Lovenox and regional anesthesia

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox and regional anesthesia

lovenox

Avatar f tn Both general and regional anesthesia are inherently safe for knee arthroscopy. One or the other may be preferable for you depending on your general health and the specifics of your medical history. This is usually determined by your anesthesiologist. I know of no study that documents the frequency of one anesthesia technique over another for simple knee arthroscopy.
Avatar n tn I had it aspirated about six months ago but it recurred, so my doctor told me that the only permanent solution is to remove it surgically. How is this surgery performed and what type of anesthesia is commonly used?. I'd rather prefer local or regional anesthesia if possible.
Avatar f tn Opiates are given in small doses and usually administered during the early stages of labor in an attempt to avoid potential side effects for both the mother and baby. Local anesthesia may be used by your health care provider during delivery to numb a painful area in or around the vagina if stitches are needed. Local medications do not reduce discomfort during labor.
281219 tn?1219114914 You can by-pass that risk by going under general anesthesia, but then you still have the risk of bleeds and hematoma or hemmorage or even clots from the c-section site. The best way, acc'd to my doc, to navigate this is to go on Heparin instead of Lovenox because your anticoagulant dose can be counteracted, thus reducing alot of the risk of anti-coagulant-based bleeding at the c-section site.
Avatar m tn The patient will check into the facility where the procedure is being performed and an intravenous line (IV) established in order to administer fluids and medication. The type of anesthesia used varies depending on the joint being examined and the medical health of the patient. Arthroscopy can be performed under a general anesthetic, a spinal or epidural anesthetic, a regional block (where only the extremity being examined is numbed), or even a local anesthetic.
Avatar f tn Anesthesia could be regional or general. Regional anesthesia can be applied to the forefoot and local anesthesia can be used for a minor bone spur removal. a sedative relaxes the individual and a tourniquet may be applied to ankle and foot to reduce blood flow and a clear work field. Bone spurs on the foot are removed via an open procedure by cutting into the foot, taking care to avoid damage to tendons and nerves.
1666903 tn?1383332156 Thyroid profile would be required to check if hypothyroidism led to delayed recovery from general anesthetics. Regional anesthesia also would be difficult with a higher risk of unpredictability and more frequency of a failed spinal anesthesia. A high-risk consent would be required if you are morbidly obese or have other chronic diseases etc. discuss these with your anesthesiologist and discuss the prognosis and predicted surgical outcome with the neurosurgeon.
Avatar f tn The drugs used in general anesthesia act as hypnotics, painkillers, and muscle relaxants. They also block a person's memory of the surgery Conscious sedation, which induces an altered state of consciousness that minimizes pain and discomfort through the use of pain relievers and sedatives, allows the patient to speak and respond to verbal cues throughout the procedure, although he or she may not remember any of what occurs.
Avatar f tn My question is how damaging are these blood thinners, anesthesia, painkillers and contrasts to the liver? Is there anything I can do to help my liver through this? Currently my blood tests are normal for liver function, my viral load is consistently below 200,000 and as far as a CAT scan can tell, my liver looks normal. (I presume a biopsy may not be possible for a while due to the anticoagulants.....?) Any suggestions would be great..feeling a little nervous about it all.
359937 tn?1220983851 s office, under local anesthesia, or as an outpatient procedure, under sedation and regional or general anesthesia. During the procedure, the cystoscope, which can be flexible or rigid and is about half the diameter of the urethra, is slowly inserted into the urethra to the bladder. A camera may be attached to the cystoscope to allow images to be viewed on a monitor. Cystoscopy usually takes from a few minutes to about 20 minutes to perform.
645390 tn?1338555377 When I was in the Navy, general anesthesia can be rough to deal with at sea, so when we could, we used IV sedation and local or regional blocks. Most of the time, we could sew up a scalp with local anesthesia. Bug nasty jobs required moving to regional blocks. It is the same theory, but we were not doing it for long term pain management. We did it to five us a couple of hours to put things back together.
Avatar n tn Hello,I would like to find out if it is possible to have surgery to remove a 4cm dermoid cyst from the ovary, under epidural/spinal or regional anaesthesia instead of general. If not possible could you please tell me why?
Avatar m tn If it involves the regional kind (this means anesthesia will be delivered through the spine at the lower back), some patients become anxious when they regain consciousness and realize that they can't move their legs- this is part of coming out of the anesthesia - not everything returns at the same time.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have to go off my Warfarin for a colonoscopy. The cardiologist's nurse said ask the doctor doing the procedure how long I should be off of the Warfarin. Doctor says ask the assistant when she gives me my instructions. Assistant says, "Oh, I'm supposed to tell you? Do you need a bridge medication like Lovenox?" Makes me a little nervous going off of it anyway and now this.
