I would not be comfortable with having a mechanical mitral valve and an INR of 1, because an INR of 1 is the same as not being anticoagulated at all. Which brings up the question, was the result even correct? If you have been in range for a long time on a stable dose of coumadin, then what the heck happened to drop you down to the same INR as someone who is not even on coumadin at all? I would want to know either how my INR got so low, or if there is no known reason, was it a false result?
I was diagnosed with lupus anticoagulant blood disorder. I have a leg full of clots that won't break up and go away. They have been treated for 3 years with warfarin, lovenox and cumadin. All to no avail. My gp doctor doesn't seem to have the knack to getting the INR levels stable. I've been at levels of 6 and 6.5 many times leading to ER transfusions. Last week it was 1.1 I'm worried because the symptoms are so much worse lately.
I went to the hospital for blood work and a cat scan. All turned up well. My blood reading was INR 1.83 and pro time 21.7. I am now experiencing lack of energy, slight fever. What can I do?
I am taking 2 mg of cumiden at this time (as of yesterday). I was taking 5 mg of cumiden and 100 mg of lovenox at 12 hour intervals for six days prior to this new dosage.
If your brother was hospitalized due to mini strokes he may have been given anticoagulants to dissolve clots and keep the blood thin. The side effect is bleeding. The bruise could be due to that. INR, bleeding time, clotting time etc should be done and he must consult his doctor immediately-ASAP as he could also be bleeding internally. Take care!

It is a pain having to give up certain foods and be careful of the meds that interfere with coumadin.So many things interfere with the levels.....heat, cold, altitude....list goes on. Also if any type of surgery is required, such as a colonoscopy, then you have to be bridged with Lovenox injections while off coumadin.
When I was monitored which was 1x wk due to my inr going all over, the nurse also listened to my lungs each time. If your inr goes down you can ask for lovenox shots until it goes up. I carried and still carry a lovenox shot everywhere with me- if you feel symptoms of PE: a very fast heart rate, pain, trouble breathing, you can inject it and go to an er immediately.
I was told not to do any exercise except walking until the clot dissolved as anything else could dislodge it.
I went to the er again, they kept me overnight and said they could feel something going on which was a sign of a clot. I was given a shot of lovenox as my inr had gone down and then in the morning ultrasound was done. That was negative but I'm sure I had something going on in that leg too. When I discussed it all with my hematologist later(he was the one to tell me to go to the er with my symptoms) he said he thought all the clots were there originally from my first hospitalization for dka.
I just got lab results back for prothrombin time and INR and do have some concerns. My prothrombin time reading is 15.3 (normal 11.1-14.5) and INR is 1.3 (normal 0.8-1.1). This is the third time I have had this test done and it comes out similar each time except with my very first reading my prothrombin was high and INR was low. What does a reading of high in both prothrombin time and INR indicate?
The INR will not stay regulated and I have been on Lovenox injections numberous times. Therefore, I am seriously considering having a tssue valve instead of a mechanical valve this time. I know there is a chance of having to have a "redo" for the tissue valve so really worrying about that situation. Hopefully by the time to redo the tissue valve another option will be available for surgery.
According to my Dr. many women with Ovarian Cancer develop bloot clots. Be glad she is not on Lovenox and having to give herself shots in her tummy daily. For 4 shots, it is $1200, not covered by my insurance. I was in bed so much after Doxil also and should have been wearing the compression socks to prevent blood clots. I have not been on hormone therapy. I am on the shots and Coumadin (Warfarin).
my first pregnancy with this dr. and taking Lovenox for the past 15 days.....Had second sonogram yesterday and saw fetal pole, yolk sac and heartbeat!!! I was so excited, I was on cloud nine all day...until two hours ago when I heard my latest #'s.....already spoke to dr. he said not to worry and go for blood test Mon.
He did tell me originally that the minute I think I;m pregnant I should start the Lovenox. I started it when my levels were only42!!! Good luck to you.
The only way to determine your individual dose is to test your INR at various dosages and see what dosage it is that keeps you in range.
I'm sorry your first surgery went badly. That happened to me, too, so I can relate. Now you need to find a surgeon who can fix the problem you have with your mitral valve. If you needed surgery before this, you need it even more now, because the valve is less functional now than it was before your surgery.

Today I take 20mg of coumidin and lovenox shots and am still not therapudic. protime is 1.73 I go to a hemotologist on the 22nd of June. I also just had a echocardiogram done as a follow-up. They found I have only 2 valves on my tricuspid and a hole i my heart. Also my ejection fraction rate is about 50% What should I be doing. Should I persue going to the Cleveland Clinic?
My labs have always been consistent with a meld score of 8, and platelets low at 115. Today, I recalculated my bloodwork results, and my new meld score is now a 6! Past scans have shown a finely nodular surface, with tiny varacies. ( Their words ). Also portal veins at 9mm. Was a social drinker without knowledge of hep c. Found out I had hep c almost 2 years ago, and haven't had a drink since. Child Pugh 5, without any other signs or symptoms of cirrhosis.
