After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.

I've been taking Lovastatin for 2 months. For the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing aching kidneys and I'm very tired. I had blood work done today for follow up of the drug and notified the doctor that I had this problem. My body temperature is 96.8, which I realize is a bit low, but perhaps normal? In people more vulnerable to bleed, the drug is stopped at least a week before extraction. Post extraction, you can re-start the medication after 24 hours if there has been no bleeding. Based on your follow-up comment, I guess you are assuming that you have Type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1) and Mevacor medication can help you...? I don't have any experience with Mevacor (Lovastatin) in my clinical practice, but read some studies about positive effect of Mevacor re verbal and non-verbal LD in children with NF1.
