Lovenox side effects in pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox side effects in pregnancy

lovenox

1414636 tn?1288284680 I've used lovenox with my last pregnancy and with this pregnancy due to a blood clotting disorder. Lovenox is perfectly safe. does not cross the placenta but thins the blood just enough and very evenly to prevent blood clots. there are no side effects except maybe I bruised slightly easier.
Avatar f tn Im 18 weeks, my dr just called this morning saying my bloodwork has shown I should be on lovenox shots once a day. I do not want to be on these shots and have my baby have some wierd side effect because of them. Im pretty holistic and am already on an low dose asprin (which I dont like taking) a day and they still want me to do this. Ive done lots of research but still im torn between following my intuition and following drs orders.
Avatar f tn I have been taking it close to 2 months now, without any followup blood work. I am on Lovenox because earlier in my pregnancy they discovered I MIGHT have a Protein-S deficiency. They just say to keep taking the injections. Should I get a "second opinion"?
Avatar n tn Hi there, Any drug is prescribed by a doctor based on the indications and potential side effects expected if any. Usually Prednisolone is no longer used than the first pregnancy test. The heparin, aspirin are usually continued till your 10 weeks gestation is reached. But the exact treatment can be suggested only by your treating infertility expert since she knows best about your medical history. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination.
Avatar f tn I have never had any side effects whatsoever w/ either Heparin or Lovenox, so I don't know. Sometimes the anxiety of having to give yourself a shot if you're not used to it can cause angst and side effects :0)...that happened to me my first time. What doseage?
Avatar n tn Yes, I'm currently taking it..I've been very tired this pregnancy thus far but not sure if its a side effect of the med. I'm 12+5 along and you..if you don't mind me asking why exactly do you have to take it.. congrats!
Avatar f tn Just watch for abnormal bleeding Like bruising a lot or bloody nose and report to doctor. Its more important to prevent a blood clot because it can be so dangerous.
178698 tn?1228774338 t get too close to the belly button, I start on the outside work my way in, and repeat the process every fifth shot on the same side. I've been doing this for about a month now, and all I can do is take it one day at a time, I make sure not to wear elastic anywhere near the injection areas, I find my skin even more tender and bruising happens more often if I do. I hope this helps someone as knowing that there are others who share my pain helps me.
1524811 tn?1333241301 I've been on Lovenox for the last 12 weeks of my pregnancy (I'm 22 1/2 weeks now)...my baby has been fine. They just watch both of us a little closer. I'm not sure if the doctor told you but, Lovenox is pretty much the only blood thinner you can take that does not pass through your placenta. I guess for me, I had to weigh the risks of not taking the shot vs what "might" happen.
Avatar n tn If you are only been seen in a coumadin clinic, then see a hematologist. Its likely you can do heparin while you consider a transition to another med. Lovenox is another blood thinner. Both need close monitoring just like coumadin. Not sure what side effects he is having? Lovenox is a general blood level that needs to be achieved and is injected 12hrly and is pre packaged so no drawing up to do.
Avatar f tn Is it safe to use Lovenox and Ibuprofen at the same time? What kind of side effects should I expect if I do so? (I do not experience any pain). 2. Shall I be concerned about permanent implications (ie to kidney, liver etc) of using blood thinner? 3. After 10 days (when I stop the Lovenox), will I need a blood test? 4. How long would it normally take for such an injury to heal?
Avatar f tn Thank you for your input ladies!!!! I'm feeling very stressed about the whole situation. I'm on lovenox shots and oxycodone pills gor the pain. Hopefully everything gets better sooner than later O:-) good luck to the both of you!!!!
287479 tn?1272730364 I've never been on Lovenox...but am a nurse and give the injections all the time......You may have some spotting only b/c it's a blood thinner...but I'm not sure that it would be unsafe to have some spotting...as long as your cervix is in good shape.....
Avatar n tn Lovenox safety in pregnancy is a question that is best answered by your obstetrician or by a high risk maternal fetal medicine subspecialist. I personally do not believe the low positive cardiolipin titers were related to infertility; the relationship is with recurrent pregnancy loss. I too respect your RE' reasoning for initiating lovenox, but would not have done so myself - a matter of opinion and my interpretation of the research and evidence available.
3233386 tn?1447024695 I did not have any problems or side effects on Lovenox except dark bruises which is to be expected from the injections. Hope everything goes perfect for you!
162802 tn?1252121259 i spent 6 days in the hospital and was given 5 shots of Lovenox around my belly button. Lovenox is used to prevent blood clots. I immediately got huge bruises and my abdomen began to swell. I was told it was normal and would go away. With each day the swelling increased and the pain increased. I was discharged and kept going to my surgeon and the ER because the swelling kept growing on the right side of my abdomen. in 5 days it was up to 20lbs.
Avatar n tn I just had a miscarriage on July 30th and I was 23 1/2 weeks pregnant. I was put on Lovenox and a baby aspirin 2 weeks prior to miscarrying. The Doctor seems to think that when we get pregnant again that I can get on Lovenox and baby aspirin when i'm 7 weeks pregnant and that the pregnancy will be a healthy succuessful one. I'm just wondering has anyone else had a successful pregnancy taking Lovenox? Just really nervous and have alot of questions now.
Avatar n tn 1) Have you ever heard of lovenox injections to prevent further clots in stents and 2) what are the risks from lovenox to her relatively healthy kidneys (after 30+ yrs of diabetes)? Thank you for your good advice. You were the only Dr. who said E.R.
873190 tn?1304812975 It is interesting what you said about Factor V and it being an issue later in pregnancy, but yours ended in first trimester. I wonder if the same might be true for me- if it is that would be great :) Congrats on being 31 weeks along. Were the injections for Lovenox painful or hard to do?? I generally have a pretty high tolerance for pain. These HCG injections are not painful or difficult at all.
Avatar n tn I googled the two blood mutations you mentioned and found tons of science articles with lots of complicated jargon (and that's coming from someone who loves science! lol). I did however, find a site where a woman was also asking a question similar to yours and she got many responses from others. Her question and the replies to it are here: http://www. pregnancy-info .
645220 tn?1233764146 I took lovenox for 2 months because i got a blood clot in my left calf from taking birth control pills, and then had to be on coumadin for another 6 months of anticoagulation. In addition i am a nurse and have to give lovenox injections all the time and teach people how to do their own injections. I am not an OB nurse and I am curious why your are taking lovenox during your pregnancy, do you have a previous clotting issue with your pregnancies?
281219 tn?1219114914 Well I JUST picked up my Heparin Rx yesterday. I did hear about a recall eons ago (well eons in pregnancy speak) and it was certain batches but I hadn't heard that about Heparin now. Yikes...will need to investigate. Lovenox, from what I understand, is perfectly safe and fine and is a newer medicine than Heparin. The issue is that when you get closer to c-section time Lovenox can't be reversed whereas Heparin can.
Avatar m tn Is considered high risk. Having to take lovenox injections. Just found out Now considered higher risk. Told Lovenox will not be enough for blood clot problems. MY and HER question is: MTHFR mutations, C677T and A1298C information found give pretty much the same explanation; forums understandably give the best outcomes and successes. But, would like to know the other side of the coin as well. Birth defects, what kind, has anyone out here had negative outcomes with these pregnancies?
Avatar f tn During the first few weeks of pregnancy has anyone experiecnced nosebleeds? I've been reading about it but never heard of this happening before I looked it up. It doesn't seem like a common symptom. I'm only about 7 weeks and this past week I've had a few nosebleeds, I've never had them before. I'm hoping it's normal and will stop soon. Any advice???
