I think lovastatin is still used a lot. The drug companies always promote their newer, patented, more expensive drugs by saying they are more effective than the older drugs that are off patent and cheaper, so I tend to take that into account. The manufacturer of a newer drug may quote research to support the promotional argument, but who pays for the research to be done? Generally, it is the manufacturer of the drug that is being promoted.
I've been taking Lovastatin for 2 months. For the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing aching kidneys and I'm very tired. I had blood work done today for follow up of the drug and notified the doctor that I had this problem. My body temperature is 96.8, which I realize is a bit low, but perhaps normal? Could the achiness be due to the Lovastatin? I'm quite concerned about this and have had kidney problems as a child.

I am not entirely sure what you meant by "Will me actor help me it says it's the cure for nf1"... Based on your follow-up comment, I guess you are assuming that you have Type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1) and Mevacor medication can help you...? I don't have any experience with Mevacor (Lovastatin) in my clinical practice, but read some studies about positive effect of Mevacor re verbal and non-verbal LD in children with NF1.
I have high LDL chololesterol and was told I have to take a statin drug. One doctor gave me a RX for Lipitor 20 mg SID. Another doctor gave me a RX for Lovastatin 20 mg SID.
The Lipitor will cost me $130/mo., the Lovastatin will cost $5/mo. Aside from the obvious cost difference, which RX is better? The bottom line is that I really do not want to take a statin at all BUT if I have to take one, I want to take what will work the best at lowering my LDL levels.

it is an oold article and there has been no followup studies, today we have also the liposomes studies and simvastatin studies but again in vitro only.the only way to know how it works in vivo is try red yest rice or liposomes and measure hbsag because no drug makers are interested in making trials on this

With some hiv drugs it says do not ear grapefruit as it will interfere with the drugs efficacy. Although I have not seen this on the list of drug interactions for victrelis or incevek, I was just wondering if anyone knows or has been told by their doctor not to eat them while on treatment. i didn t check the images on this article previously, fig 2 has very interesting data, it shows a decrease of hbsag to 60% by lovastatin i guess using the higest non toxic dose

I'm currently taking Lovastatin and Lovaza for high triglycerides and low LDL levels due to a fatty liver. This past December I pulled a muscle in my back which turned into a muscle spasm. I was prescribed Diclofenac SO EC 50 mg, Skelaxin 800 mg, Tramadol HCL 50 mg. Two days after taking my medications I had a bad reaction with a 103 degree temperature.
All 3 meds mentioned are class C drugs, which means none have been tested on pregnant women, but have shown to cause defomities or problems in laboratory animals. I would strongly think twice about getting pregnant while being on all of these meds. Ask yourself if the benefits out weigh the risks.

I had cholesterol in the mid 300's about fifteen years ago and decided to go on a very tight low cholesterol diet after taking a class, and was able to reduce my total cholesterol about 100 points, and felt that was good enough. I had been told that one can usually reduce the total cholesterol level by 1/3 with very tight diet and exercise controls.
With my first bb i never took a birthing class n i was gonna do it without the epadural too but the pain was so unbearable to where i had to get it!

good article about the use of fluvastatin with hcv, as regards hbv simvastatin and lovastatin are the only statins i have seen studied on hbv (among the two sim at 80mg has the strongest effect)
