Common Questions and Answers about Lovastatin drug

Avatar m tn I think lovastatin is still used a lot. The drug companies always promote their newer, patented, more expensive drugs by saying they are more effective than the older drugs that are off patent and cheaper, so I tend to take that into account. The manufacturer of a newer drug may quote research to support the promotional argument, but who pays for the research to be done? Generally, it is the manufacturer of the drug that is being promoted.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Lovastatin for 2 months. For the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing aching kidneys and I'm very tired. I had blood work done today for follow up of the drug and notified the doctor that I had this problem. My body temperature is 96.8, which I realize is a bit low, but perhaps normal? Could the achiness be due to the Lovastatin? I'm quite concerned about this and have had kidney problems as a child.

Avatar m tn Hello, I am not entirely sure what you meant by "Will me actor help me it says it's the cure for nf1"... Based on your follow-up comment, I guess you are assuming that you have Type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1) and Mevacor medication can help you...? I don't have any experience with Mevacor (Lovastatin) in my clinical practice, but read some studies about positive effect of Mevacor re verbal and non-verbal LD in children with NF1.
Avatar m tn I have high LDL chololesterol and was told I have to take a statin drug. One doctor gave me a RX for Lipitor 20 mg SID. Another doctor gave me a RX for Lovastatin 20 mg SID. The Lipitor will cost me $130/mo., the Lovastatin will cost $5/mo. Aside from the obvious cost difference, which RX is better? The bottom line is that I really do not want to take a statin at all BUT if I have to take one, I want to take what will work the best at lowering my LDL levels.

Avatar f tn The interaction has also been reported in patients receiving atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with other potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and nefazodone. Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.
Avatar f tn Go to the drug manufacturer website. Many of these companies have programs to provide meds to those with limited means at little or no charge. Ranexa is made by Gilead Sciences and Plavix by Bristol-Myers Squibb. Start there, if that doesn't work ask your doctor for other resources, they should be able to help.
Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Lovastatin and Lovaza for high triglycerides and low LDL levels due to a fatty liver. This past December I pulled a muscle in my back which turned into a muscle spasm. I was prescribed Diclofenac SO EC 50 mg, Skelaxin 800 mg, Tramadol HCL 50 mg. Two days after taking my medications I had a bad reaction with a 103 degree temperature.

Avatar m tn In each experiment, PERL treatment was more effective than lovastatin and therefore may be better suited for in vivo antiviral therapy. Furthermore, the potential use of PERLs for in vivo treatment of viral infections, as well as the frequent coinfections with the viruses tested here, eventually should include the encapsulation of other antiviral therapies, leading to enhanced treatment efficacy.
Avatar n tn Examples include excessive lowering of blood pressure with the calcium channel blockers, rhabdomyolysis and the potential for renal impairment with the HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, and adverse pulmonary effects of amiodarone.
Avatar m tn However, my ck has been in the 400-600 range even before taking statins. I am now on lovastatin--since 7 Jul--after stopping zorcor for 7 years. I do suffer from some neuropathy from a corpectomy, and some muscle weakness, I guess with age (70). Still, I don't understand ck/cpk enough to know why I continue the levels I experience. Never knew about the different ck enzymes;however, I have been tested at least for the heart ( as guess brain) with no known affects.
Avatar m tn You don't say what your LDL lipid levels are? however your total cholesterol level isn't too bad. Your HDL is a bit on the low side but there are ways to boost this and exercise is one way. Your triglycerides are very high. Do you have a lot of sugar in your diet? I'm not sure if you need statins, but there are medications to lower trigs which I believe are called fibrates and these also raise HDL.
