Avatar m tn After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. Avatar f tn The interaction has also been reported in patients receiving atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with other potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and nefazodone. Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.
Avatar m tn Lisinopril and Carvedilol are blood pressure medications (lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, Carvedilol is a beta blocker) and should not have any effect on your lipid profile. Both are important medications for those who have suffered a heart attack and undergone stenting. In addition to these medications, you should be on some sort of lipid medication (a "statin" such as atorvastatin, pravastatin, rosuvasatin, lovastatin, etc).
Avatar f tn Lisinipril is $4/month and $10 for 90 days at WalMart and many other pharmacies that have the $4 precription plan. You pay out of pocket. Simvastatin isn't on that list, but lovastatin and pravastatin are, if your doctor feels like you could try substituting one of those. Metoprolol isn't on the $4/month plan, but atenolol is. Again, maybe your doctor would be okay with changing you from metoprolol to atenolol. It's worth talking to the doc about.

179856 tn?1333547362 After 36 weeks of treatment, the cumulative proportion of patients who reached the primary safety endpoint was lower in the pravastatin group than in the placebo group (8% vs 13%; 95% confidence interval [CI], −11.6 to 1.6; P = .1379). In fact, the mean ALT values declined from baseline in the pravastatin group, whereas the mean ALT and AST were increased from baseline in the placebo group. None of the subjects in either treatment group had an elevation of total bilirubin >2 times the ULN.

Avatar m tn However, since we and others have been unable to make other statins work against HBV, such as fluvastatin (Korba, unpublished results), pravastatin (Bader, unpublished results), or lovastatin (Lin et al., 2003), the reduction of mevalonate is unlikely to be the sole source of anti-HBV effect.

Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
Avatar m tn It has been studied as noted by the excerpt from the NIH below. There has been a small plaque regression with LDL levels below 70, increased HDL, statin therapy and aerobic exercise; "BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of lifestyle modification, mainly daily aerobic exercise, on coronary atherosclerosis in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Lovastatin for 2 months. For the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing aching kidneys and I'm very tired. I had blood work done today for follow up of the drug and notified the doctor that I had this problem. My body temperature is 96.8, which I realize is a bit low, but perhaps normal? Could the achiness be due to the Lovastatin? I'm quite concerned about this and have had kidney problems as a child.

Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old, female. I was put on Pravastatin about 9 weeks ago as my cholesterol had gone from 190 to 225 from the previous year. I have a family history of heart disease (my father passed away after a second heart attack at 53). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and was placed on Levoxyl (75mg) and my levels have remained normal. I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks.
Avatar m tn m still trying to get a clarification. Anyway, the cardiologist put me on Amlodopine and Pravastatin. Now, on a daily basis it seems, my heart rate increases and beats at 90-115 bpm (normally in the mid 70s). At the same time, I've started on a vegetarian diet to try to lower my cholesterol. To try to make sure I get enough protein, I am using a protein drink (10-14 gr protein each). I drink 1-2 of these per day.

Avatar n tn I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.
Avatar m tn Is it safe to take Levothyroxine at the same time as Pravastatin? Also, 2 months ago, I started to take my Levothyroxine at bedtime instead of in the morning as it is more convenient. and after a recent bloodtest my GP has reduced my Thyroxine to 75mcg instead of 100mcg. Could taking it at bedtime be the reason for this reduction? I will obviously ask my GP about this on my next visit to the surgery but would be grateful for any advice.
1806721 tn?1554333407 My doctor has put me on generic pravastatin 20mg. A few days after I started the drug, I had a fever with flu-like symptom, and when that went away in a few days, I have been having hip/knee pains and fatigue that gets worse over the course of 2 weeks. My question is: Could these symptoms be related with pravastatin? Will these symptoms go away after a while?
