lovenox injection technique

Hi I just did my first lovenox injection and think I might not be doing it right. I really had to push very hard for the needle to go in then it stopped about a third of the way and I had to jam it in the rest of the way. does this sound right? I have plenty of fat so it's not as if I got held up on muscle or anything.

I have to take this blood thinner throughout my pregnancy and I give myself injections just under my belly button. I've been experiencing welts at the injection site. I don't know if I am doing something wrong. But these welts stick around for a few days. They aren't painful and don't bother me, I just think I am giving myself the shot incorrectly. Has anyone else experienced this issue?????

Hello, am new to this.site. am 5 weeks pregnant and my doctor just put me on lovenox injection. After going through several miscarriages. 19 weeks twins lost in February 2014 31 weeks still birth 2012 and a seven wks miscarriage.2013. Am now 5weeks pregnant, and was told I will be on the injection till 36 weeks. Has anyone else here been on it before if si, how was your experience. Am afraid!

Plus will have to continue Lovenox for 8 weeks after birth. Shots hurt bad but ice pack on injection site helps afterwards and dont let go of pinch for a minute after you finish injection.

Remember to switch sides with each injection. After the first injection, it is much easier to do. The shots do not hurt. The needles are very small in diameter. After each of my the surgeries, I went back to the coumadin clinic the next day to start checking my INR (protime) and taking coumadin again according to their directions. In some cases I went every day for 3-4 days and then skip a couple of days all working to stablize my INR above 2. When that was done, I was off the Lovenox.

Anyone on Lovenox... Will the burning ever go away? Any advice of where to do the injections. My love handles are so soar and its only been a week.

Hi girls. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on Lovenox? My RE is putting me on it with this next positive pregnancy. We just ran another series of blood tests and one came back positive for blood clotting. He said this particular type of clot would is associated with second or third trimester losses, whereas all four of my mc have been around five weeks. But he said it is reason enough to do Lovenox. I don't know how long I would have to take it.

I was on lovenox for a short period of time. I could not find a spot for the injection that didn't make me cry. I'm sorry you are going through this.hopefully they can switch you to the heparin by mouth instead. They told me that they normally keep ppl on the lovenox until wk 37 b.c it's longer acting and then the heparin after that b.c it's out of your system faster and is safer foe delivery bit maybe you can get switched earlier? just started me on Lovenox, I got one + hpt, still waiting on beta confirmation, but anyway, just gave myself an injection of Lovenox and now I am feeling a little light headed. Is this normal? What are some of the side effects I can expect?

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and have been taking 40mg once nightly injections of Lovenox into my abdomen. I've had minor bruising before, but the last two nights have left almost half dollar sized, almost black, MAJOR bruises. I'm not feeling bad, but I'm just afraid that there may be some type of infection or something? I've just recently started taking iron supplements, but I wouldn't think that would affect the bruising?

Do any of you ladies that take lovenox or heparin injections in your tummy have some hideous bruises? Yesterday I started Lovenox, and my bruise is nasty looking, it is small but definatly bruised and quite sore. Do any of you experience this?? I am thinking that doing this every night in a different place on my belly I am going to have a nasty looking stomach. : ) But, I couldnt be happier to have it, I would do anything for this baby!

just out of curiosity.... anyone use Lovenox with their ivf/fet cycle? And if so, when did you start the injections? My ER wants me to start the injections around O date (we are doing FET cycle). My question is.... wouldn't it be better to start sooner??? Wouldn't blood clots have already formed in the uterine lining by then? Or does the lining start to grow around O date? (I know I know... you would think I would know that part being a 4th time IVF/FET patient...

I was wondering how many women are on lovenox injections? I inject myself twice a day with 120mg. I have had an unkown clotting disorder for the past 13 years that the doctors cannot figure out why. Frustrating to say the least. When I found out I was pregnant my Hematologist put me on these injections. I was on them before for 7 months trying to figure out the best course of treatment. Now I have no choice. If I don't take them I could clot and kill the baby and myself.

The doc said that he suspected blood clots and that he was going to give me an injection of Lovenox and anticoagulant and have me go to the vasuclar lab this morning for a work up. the leg pain is horrible its so hard to walk and with being an OR nurse it's impossible to work. so i went today to get the vascular study done and it came back normal...i was thankful but fustrated b/c i don't know what's causing it.

I was recently diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism after being rushed into L&D unable to breathe. I was prescribed Lovenox by injection twice daily. The prescribing DR knows I'm now 34 weeks pregnant, but when I read the drug disclosure inside the box it states clearly NOT TO BE USED DURING PREGNANCY, CAN CAUSE GASPING SYNDROME & FETAL DEATH.

What I did was stop the Coumadin 5 days before, and then 4 days before started Lovenox to bridge up until the surgery (Lovenox is a subcutaneous injection and is a Low Molecular Weight Heparin that will keep the blot thin enough to prevent clotting). The night of the day of the procedure I had, I restarted the Coumadin, and the following day after the surgery used Lovenox for 2 days giving the Coumadin time to begin building back up again.

Figure 8 a rubber band to the barrel to keep it ready to trigger. Once placed, you only need depress the button to inject. This eliminates the tendency to press too hard into the skin to compress the barrel (and therefore inject too deep). I often tuck a towel between my chest and arm to extend the 'batwing' area to make it more accessible. This tip probably works best for older injectable users - everything hangs more for us! Just grab, support and inject.

I can't remember who asked me this question, but I now have the answer.... I just got back from my high-risk OB appt and they have switched me to Heparin (Low-Molecular Weight, I believe) because it IS reversible should I go into labor unexpectadly, whereas Lovenox is not. I can't remember the reversal med, but it exists so that should I require an emergency c-section, they would give me this shot and send me on my way.

I take a 40mg injection a day because. I have the factor 5 heterozygous gene. I just take it a day at a time and hope a clot still don't form. But I'm 35 weeks +5 and she's measuring in the 86th percentile and healthy.

Is anyone taking Lovenox or Heparin injections during pregnancy? Or have you taken either for prior pregnancies? I'm just really nervous about the fact that my doctor told me in order to get an epidural the drug will have had to be out of my system for about 12 hours. He acted like it was pretty common and no big deal, but I'm just worried. If there is too much of the drug in my system it could cause a blood clot causing permanent paralysis! I'm just a little freaked out.

I am 16 weeks pregnant and have had an Mitral Valve replacement around 20 yrs back - I am on Lovenox and now due to my heart condition my doc recommended I switch to Warfarin - I wanted to know if there is anyone out there who ahs taken warfarin in the second trimester and what are the outcomes? Please I will really apreciate it. I am so apprehensive but I know it will help my heart since i had 2 mini strokes recently. Please anyone out there?????

I have since talked to my friend who i mention in my last post and she was on heparin twice a day but wanted to be on lovenox as its just once a day... but its more money... and she had to skip her last injection so there was 12 hours before her induction... it is stupid that your covered for lovenox but not heparin... especially if its cheaper?! But anyway im sure it will all get worked out... congrats and good luck!!!

My doctor thinks I am a good candidate for the platelet injection. Can you tell me about the possible effects following the injection? Increased soreness etc. Currently there is pain while walking and any flexon, extension too. I am an active and healthy person who loves to hunt and be in the outdoors.I am still lifting upper body weights and have discontinued all cardio. and lower body weight lifting. Any info you have will be appreciated.
