Avatar n tn In your tags you put NF1 which is neurofibromatosis (I have a nephew with this) - do you have this diagnosis? White matter is... ambiguous. Your neurologist needs to do more testing to give you more of an idea. This is better posted under the neurology forum than here as well.
Avatar m tn After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar n tn Has she NF1 or NF2 did he tell you ,what age is your child?
Avatar m tn I was just diagnosed with Thoracic spine pseudomeningocele and Chiari malformation. I also have scoliosis and NF1. I started having headache 4/16 and they only got worse. I didn't go to the doctors until I felt so much pressure on my eyes, ears and the back of head when I coughed. It felt like I was going to die. I had a MRI done on a unrelated issue and the image showed something on T8 of my spine. Since I have NF1 that's what we thought it was.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Lovastatin for 2 months. For the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing aching kidneys and I'm very tired. I had blood work done today for follow up of the drug and notified the doctor that I had this problem. My body temperature is 96.8, which I realize is a bit low, but perhaps normal? Could the achiness be due to the Lovastatin? I'm quite concerned about this and have had kidney problems as a child.
1817071 tn?1366228243 Hi, I took Lovastatin 10 mg. for 8 yrs. with no problem. Last Sept. Cardio Dr. wanted my HDL higher. He prescribed Pravastatin 20mg. After taking the Pravastatin for 3 mos. I noticed muscle fatigue and discomfort. I do a Sr. Aerobics class and use 3 lb weights. In the past, I used 5 lbs with no aftereffects. I ache all the time now. Last month, I asked my PCP to prescribe Lovastatin again, since after 6 mos.
Avatar f tn I knew I had two cafe spots on my shoulder and arm growing up but recently shaved my legs for sport and realised I have another two, does this indicate anything bad? I know NF1 developes as a child and I have no symptoms whatsoever, but I’m extremely worried as of now.

20793223 tn?1508280050 I have nf1 I have to deal with it for my rest of my life what can I do to stop the pain
Avatar m tn There were, however, fewer cases with episodes of bradycardia among the NF1 patients than among the controls. This might be explained by vagus nerve involvement. Regards.
Avatar f tn I cannot get a straight answer from anyone other than to quit smoking...which I am working on. I also have NF1. Now...where do I go from here. Is my passing out connectied to this demyelination? Is the NF connected to it. What kind of questions do I need to be asking? Sorry about it being so long...but better too much information than not enough. I am suspecting MS...but as I said, everyone seems resistant in giving me some kind of idea of what is happening to me.
Avatar n tn I have NF1 with several fibromas under my ribs which have become more painful over the last few years some days a 9-10 on the pain scale. I had a neurologist that prescribed Lidoderm patches topical 12 hours on 12 off that were effective. I have new health insurance that won't cover the patches. I went to a new pain management doc that prescribed a cream that works quite well.
Avatar m tn These disorders cause tumors to grow on nerves and produce other abnormalities such as skin changes and bone deformities. Treatments for both NF1 and NF2 are presently aimed at controlling symptoms. Surgery can help some NF1 bone malformations and remove painful or disfiguring tumors> But there is a chance that the tumors may grow back and in greater numbers. Surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy may be done.
Avatar f tn complete loss of NF1 in Schwann cells (rendering them NF1 -/-) and an interaction between NF1 -/- Schwann cells and NF1+/- mast cells. While Schwann cells appear to be the primary tumor causing cell, mast cells appear to stimulate tumor growth by recruiting other cell types and blood vessels to the tumor. "The mast cell inflammatory response appears to be co-opted by the tumor to enhance tumor growth," says Dr. Parada.
Avatar m tn gov/pmc/articles/PMC2951407/ i didn t check the images on this article previously, fig 2 has very interesting data, it shows a decrease of hbsag to 60% by lovastatin i guess using the higest non toxic dose lovastatin decreases only hbsag (no effect on hbvdna) by decreasing cholesterol content of hbsag infectivity of hbv is impared by fusion interference
Avatar f tn The interaction has also been reported in patients receiving atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with other potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and nefazodone. Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.
Avatar n tn How are you? How is your daughter? Cafe au lait spots are pigmented birthmarks that may vary in color from light brown to dark brown. Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Lovastatin and Lovaza for high triglycerides and low LDL levels due to a fatty liver. This past December I pulled a muscle in my back which turned into a muscle spasm. I was prescribed Diclofenac SO EC 50 mg, Skelaxin 800 mg, Tramadol HCL 50 mg. Two days after taking my medications I had a bad reaction with a 103 degree temperature.
Avatar m tn this is an artcle showing hbsag secretion inibition by lovastatin, it was the natural type not the synth like lovastatin in red yeast rice it is an oold article and there has been no followup studies, today we have also the liposomes studies and simvastatin studies but again in vitro only.the only way to know how it works in vivo is try red yest rice or liposomes and measure hbsag because no drug makers are interested in making trials on this http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?
1714912 tn?1308691554 Thank you so much for your reply! I am trying to stay positive and not freak out but you made me feel better! If I can ask one more question. Her spots have very irregular borders (like coast of maine) & all the discriptions of NF1 say that the spots with NF1 are usually shaped like coast of california (smoother edges) is this true?
Avatar m tn ve mentioned this before, but in addition to MS I have another neurological disorder (neurofibromatosis, type 1, or NF1) and degenerative disk disease. The major problem with NF1 is that tumor-like growths, of various sizes, can grow anywhere in the CNS. It has been known for some time that I have some small ones in, what I am told, are “non-strategic” areas of my brain, and several of various sizes growing along the length of my spinal cord.
599170 tn?1300973893 statin without the side effects, in fact, it is the same as lovastatin, but it has not been ruined by running it through a lab and changing its chemical structure. The company, Thorne, in my opinion is the best.
