Lovenox and low molecular weight heparin

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox and low molecular weight heparin

lovenox

Avatar f tn Hi, I'm an RN and I can tell you that heparin and levonox are basically the exact same thing. They are often used interchangeably in hospitals. The major difference in the molecular weight. Otherwise they do the exact same thing. However, you shouldn't be taking heparin and aspirin 325 at the same time, it might thin out your blood to a dangerous degree. You usually have to do an INR to monitor the blood clotting ability and to ensure that your blood isn't too thin.
Avatar n tn What I did was stop the Coumadin 5 days before, and then 4 days before started Lovenox to bridge up until the surgery (Lovenox is a subcutaneous injection and is a Low Molecular Weight Heparin that will keep the blot thin enough to prevent clotting). The night of the day of the procedure I had, I restarted the Coumadin, and the following day after the surgery used Lovenox for 2 days giving the Coumadin time to begin building back up again.
281219 tn?1219114914 I just got back from my high-risk OB appt and they have switched me to Heparin (Low-Molecular Weight, I believe) because it IS reversible should I go into labor unexpectadly, whereas Lovenox is not. I can't remember the reversal med, but it exists so that should I require an emergency c-section, they would give me this shot and send me on my way. The gal that asked me the question wanted to know about risks of c-section while being anti-coagulated.
1141709 tn?1329402332 My high risk doc says it could be the low molecule Heparin shots (Clexane, which is similar to Lovenox, to be exact). No one seems too concerned, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this and if it dissipated, grew, and what if anything was done about it. This week I am going to my hematologist to see if I need to adjust my dose of Clexane.
Avatar f tn Hi I take coumadin and whenever I am going in for surgery they take me off of it about 5 days before and put me on low molecular weight heparin through injections. I also have a history of clots, but have been told that low molecular weight heparin is safe.
Avatar m tn As you know, you drop coumadin and start Lovenox (which is a lower molecular weight heparin). My first kit came with a book and a DVD telling my excaty what to do. I just piched up my belly just to the side of my belly button and pushed in the needle. Remember to switch sides with each injection. After the first injection, it is much easier to do. The shots do not hurt. The needles are very small in diameter.
Avatar f tn It's called heparin. Lovenox does not have a medicine to counter block. Basically you will be given a medicine to stop you from bleeding out.
Avatar n tn Their recommendations for someone with your history would include only careful monitoring for symptoms during pregnancy, with Low molecular weight heparin (Lovenox) and compression stockings for six weeks after delivery IF you had a c-section. A baby aspirin is not going to hurt anything either outside of or during pregnancy, so there is no reason NOT to take it, Hope this is useful!
Avatar n tn Both of my deliveries were induced at 39 weeks. I stopped taking the heparin the day before and went in the next morning to have my babies. Best of luck with everything!
Avatar m tn Now I have gotten a surprise BFP and my doc is talking about Lovenox (low dose). Maternal fetal medicine says NO WAY its too risky without having a diagnosed blood clotting disorder, but my OB and RE are willing to put me on it. I'm concerned about the risks (to myself, I know it won't affect the baby). Is it all that risky? Could it help in my situation? I dont know what else to do but really want to have more kids!
Avatar n tn ACCP guidelines suggest prophylactic-dose low molecular-weight or unfractionated heparin and low-dose aspirin for women with inherited thrombophilia and recurrent pregnancy loss or a single second- or third-trimester loss [Bates et al 2004]. Other pregnancy complications. Data supporting the benefit of antithrombotic therapy in thrombophilic women with other pregnancy complications are considerably more limited.
Avatar m tn my father have 76 years of age now with a bp 220/150 and globally hypokinetic lv with severe dystolic lv dysfunction now treating with low molecular weight heparin. what is your comment please mail to *****************@ gmail.
1414636 tn?1288284680 t pay for it and it was very expensive. So now I have medicaid and the doc has perscribed me lovenox.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Went today for my 31 week appt and my ob had mentioned that we switch from lovenox to heparin at about 36 weeks. I'm on lovenox for factor 5 with history of a blood clot. She also then recommended induction at 39 weeks.... the heparin would be a good idea if an epidural was needed/wanted but it's more cost and twice a day rather than once. I'm really focused on a natural delivery but understand that plans can change suddenly.
Avatar f tn My doc, will switch me to heparin when I get to 7 months. I guess heparin is easier to control with bleeding. Lovenox I guess has a harder time being reversed. Ewww. So scary. I'm so terrified that I will hemorrhage during my csection. Thank you for making me feel not so alone. ♡♡ good luck and how far along are you?
585875 tn?1323654505 Hi Ingy! I won't be on heparin, but on lovenox (also a blood thinner), since I have Factor V. I think my RE wants me to start after retrieval...but not 100% sure.
Avatar f tn Okay so I am 37+4 and I have been on Heparin for a little over a week now and was on lovenox since I found out I was pregnant due to a DVT I had back in June of 2012 after gallbladder surgery. My question is can I request to be induced? Its been stressful and I'm worried about going into labor naturally and not being able to have an epidural or having complications due to having to be on this medication. Does anyone think I would be able to be induced because of this risk factor?
1299014 tn?1273247877 The second time I got pregnant, I was already on baby aspirin and I was suppose to start Lovenox shots once a heartbeat was detected. Well I started spotting the day of my 6 week appointment, and was cramping by the time I got to the doctor. They did see a heartbeat, and I picked up the lovenox on the way home, but never got to start it, as I miscarried naturally that night.
Avatar n tn In other cases you might have to take a shot of low-dose heparin every day (usually lovenox). I have Factor V and have had two miscarriages, although my doctor does not seem to think it has anything to do with it, as it seems to have more of an impact in the second and third trimester (I was supposed to start Lovenox when a heartbeat was detected). Both my miscarriages were early on (8 weeks and 6.5 weeks).
5106112 tn?1363683091 While early prophylaxis in surgical patients with low-molecular-weight-heparin has been associated with significant reductions in postoperative venous thrombosis, it is important that ACCP Recommendations are also checked with regards to the risk stratification levels. For patients following total knee replacement, administering pharmacological and mechanical methods are often indicated based on the recommendations.
Avatar f tn Im 18 weeks, my dr just called this morning saying my bloodwork has shown I should be on lovenox shots once a day. I do not want to be on these shots and have my baby have some wierd side effect because of them. Im pretty holistic and am already on an low dose asprin (which I dont like taking) a day and they still want me to do this. Ive done lots of research but still im torn between following my intuition and following drs orders.

330481 tn?1309488243 Hey girl, I have the exact diagnosis and before I got diagnosed I had 3 miscarriages and they tested 2 of the 3 and they came back normal so the ob knew that it was my body rejecting the pregnancies. So he put me on extra folic acid, B complex, baby aspirin and heparin and the next pregnancy stuck and I had my little girl who turned 2 last week.
1155902 tn?1262438082 I would suggest you to discuss with your surgeon and rule out deep vein thrombosis. LMWH (low molecular weight heparin) is effective after hip replacement surgery. I would also suggest you to rule out acidity due to chronic use of pain killers. Take care!
