Avatar f tn I had gastric bypass surgery in 1981. Recently I have been losing weight in leaps and bounds and my dr is afraid I may have blockage down near my stomach and if I'm not better by my next appt, he is going to send my to a Gastroenterologist. See I would eat and then throw up. Today I am fine, but the day is young. I have been taking nausea meds and also cough meds today and they seem to have helped. Could someone help if they have ever had this problem before.
Avatar n tn Normally if it was gastric bypass, the surgery cures gerd . by removing the stomach, there are few cells to produce acid. Question, have you gained weight back at all recently? What type of bypass did you have? There are a couple of different ways they do it.
Avatar f tn This last summer I went on the Keto diet, losing maybe 10 pounds. In my research to find out why I wasn’t losing weight, I found out the thyroid medication I’m on causes weight gain and makes it difficult to lose it. I’m desperate to lose weight. I’m wondering if I would be a candidate for gastric sleeve? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Gastric bypass procedures (GBP) are any of a group of similar operations that first divides the stomach into a small upper pouch and a much larger lower "remaining" pouch and then re-arranges the small intestine to connect to both. Surgeons have developed several different ways to reconnect the intestine, thus leading to several different GBP names.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist has recommended Lithium or Depakote. My biggest concern is the weight gain. I had the Gastric Bypass about 2 1/2 years ago & have had great success, losing 150 pounds. I've been going to therapy/psychiatrists ever since I graduated high school back in 2005 but before that, my emotional issues/behavior were always ignored b/c my parents didn't believe in therapy. I was on various antidepressants for a few years and nothing ever helped me.
Avatar n tn Overall, most people WILL lose weight if they restrict their food enough, so if he is not losing weight then he needs to eat even less. But this does not mean the weight will stay off or even continue to drop. He may need some medication help as well. Talk to your husband about the nutritionist etc, as well as speaking with his doctor about medications that can help(Orlistat and Meridia are both approved for this).
Avatar m tn The main point was, no matter what happens weight-wise, there's something about the surgery all by itself that cures the diabetes. If you compare the risks of having the disease versus having the surgery, it may be worth it.
Avatar f tn Before they do a surgery like gastric bypass you have to loose a certain amount of weight before they will work on you. My mom had it done about 5 years ago and she was on a strict diet plan..its expensive and I believe with diet and exercise you can achieve the same results..
Avatar n tn I am considering gastric bypass surgery and was wondering how u r doing now if u resolved ur trouble with highs after meals. wondering if u ever have trouble with lows.
611067 tn?1458591483 He thinks that maybe there is something wrong near the connection sites from my gastric bypass. So, he has me scheduled for an endoscope on Nov. 11th. But, I've decided to keep eating the way I've been because I have more energy and I'm losing more weight!!! I've lost 14 lbs. already!!! The bad news today was that for my chronic pain I am not allowed to use ibuprofen or exedrine or aspirin at all anymore!!! It's dangerous following the gastric bypass.
939489 tn?1260887943 Hi I have been looking for posts of women whom have had gastric bypass and are now or have been pregnant in the past. I had gastric bypass over three years ago and I am now pregnant. I would love to find a group or forum where i can talk to women who are willing to share their experiences. Personally, i would like to know if anyone whom had the surgery has gone through any of the things I am currently experiencing.
Avatar f tn And then perhaps you will go back to the eating habits pre baby and be able to maintain the weight again. Can you talk to the office that performed the gastric bypass? Working with them AND your ob may be the best thing.

553970 tn?1215380533 im going for a gastric by pass surgury and having the roulon roux, how long does it take to clear my system from nicotine, and what are the complications of it?
778037 tn?1377986200 Primary care ordered an upper GI series, which revealed esophogeal dysmotility and either an ulcer, spasm or scar tissue in my stomach pouch. (I had roux en y gastric bypass in July 2011). The pain has gotten so bad in the past month (especially these past few days) that I can barely eat. No matter what I eat or drink, bland as it may be, my stomach hurts and bloats up. Sitting up at my desk at work makes it hurt the worst. Lying down and getting up make it better.
548476 tn?1214707282 Rosey, I have posted a few studies that show why your doctor is suggesting weight loss. If he has recommended gastric bypass there may be several reasons for this. Firstly, you are probably morbidly overweight and the bypass would allow you to lose weight at a much faster rate than conventional weight loss programs and this would allow you to start treatment as soon as your weight reaches an acceptable level.
907729 tn?1244174363 I am a 41yr old female I have Type II diabetes, hypothyroid, and I have heart disease and heart failure. I am severely obese and have tried many diets and also exercise.. I have been overweight most of my life. I need to loose weight for my health. I need to get heart sugery, but they won't do it based on my weight. I want to know if I would qualify for the gastric bypass surgery.

1644823 tn?1330055975 Gastric Bypass Surgery curing diabetes in obese people has been bouncing around since 2004. When people with gastric bypass regain their weight, and some of them do, their diabetes comes right back. The so-called curable part is with OBESE people having 35 to >40 BMI, their diabetes being mainly caused by their obesity. GBS does not guaranty diabetes reversal nor can it be considered a cure. That is why GBS does not apply to people like yourself or anyone with a normal BMI of 21.5.
Avatar m tn Im six years out from a true gastric bypass. I have kept my weight off and have done well. I've had lots of problem with my legs though. I had two knee replacements last year. Because of a lack of ability to take any NSAIDS, I ended up on methadone and narco. Now I'm trying to get off of it all. I would love to take one of those Aleve. Every time I take something, even if it's with nexium or prevacid, my stomach hurts. I feel really hungry and it starts a carbohydrate cycle.
Avatar f tn Many people have the mistaken notion that doing something to lower their BG is a cure for diabetes. in your case it was losing weight by gastric bypass. gain the weight back and so does diabetes. in essence you controlled your diabetes by controlling your weight. As you now know for some controlling weight can control diabetes for many control their diabetes by controlling their diet. carbohydrates raise BG ALL carbs raise BG whole wheat will raise your BG.
Avatar f tn Hello I'm new to this forum. I was diagnosed with PCOS several years ago. I began gaining weight when I began my menstual cycle when I was 8 years old. I gained 70 pounds within 5 months and by the time I was 12 years old I was at 260 pounds. I am now 27 years old and at 368 pounds. I have tried everything to lose weight. I've been on Metformin for over 3 years now, eat a 1500 calorie, low carb diet, exercies, and nothing.

Avatar f tn I have a cousin that had a wealth of health issues and was quite obese. She had gastric bypass surgery and lost over 100 pounds and her type 2 diabetes was gone as was her high blood pressure. This article is from a well known hospital and they state that losing weight when obese does indeed reverse some of the cardiovascular issues someone may have due to obesity. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.
