Avatar f tn Hi, as such there is no direct co relation of kidney pain with lovastatin which is mainly metabolized through liver. What are the other drugs you are on? Main side effects of lovastatin are myopathy and liver disorder. For more information visit http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/lovastat_ad.htm Wait for blood reports, need to assess kidney function. Also get ultrasound done to rule out any pathology of urinary tract.
1817071 tn?1366228243 Also, you may develop muscle aches after any number of years/months/weeks on a statin. You could go back to lovastatin if the HDL numbers achieved are the same. However, you may experience muscle ache with lovastatin too. However, you may also not have muscle aches as you responded well to it. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn The interaction has also been reported in patients receiving atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with other potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents, macrolide antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and nefazodone. Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.
Avatar m tn I'm currently taking Lovastatin and Lovaza for high triglycerides and low LDL levels due to a fatty liver. This past December I pulled a muscle in my back which turned into a muscle spasm. I was prescribed Diclofenac SO EC 50 mg, Skelaxin 800 mg, Tramadol HCL 50 mg. Two days after taking my medications I had a bad reaction with a 103 degree temperature.
Avatar f tn I am unable to lay on either side due to the pain. It is a pain that radiates. It starts out as a low achiness, builds to a low pain, builds to a major pain and then subsides. This happens when I lay on either side. When I turn over to the opposite side it begins to subdside in time with the other side to start. Needless to say it makes sleeping difficult since I'm not a back sleeper. If I sleep on my belly I have to make sure neither outside thigh is being laid on.

Avatar m tn this is an artcle showing hbsag secretion inibition by lovastatin, it was the natural type not the synth like lovastatin in red yeast rice it is an oold article and there has been no followup studies, today we have also the liposomes studies and simvastatin studies but again in vitro only.the only way to know how it works in vivo is try red yest rice or liposomes and measure hbsag because no drug makers are interested in making trials on this http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?
599170 tn?1300973893 I agree with Paxiled's info and just want to add: I think that the medical community is putting WAY too much attention on cholesterol levels .....and too quick to shove everyone on cholesterol lowering drugs! Its an epidemic of people that are borderline high and a little high being put on these meds. I personally think it is rediculous and think the ranges are hoopla. Just my opinion of course. :) I have seen great results with red yeast rice along with a good brand of fish oils.

Avatar m tn Hello, I am not entirely sure what you meant by "Will me actor help me it says it's the cure for nf1"... Based on your follow-up comment, I guess you are assuming that you have Type 1 neurofibromatosis (NF1) and Mevacor medication can help you...? I don't have any experience with Mevacor (Lovastatin) in my clinical practice, but read some studies about positive effect of Mevacor re verbal and non-verbal LD in children with NF1.

Avatar m tn In each experiment, PERL treatment was more effective than lovastatin and therefore may be better suited for in vivo antiviral therapy. Furthermore, the potential use of PERLs for in vivo treatment of viral infections, as well as the frequent coinfections with the viruses tested here, eventually should include the encapsulation of other antiviral therapies, leading to enhanced treatment efficacy.
Avatar m tn However, my ck has been in the 400-600 range even before taking statins. I am now on lovastatin--since 7 Jul--after stopping zorcor for 7 years. I do suffer from some neuropathy from a corpectomy, and some muscle weakness, I guess with age (70). Still, I don't understand ck/cpk enough to know why I continue the levels I experience. Never knew about the different ck enzymes;however, I have been tested at least for the heart ( as guess brain) with no known affects.
Avatar m tn You don't say what your LDL lipid levels are? however your total cholesterol level isn't too bad. Your HDL is a bit on the low side but there are ways to boost this and exercise is one way. Your triglycerides are very high. Do you have a lot of sugar in your diet? I'm not sure if you need statins, but there are medications to lower trigs which I believe are called fibrates and these also raise HDL.
