Lovenox and epidural anesthesia

Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox and epidural anesthesia

lovenox

281219 tn?1219114914 ll tell you to stop taking Lovenox 24 hours prior to c-section and if not, as there is a risk to hemorrage with an epidural, if you do need an emergency c-section or a c-section before the 24-hour timeframe of being off Lovenox, they advised me that I'd be put under general anesthesia.
Avatar n tn For me, I had a wonderful delivery after my epidural (before the epidural was hellish...), it was calm and I was relaxed and could focus on the details of the moment.
1212601 tn?1276920691 I used the epidural during both of my deliveries (son 2001, and daughter 2006). I will be using one again in December for the birth of my third! I had no problems with the epidural, and more importantly it didn't affect the babies at all. In fact my hb, Doctor and I were joking and laughing all the way through the pushing phase... I experienced no discomfort whatsoever during the delivery!
1414636 tn?1288284680 I've used lovenox with my last pregnancy and with this pregnancy due to a blood clotting disorder. Lovenox is perfectly safe. does not cross the placenta but thins the blood just enough and very evenly to prevent blood clots. there are no side effects except maybe I bruised slightly easier.
8650265 tn?1421565413 Also after my last birth I developed a horrible headache in the hospital and it lasted about three weeks, something with the epidural had gone wrong and I couldn't even sit up or breastfeed my son. They hit something they shouldn't have and there was fluid leaking that caused the headache. Worst pain I've ever felt! I was supposed to get a "blood patch" but I didn't want them sticking any more needles in me, so luckily it healed itself after 3 weeks of misery.
Avatar n tn Are lumbar and cervical epidurals always administered under general anesthesia? What is the typical way this is done in the pain management community? Does anyone get the epidurals without general anesthesia? I have always had them done with general anesthesia, but now the insurance company says that it will not pay for two anesthesia services performed on the same day by two different providers. They regard the epidural itself as anesthesia.
Avatar f tn There are ALWAYS risks with any kind of anesthesia...and general anesthesia has a higher risk of complications than an epidural. I understand your concern. I am 21 weeks pregnant with my third child (but my 2nd child was born 19 years ago!). Both of my children were born vaginally without an epidural and I plan to not have an epidural with this one...
Avatar f tn My question is how damaging are these blood thinners, anesthesia, painkillers and contrasts to the liver? Is there anything I can do to help my liver through this? Currently my blood tests are normal for liver function, my viral load is consistently below 200,000 and as far as a CAT scan can tell, my liver looks normal. (I presume a biopsy may not be possible for a while due to the anticoagulants.....?) Any suggestions would be great..feeling a little nervous about it all.
593530 tn?1263847957 Sorry... didn't know you were already pregnant! Congrats on your healthy baby boy!
Avatar m tn t notice it so i took it off and for last few hrs i didnt have gas and air either and it wasnt bad at all i enjoyed it infact about hr after birth i said i wanted more children its tiering not painful hope this helps
Avatar f tn The orthopedic surgeon mentioned that the most likely anesthesia would be an epidural rather than a general anesthesia. There is little information on epidurals online. Is it given directly into the spine, like the spinal they sometimes give during labor? Someone told me that, for knee surgeries, the epidural is actually given below the spinal cord and there is no risk of injury to the spinal cord.
Avatar f tn Regional anesthesia (also called an epidural or spinal anesthesia) is administered by an anesthesiologist (a doctor who delivers pain medicine) during labor to reduce discomfort. In both epidural and spinal anesthesia, medications are placed near the nerves in your lower back to "block" pain in a wide region of your body while you stay awake. Regional anesthesia greatly reduces pain throughout the birthing process. It can also be used if a cesarean birth becomes necessary.
Avatar f tn i have a arachnoid cyst in my brain..and i need to get spinal anesthesia for my csection...since the spinal meds are injected into the spinal fluid....what could it do to the cyst in my head?
Avatar f tn They will keep close attention and continually test your freezing with cold. I had an epidural with my son and this did feel differently. I was numb and felt no pain but could still move and walk after the surgery. You do stay totally out through the surgery.
8899539 tn?1409614490 Hello, am new to this.site. am 5 weeks pregnant and my doctor just put me on lovenox injection. After going through several miscarriages. 19 weeks twins lost in February 2014 31 weeks still birth 2012 and a seven wks miscarriage.2013. Am now 5weeks pregnant, and was told I will be on the injection till 36 weeks. Has anyone else here been on it before if si, how was your experience. Am afraid!
Avatar f tn m worried about going into labor naturally and not being able to have an epidural or having complications due to having to be on this medication. Does anyone think I would be able to be induced because of this risk factor?
Avatar f tn This is my 2nd baby and I am getting an epidural. I had a 23-24 hr labor with my 1st and got an epidural by the end of it. the epidural was great because it allowed me to get a little rest before the baby arrived. It also helped me to enjoy the birthing process with my husband better because I wasnt in pain or super cranky with him.
Avatar f tn Ive had an epidural with all births of my children...the bad thing is it messes up your back :/ and sometimes it doeant even work. With one I ended up with only one numb leg and felt the entire birth and with another the dr wanted to make sure I "felt" my contractions so I could push. So it does depend on the anesthesia dr and your dr as well how much and how long they want to leave it in for and whether or not they want you to "feel" contractions at the time of pushing.
Avatar f tn The drugs used in general anesthesia act as hypnotics, painkillers, and muscle relaxants. They also block a person's memory of the surgery Conscious sedation, which induces an altered state of consciousness that minimizes pain and discomfort through the use of pain relievers and sedatives, allows the patient to speak and respond to verbal cues throughout the procedure, although he or she may not remember any of what occurs.
Avatar f tn You don't get an epidural usually with an elective c-section, it's just a spinal which is just a shot. General anesthesia isn't recommend as it effects the baby, and more recovery issues.
1666903 tn?1383332156 I've been diagnosed with lumbar and cervical stenosis. The lumbar portion is causing the most difficulties. I was told that there is an issue with or between (can't remember) L4 and L5. I've undergone physical therapy, drug treatment, rehab, and three sets of epidural injections, to no avail. Surgery is my last resort. However, I'm a poor surgical risk because I am obese. Does that completely rule me out? I can't live in this kind of pain for much longer.
Avatar f tn but my closest friend has rods in her spine and has given birth three times (last baby was back to back) and only had gas and air as she said she can't have an epidural.
Avatar f tn There are risks with every medical procedure involving anesthesia, but paralysis from and epidural is basically unheard of today. It's a catheter placed between your vertebrae and spinal cord, in a pocket of spinal fluid. A needle does not actually stay in place in your back, it only inserts a flexible catheter that delivers the anesthesia to numb you from that point down.
Avatar m tn I saw a Neurosurgeon today who said I can absolutely NOT have another vaginal birth and that I also cannot have any epidural or spinal anesthesia. He recommended I have general anesthesia with a c-section to deliver. I am very nervous and scared for this. I am also disappointed I will not be able to hold or see my baby when he/she is born for a few hours at least.
