary why do i produce so many clots?
Avatar n tn d get a second opinion on having to take coumadin for the rest of your life and maybe even a 3rd. The Lovenox and heparin do not cross into the placenta to the baby but coumadin does. I really hope you find this helpful. I've had a long 2 pregnancies, therefore chose not to have more children, but having the Factor 5, you can still definately have perfectly happy healthy children.
Avatar f tn They have just increased me to 22mg plus lovenox. They do want me to take a beta blocker, but I have not started it yet because my blood pressure has been running low. I meet with a hemotologist on the 22nd. I will probably ask my primary dr. for a referral soon.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I went to the doctor and they did an ultrasound and found a blood clot. They put me on Coumadin/warfarin and Lovenox injections until I get to the right dose of coumadin (which should be by this weekend). I was told that coumadin does not remove or breakup the clot it just prevents it from going to the lung/heart. But my question is when does the swelling from the clot go down and how does the body break it up or remove it on its own? And, how long will this take (approximately).
Avatar n tn My father has been instructed to keep taking his coumadin prior to his AV node ablation. Isn't there a high risk of a bleed?
Avatar f tn Thanks again for the re-assurance! I seen a hematologist today because i have thick blood- Factor 5, it's called. Which causes blood clots easily. He said the blood clot came from my leg. The Neurologist said that the blood clot happened because I have a PFO, thick blood and at the time was on birth control, which put me off balance, thus the blood clot going through my PFO and into my brain.
Avatar n tn Is it common to have a PE with no evidence of a DVT? Am I realisticly looking at Lovenox for the rest of my life? I am a 32 year old male with no prior history and according to the doctors in good health. A few women on my mother's side have had DVT's around childbirth, but to my knowledge, noone has shown any genetic predisposition that can be identified.
Avatar f tn Warfarin is NOT to be taken when pregnant because it will effect the baby so Lovenox/ heparin shots are often prescribed seeing as it is faster acting and won't reach the baby. I've also had surgery to place a little screen in my body to hopefully catch any blood clots from moving elsewhere in my body to my heart. Now that I'm pregnant I've been on Lovenox shots since week 12ish and I take a baby asprin with it to hopefully prevent any blood clots from forming.
645220 tn?1233764146 I took lovenox for 2 months because i got a blood clot in my left calf from taking birth control pills, and then had to be on coumadin for another 6 months of anticoagulation. In addition i am a nurse and have to give lovenox injections all the time and teach people how to do their own injections. I am not an OB nurse and I am curious why your are taking lovenox during your pregnancy, do you have a previous clotting issue with your pregnancies?
Avatar n tn They put in a screen to prevent clots from reaching his lungs, and they put him on a blood thinner called Coumadin (which is the same or similar to warfarin, I believe). He will probably be on the Coumadin the rest of his life. That's standard procedure, as I understand it. I take Evista (raloxifene) to fight osteoporosis. The box says that it could cause blood clots, so I know it's possible for drugs to be the culprit.
338416 tn?1420045702 So glad to hear you are up and about again! I know coumadin is something that no one wants to have to deal with but at least it helps. Losing 6 pounds is awesome payback for you though...and you are supposed to aren't you...no one can eat the hospital food and I though they did that on purpose?
Avatar f tn When I discussed it all with my hematologist later(he was the one to tell me to go to the er with my symptoms) he said he thought all the clots were there originally from my first hospitalization for dka. But I have heard other people say they have thrown clots while on blood thinners so I think it's possible. But since you're on a blood thinner already the danger is much less as long as the inr is high enough.
Avatar m tn I would hate to wait 12 months only to find out its cancerous and has been spreading. He offered to allow me to have an ultrasound to rule out cancer. I found a radiology website that said an ultrasound may only be used to identify whether a mass exists but not to characterize the mass. Is the biopsy necessary to rule out cancer? Will an ultrasound rule out cancer?