Avatar n tn On 12/1 I had a complete metabolic profile drawn for a routine endocrinology follow up and LFTs then were ALT 17 and AST 18. The Sectral and Lovenox were initiated before my preop labs on 1/29, which showed LFTs elevated (ALT 120, AST 59). I am concerned that the Sectral has been toxic to my liver and want to stop the medication now. I will be having labs repeated on 2/13, and will see the gastroenterologist again on 1/21.
Avatar n tn As far as I know lovenox is no reason to perform a c section. If you are unsure, then please ask your Dr. why he/she wants to deliver you this way. Your wishes do count and it's important you feel comfortable and confident in how the actual delivery takes place.
Avatar f tn My mother died at age 49 a week and half before her 50th birthday on September 1,1985 when I was 20 from a rare aggressive type of endometrial cancer stage 4 in just 4 months after being diagnosed, although she put off going and getting checked out by the doctor for many months after she was feeling weak and sick already.
Avatar f tn t argue or comment on your doctors opinion on the necessity of taking it while also on Lovenox and I definitely agree that Lovenox and Folgard are MUCH more important rather then just the aspirin, but if he is of the opinion that they do two different things and you are not taking the aspirin to cover off the missing 12 hours, according to my hematologist, taking only one dose of Lovenox per day wasn't covering me off all day (which is where I obtained the information that it is short lived
Avatar f tn I am currently 25 weeks and have been on Lovenox since week 6. I have a blood clotting problem. I will have a csection at 36 weeks but that is due to other health problems. I will have to have those stupid leg vacuun things while in hospital to keep circulation. I hate those things very loud and you can't move. Plus will have to continue Lovenox for 8 weeks after birth.
553516 tn?1255867219 I was under general anesthesia and it was done at the same time my laparoscopy was done, but I understand it can be done with regional or local anesthesia so you will feel no pain. I had a little bleeding because I also had a D&C (scraping) , but I imagine it depends on what is done .. Have you been having any unusual symptoms? Good luck and try not to worry.. it's a simple procedure.
287479 tn?1272730364 Turns out I have a bloody clotting disorder. I got pregnant again (and started the Lovenox injections) and everything was going well until last week. I began having spotting. My hcg was increasing, but my progesterone dropped quickly and I lost the baby. My husband and I are giving this one more shot. My doctor wants to start me on Clomid next month, along with one baby aspirin a day and and folic acid until I get pregnant.
15993089 tn?1444575391 I recently had a procedure that required anesthesia and when they checked my O2 sat with the finger thing prior to the procedure, it was 89%. They had me take several deep breaths and moved it to my thumb and after several tries got a reading they were okay with. My HCT never returned to normal since my chemo for breast cancer which ended almost a year ago. I am having back and hip pain.
Avatar f tn my first pregnancy with this dr. and taking Lovenox for the past 15 days.....Had second sonogram yesterday and saw fetal pole, yolk sac and heartbeat!!! I was so excited, I was on cloud nine all day...until two hours ago when I heard my latest #'s.....already spoke to dr. he said not to worry and go for blood test Mon. He did tell me originally that the minute I think I;m pregnant I should start the Lovenox. I started it when my levels were only42!!! Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn What has happened, and do you know what caused it, and how long will it last, and could it ever happen again? I was unable to drive, and advised to rest. Please help Thankyou Jimcal This discussion is related to Nerve hit by dental injection.
Avatar n tn That can be done under general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or heavy IV sedation. You will need some tissue for biopsy, but no need to be tortured to obtain it. That's why we have anesthesia! The other thing to consider, is what to do to prevent the thickening from coming back afterwards--for many people, taking progesterone for 14 days every three months works very nicely--and then follow the lining size with ultrasound.

Avatar m tn Surgical removal of testes is called Orchiectomy which is usually done under regional anesthesia. It is usually an outpatient procedure and the patients can be discharged the same day. Post operatively, you need to take some precautions such as drinking extra fluids, avoiding vigorous exercise, supporting the scrotum for first two weeks , avoiding heavy lifting etc. Your doctor can tell more about your specific procedure which can vary from person to person.
Avatar n tn WHile they can be treated with a cast, the treatment course is prolonged, and the risk of rerupture is high. Surgery is often done with regional anesthesia, rather than general, and is done as an outpatient. Recovery is very predictable, and the success rate is very high. Partial tears, can be treated non surgically. Treatment options include immobilization, and a course of physical therapy. Recent success has been reported with the use of platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections.
Avatar n tn I also have the same issue. My IGM first came back borderline and then the 2nd 2 tests were just slightly positive. I don't have any history of miscarriages. I'm on 40mg Lovenox a day and have been spotting brown blood for past 2 weeks. I have heard Lovenox causes bleeding. I don't think I need to be on Lovenox. My Rhemetologist said some docs would think Lovenox is necessary while other docs would think I wouldn't need Lovenox.
