Avatar f tn Hi, as such there is no direct co relation of kidney pain with lovastatin which is mainly metabolized through liver. What are the other drugs you are on? Main side effects of lovastatin are myopathy and liver disorder. For more information visit http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/lovastat_ad.htm Wait for blood reports, need to assess kidney function. Also get ultrasound done to rule out any pathology of urinary tract.
Avatar n tn Some people taking statin drugs have experienced these brain-related effects. These effects usually have not been serious and went away when patients stopped using the drugs. Risk of high blood sugar. Risk of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Avatar f tn The interaction has also been reported in patients receiving atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with other potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and nefazodone. Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.
Avatar m tn It seems to me we should wait for the blood test results to see if I really am B12 deficient before having the EMG test. I researched the side effects of Diclofenac, Tramadol and Lovastatin and they all list Paresthesia as a side effect. I've also found that statin drugs increase the likely-hood of getting Peripheral Neuropathy by 16 times. Two days ago I stopped taking Lovastatin to see if my symptoms subside. I am waiting for a call from a nurse from the Neurologist.

And red yeast rice isn't the same as lovastatin. It's not nearly as strong. Natural products are never as strong as the pharmaceutical version. It's why they take longer to work, are usually used in combination, not singly, and why they have such lower negative effects profiles.

Avatar m tn Most of the effects of statins can be explained by pleiotropic effects independent of their lowering of serum cholesterol; in some cases, these effects have been shown to be a result of the role of statins in the prenylation of cellular proteins, some of which are involved in the life cycle of animal viruses.
Avatar f tn This is the exact same thing as a Statin without the dangerous side effects. In fact, it is the main ingredient in Lovastatin, but, the labs have not had a chance to ruin it, therefore, it is safe. I would try this and see how it works, it might be the answer you are looking for.

Avatar m tn gov/pmc/articles/PMC2951407/ i didn t check the images on this article previously, fig 2 has very interesting data, it shows a decrease of hbsag to 60% by lovastatin i guess using the higest non toxic dose lovastatin decreases only hbsag (no effect on hbvdna) by decreasing cholesterol content of hbsag infectivity of hbv is impared by fusion interference

Avatar f tn The risk of any side effect is anywhere between 2% and 5% which classifies this as very safe. Common side effects are muscle pain and sore joints. I would take it and just keep an eye out for anything that may be a side effect. This link will tell you what to look for; http://www.emedicinehealth.com/drug-simvastatin/article_em.
Avatar m tn this is an artcle showing hbsag secretion inibition by lovastatin, it was the natural type not the synth like lovastatin in red yeast rice it is an oold article and there has been no followup studies, today we have also the liposomes studies and simvastatin studies but again in vitro only.the only way to know how it works in vivo is try red yest rice or liposomes and measure hbsag because no drug makers are interested in making trials on this http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?

Avatar m tn Hello, I am not entirely sure what you meant by "Will me actor help me it says it's the cure for nf1"... Based on your follow-up comment, I guess you are assuming that you have Type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1) and Mevacor medication can help you...? I don't have any experience with Mevacor (Lovastatin) in my clinical practice, but read some studies about positive effect of Mevacor re verbal and non-verbal LD in children with NF1.

Avatar m tn First and foremost your father needs to control and manage his diabetes to prevent diabetes side effects. You don't mention what this is, or what his levels are, so I cannot provide suggestions. However, I dislike doctors who dispense drugs like candy instead of finding the cause and cure of the health issue/concern. All drugs have side effects, some nastier than others. I wouldn't be surprised that your father is taking medication to counteract the side effects of a previous drug/s.
Avatar n tn I am 69 and have a calcium score of over 2000. I am on lovastatin and my cholest is 177, hdl 58, ldl 103. I excersize for 45-1hr of light running and walking. 5'10' weighing 160lbs. Has anyone seen these high numbers?
Avatar m tn In each experiment, PERL treatment was more effective than lovastatin and therefore may be better suited for in vivo antiviral therapy. Furthermore, the potential use of PERLs for in vivo treatment of viral infections, as well as the frequent coinfections with the viruses tested here, eventually should include the encapsulation of other antiviral therapies, leading to enhanced treatment efficacy.
Avatar m tn However, my ck has been in the 400-600 range even before taking statins. I am now on lovastatin--since 7 Jul--after stopping zorcor for 7 years. I do suffer from some neuropathy from a corpectomy, and some muscle weakness, I guess with age (70). Still, I don't understand ck/cpk enough to know why I continue the levels I experience. Never knew about the different ck enzymes;however, I have been tested at least for the heart ( as guess brain) with no known affects.
Avatar m tn You don't say what your LDL lipid levels are? however your total cholesterol level isn't too bad. Your HDL is a bit on the low side but there are ways to boost this and exercise is one way. Your triglycerides are very high. Do you have a lot of sugar in your diet? I'm not sure if you need statins, but there are medications to lower trigs which I believe are called fibrates and these also raise HDL.
