Avatar m tn SAMe is integral to all of the specific biosynthetic pathways that Hepatitis C infection alters metabolically. That is no surprise because SAMe is involved in the biosynthetic pathways of over 40 compounds made by our body. The reason for this is because SAMe is the most ready donor for methyl groups among all methyl donors. It is also involved in the transsulfuration pathway, which is important for our physiological antioxidant systems.
Avatar m tn What the study found was that several biosynthetic pathways are disrupted, including the Glutathione pathway, both Phosphatidylcholine pathways (PEMT and CDP-choline), the Methothioadenosine pathway (a native thiol-containg antioxidant system), and Beta oxidation of Fatty acids, including depletion of L-carnitine residues which escort fatty acids to the mitochondria for burning - setting the stage for steatosis, or fatty liver.
Avatar m tn · * HCV hijacks about five or six different biosynthetic pathways so that it can create material for its own life-cycle needs, but the most significant HCV-induced metabolic change is to the Glutathione biosynthetic pathway. HCV induces decreased levels of Glutathione production, and that is bad for Redox homeostasis. HCV-infection also affects the Methothioadenosine biosynthetic pathway, which is a separate and distinct antioxidant system.
1090423 tn?1286287650 Porphyrias are a group of inherited disorders of certain enzymes in the heme biosynthetic pathway. There are various forms like acute or hepatic, which affects the nervous system, causing abdominal pain, vomiting, neuropathy, muscle weakness and seizures. Hallucinations, depression, cardiac arrhythmias, tachycardia etc. cutaneous variety will have photosensitivity, blisters etc. you could have inherited it as a part of family disease.
Avatar m tn After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar m tn Using a fungal metabolite, lovastatin, to block the p21Ras signaling pathway of insulin, we found that lovastatin inhibited the secretion of HBsAg into culture medium in Hep3B cells; however, the involvement of p21Ras-MAPKs was excluded in this effect. The cholesterol depletion from the membrane, leading to the destabilization of rafts, was the mechanism for the lovastatin inhibition of HBsAg secretion. However, lovastatin has no effect on the secretion of infectious viral Dane particles.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Lovastatin for 2 months. For the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing aching kidneys and I'm very tired. I had blood work done today for follow up of the drug and notified the doctor that I had this problem. My body temperature is 96.8, which I realize is a bit low, but perhaps normal? Could the achiness be due to the Lovastatin? I'm quite concerned about this and have had kidney problems as a child.
Avatar m tn pdf good article about the use of fluvastatin with hcv, as regards hbv simvastatin and lovastatin are the only statins i have seen studied on hbv (among the two sim at 80mg has the strongest effect)
1817071 tn?1366228243 Hi, I took Lovastatin 10 mg. for 8 yrs. with no problem. Last Sept. Cardio Dr. wanted my HDL higher. He prescribed Pravastatin 20mg. After taking the Pravastatin for 3 mos. I noticed muscle fatigue and discomfort. I do a Sr. Aerobics class and use 3 lb weights. In the past, I used 5 lbs with no aftereffects. I ache all the time now. Last month, I asked my PCP to prescribe Lovastatin again, since after 6 mos.
Avatar n tn }, Chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer(diagnosed by MRCP), mesenteric ischemia, peritonitis, abdominal aortic dissection and porphyria(a group of inherited or acquired disorders of certain enzymes in the heme biosynthetic pathway; diagnosed by Urine porphobilinogen and delta δ-aminolevulinic acid screening and RBC deaminase assay). Pls discuss these possibilities with your doctor and see if these possibilities have been investigated or not. Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Lipitor (atorvastatin), Lescol (fluvastatin), Mevacor (lovastatin), Altoprev (lovastatin extended-release), Livalo (pitavastatin), Pravachol (pravastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin), and Zocor (simvastatin). Combination products include: Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe). The new labels will warn patients about: Memory loss and mental confusion.
Avatar m tn gov/pmc/articles/PMC2951407/ i didn t check the images on this article previously, fig 2 has very interesting data, it shows a decrease of hbsag to 60% by lovastatin i guess using the higest non toxic dose lovastatin decreases only hbsag (no effect on hbvdna) by decreasing cholesterol content of hbsag infectivity of hbv is impared by fusion interference
Avatar f tn The interaction has also been reported in patients receiving atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with other potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and nefazodone. Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.
Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Lovastatin and Lovaza for high triglycerides and low LDL levels due to a fatty liver. This past December I pulled a muscle in my back which turned into a muscle spasm. I was prescribed Diclofenac SO EC 50 mg, Skelaxin 800 mg, Tramadol HCL 50 mg. Two days after taking my medications I had a bad reaction with a 103 degree temperature.
Avatar m tn this is an artcle showing hbsag secretion inibition by lovastatin, it was the natural type not the synth like lovastatin in red yeast rice it is an oold article and there has been no followup studies, today we have also the liposomes studies and simvastatin studies but again in vitro only.the only way to know how it works in vivo is try red yest rice or liposomes and measure hbsag because no drug makers are interested in making trials on this http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?
Avatar f tn During recent research to try to figure out why I might be having recurrent infections, I found research that said a damaged STAT 1 pathway renders interferon to be ineffective in its job to fight off infections. If one does have damage to the STAT 1 pathway wouldn't that be a determinant as to whether one (with HCV) would respond or not to any interferon treatment?
599170 tn?1300973893 statin without the side effects, in fact, it is the same as lovastatin, but it has not been ruined by running it through a lab and changing its chemical structure. The company, Thorne, in my opinion is the best.
1425157 tn?1311651679 Three different types of tachycardias are associated with accessory pathways. The most common type results from an electric circuit that travels from the atria through the AV node to the ventricles, then backward through an accessory pathway to the atria, and then back through the same circuit over and over again. Because this is a circuit that reenters itself and involves the atria and ventricles, it is referred to as AV reentrant tachycardia.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have same problem with good diet I have total 265, and LDL 196 my doctor prescribe me Lovastatin reduce the risk of heart attack, blood vessel blockage or chest pain. When i took lipitor my cholesterol went up Also I take turmeric, garlic, avoid stress. May you explain what is stains affect liver? perhaps I have same problem doctor do not say me nothing about causes of h. cholesterol.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am not entirely sure what you meant by "Will me actor help me it says it's the cure for nf1"... Based on your follow-up comment, I guess you are assuming that you have Type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1) and Mevacor medication can help you...? I don't have any experience with Mevacor (Lovastatin) in my clinical practice, but read some studies about positive effect of Mevacor re verbal and non-verbal LD in children with NF1.

Avatar m tn Dear Umar Khan, Supraventricular tachycarda (SVT) occurs when there is an extra electrical pathway that connects the top and the bottom of the heart, so that electricity goes down the normal pathway, then comes back up the extra pathway quickly. It causes a fast abnormal heartrate, called a dysrhythmia; SVT is just one of many kinds of dysrhythmias. Although I am not evaluating her myself, so I can’t tell you everything about her prognosis for sure, there are a few things that I can say.
Avatar f tn However, if a premature atrial contraction (PAC) arrives while the fast pathway is still refractory, the electrical impulse will be directed solely down the slow pathway. By the time the premature impulse reaches the end of the slow pathway, the fast pathway is no longer refractory, hence the impulse is permitted to recycle up the fast pathway. This creates an impulse which continually cycles around the two pathways, activating the Bundle of His..
