Avatar f tn It took me about 3 weeks to wean off my beta blockers. My beta blocker was a very strong one, and I was only on 1.25mg, so halving this was impossible. The pills were tiny and couldn't be cleanly broken. I had to increase the time between each pill instead. First I went to one every 48 hours and after a week, every 3 days. After managing one pill every 4 days I could finally stop and it felt great.
Avatar f tn I am not really familiar with losartan, but if it falls in the family of blood presure medications known as beta blockers it certainly can be the cause of your cough. Ace inhibitors have a much lower risk of causing the cough, and most people who have problems with beta blockers do well on them. I hope that helps you a little. God bless.
Avatar f tn Losartan is not a beta blocker. Instead it is an ARB. By blocking the action of angiotensin, losartan relaxes muscle cells and dilates blood vessels, reducing blood pressure. It can cause nasal congestion and persistent cough, Since you have both the cough and leg swelling, you should ask to try another bp medication. There are other types.
Avatar n tn I am on Losartan 50 mg sice last few years, Sometime my BP goes berserk ranging from 150-160/90-105. I used to combine atenolo 25 mg and it used to be normal. Now since 5 days back I forgot to take Losartan at my usual time in morning, but took it in evening. What happened that my BP is not cominh down, I take metprolol 25 mg in morning and after an hour or so BP becomes more or less normal but start rising after 9pm and in the morning ranges the same as mentioned earlier.
1210142 tn?1266077031 Stopped Lisinopril for a little bit and felt much better- unfortunately my blood pressure went a little up. Then my PCP substitute it for Losartan- have been taking this drug/25 mg/ for a week and feel extremely dizzy and nauseated. The cardiologist suggested to cut Carvbedilol in half/so now I am taking 3.125 twice a day instead of 6.25 and my chest pain almost disapear. I don't know if Losartan can cause this or just switching drugs my body needs more time...?
Avatar m tn My 93 y/o Mom just had a stress test and echo. They show a 52% LVEF but a small infarct area at the bottom of the heart. She has no obvious symptoms but her cardiologist has put her on a new regimen of 4 meds (statin, Plavix, losartan, metoprolol)... which she finds terribly overwhelming. My question is ... why both losartan (an Angiotensin II) and metoprolol (a beta blocker)? Don't they both do the same thing by lowering blood pressure and opening up the coronary arteries?
Avatar n tn t know of an association of Marfans with hypothyroidism. Beta blockers may retard the progression of aortic root dilatation as well as good blood pressure control. Control of the sleep apnea tends to lead to better blood pressure control so this is important.
Avatar n tn Beta-1 and Beta-2. Those in the heart are mostly Beta-1; those in the lungs, mostly Beta-2. Beta-blockers come in 2 forms: selective and non-selective. Selective beta-blockers, such as metoprolol, act primarily on the Beta-1 receptors in the heart. Non-selective beta-blockers, such as propranolol act on both types of receptors, in both heart and lungs. Propranolol and other medicines in its class are capable of evoking bronchospasm in people with asthma.
Avatar n tn Connective tissue weakness appears to be at play in severe myopia in Marfan patients. As you may be aware, there has been enormous excitement in the Marfan community lately based on research originating at Johns Hopkins using ARBs (and in some studies, ACEi's) like losartan to reduce TGF-b signalling and thus arresting or even reversing aortic dilatation.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Losartan 25mg in the morning and 25 metoprolol succinate ER in the evening. My BP in the morning always ranges from 120/70 to 130/80 and evening it goes upto anywhere between 140/80 to 150/90 and some times even 160/100(rarely- but had readings like that). My HR in the morning is aroung 70 BPM and increases to around 90 in the evening.
Avatar m tn t have problems with heart rate (usually between 70 and 80 during the day and around 60 in the morning) before taking beta blocker I usually had quite high HR (approximately 90) I'm writing all this because it seems that I started to suffer from "Erectile Dysfunction"or at least everything seems to be pretty much different than before. Behavior has been changing during period of taking drug.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with high blood pressure in 2006 and is taking 50 mg of losartan every day to control the BP. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in 2014.
Avatar m tn I'm 22 just diagnosed with hypertension. My cardiologist prescribed me losartan today I was wondering if this is a good recommended Bp medicine mine runs typically 150-160/90-95. Thanks, hope I can get some input!
Avatar n tn A drug known for lowering blood pressure, losartan, has shown great promise to stop or even reverse fibrosis in Hep C patients The link is www.ihealthbulletin.

Avatar f tn I have very High Blood Pressure which responds to losartan which reduces tgf beta 1. TGF Beta 1 is one of the bad players in inflammation. I also have thyroid inflammation, sarcopenia, bone spurs and nevi, ovarian cysts, fibroids all related to tgf beta 1. Just google to find out. I have had multiple infections and electric shocks in my legs which went away after taking B12. Splenda caused a recent episode where every joint in my body aches and my blood pressure skyrocketed.
1116669 tn?1269143266 Based on reports of a hepatoprotective effect of coffee consumption, we were the first to provide evidence that caffeine suppresses transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta dependent and -independent CTGF expression in hepatocytes in vitro and in vivo, thus suggesting this xanthine-alkaloid as a potential therapeutic agent.
Avatar m tn Is the Atenolol suitable, or should I request another beta blocker? Likewise, is there a better diuretic than Chlortalidone? I keep reading about Coreg and & Demadex. Are these better options? Cozaar: They initially wanted to put me on Lisinopril, but I was on that previously and I had a terrible, nagging cough the entire time. I've read that ACE Inhibitors are preferable to ARBs, though, when it comes to CHF.
Avatar m tn I have present LVH last measured 6 years ago at 15mm and hypertension present currently on beta blocker, losartan and clonidine. I have been getting arrhythmias recently that feel like ectopic beats but I’m worried they could be ventricular arrhythmias which could be more serious. I workout 3-4 days a week and recently saw my doctor which wants me to do a holster monitor and echo in two weeks (after it clears my insurance). Anyone had similar issues?
Avatar f tn Ugh, I hate a lingering cough. Couple of things come to mind. First, coughs can last a long time. Once the airway and bronchial tubes get irritated, they take a while to get better. So the least little thing will cause a coughing jag (exertion, changing position to lay down, etc.). It can happen that it takes 2 months to get over a cough because of this. But there are other things to consider. You can get a type of asthma related to having been sick and this airway irritation.
Avatar f tn My mother is diagnose with unstable angina a month a ago and the doctor asked us to monitor her blood pressure since she is discharged from the hospital her blood pressure is always normal but there are sometimes that her bp is 100/50 and last day her bp is 120/40 she is 71 years old and taking medications such as norvasc. lipitor, aspirin, imdur or ISMN and losartan. Please help me is it normal for her age? Thank you...
Avatar m tn Also consider that the increase in cancer includes the general population that has normal levels of TGF-beta; for someone with aneurysm and possibly increased levels of TGF-beta, the risk of cancer is theoretically still less than the normal, general population. Compare that with the risk of aortic dissection/rupture when your aorta is very large, and make an educated decision.
Avatar n tn He has now started me on a beta blocker toprol 25mg daily even thought my hr is usually less than 60 and bp 110/60. He told me no weight lifting of any kind but states i can do as much areobics as wanted. should i be seen by cardiologist and have ct or mri. when do i get worried about the size?
Avatar n tn Yes, I have a history of SVT (supra ventricular tachycardia). I have had 2 ablations to treat it. My last surgery was in 2012 and my heart has been fine. My cardiologist felt my heart was still beating too fast so he put me on Carvedilol and I've been on it since then - it helped me feel much better as far as my heart rate. Now that I have been fainting, my Cardiologist decided to try switching my Carvedilol to Toprol XL and he wants me to try the Florinef.
Avatar m tn t know one from the other. I only know what a beta blocker is. Which I was taking for years and years but now have stopped in order to see if I can wake up. Having terrible problems with falling asleep and being drowsy all the time.
Avatar n tn I have been telling people on these boards for a long time to investigate angiotensin receptor-blocker (ARB) (any ARB except losartan is preferable) or ACE-inhibitor (ACE-i) (perindopril is the only one I know of that really works) therapy with a cardiologist at a major medical center/university who is UP TO DATE on the latest research.
Avatar m tn m male, 22 years old, 6,3 220 pounds athletic build, and I have currently been taking 100mg losartan/hctz 25mg for hypertension about 7 months ago. Since I have been on this medicine I have experienced skipped/extra beats when I exert myself in exercise. It's very troubling because I stop myself every time because I feel like I may be over doing it. The thing is I never had this happen before I started the meds. I also feel my pulse all over like in temples, head, back, legs.....
