I don't think losartan is the best ARB, but it's the one being used in the current studies. All ARBs seem to work, some better than others. Efficacy is usually dose-dependent.

I am on Losartan 50 mg sice last few years, Sometime my BP goes berserk ranging from 150-160/90-105. I used to combine atenolo 25 mg and it used to be normal. Now since 5 days back I forgot to take Losartan at my usual time in morning, but took it in evening. What happened that my BP is not cominh down, I take metprolol 25 mg in morning and after an hour or so BP becomes more or less normal but start rising after 9pm and in the morning ranges the same as mentioned earlier.
I am currently on Lisinopril to keep my BP down (I have Cardiomyopathy after going into CHF from a virus that went to my heart). I have had a cough which is a side effect of Lisinopril. My doctor just gave me a RX for Losartan but this med is more expensive by quite a bit. I haven't had any other problems with Lisinopril besides the cough and I am scared to change meds and take the chance of worse side effects.
m male, 22 years old, 6,3 220 pounds athletic build, and I have currently been taking 100mg losartan/hctz 25mg for hypertension about 7 months ago. Since I have been on this medicine I have experienced skipped/extra beats when I exert myself in exercise. It's very troubling because I stop myself every time because I feel like I may be over doing it. The thing is I never had this happen before I started the meds. I also feel my pulse all over like in temples, head, back, legs.....

That is an excellent question. Leg cramps are often caused by what is called intermittant claudication, which is related to blood circulation. A pacemaker may limit blood circulation under certain circumstances. Unlikely, but not impossible. Speak to your cardiologist about this. They question is not that silly. He need a color dopplar of his legs to evaluate circulatory status, to keep well-hydrated, and excercise regularly, walking as much as possible.

His averaged blood pressure is 146/80. He was placed on losartan potassium (50 mg) for 8 days but there is no change to his averaged blood pressure. Would you advice him continuing losartan or seek new drugs? Many thanks.

I would wonder if the sound issue is not related to a bit of anxiety. I'm not really seeing anything in the literature to support what you describe with retards to sound being louder but sensory experiences can be affected whenever our nervous system is not regulated.
My GP put me on Lisinopril last year but switched me to Losartan after the Lisinopril failed to help. The Losartan brought my BP down a lot with a 50 mg daily dose. I was down to 110/70 and even 100/65 at times. I even got light-headed when I stood up quickly. The GP said this was normal and good. He likes my BP to be well below 120/80.
So far so good. I was getting the Losartan from Walgreens as a 30 day supply.
Thanks very much for the information. I'm currently taking 20 mg of lisinopril to reduce stress on the aortic root. My blood pressure is usually about 110 over 68. My internist has suggested switching from lisinopril to losartan since a New England Journal of Medicine article (June 26, 2008) reported better management of root diameter with an ARB. My cardiologist is less willing to make the switch since my root diameter has been stable at 3.8 cm for a few years.
I was on losartan for a few months. I don't think that my bp was consistenlty high. I think what was going on was that it was very up and down and it was making me feel pretty bad. But losartan which is a third line for bp was the first thing that they put me on. And I don't think my bp was that bad. I have had elevated renin/aldosterone studies and low potassium in the past.
I have been on Losartan for approximately eight months come here recently I have found it very difficult to swallow my food and seems like he gets caught in my esophagus, yesterday at two different Meals I began to choke on my food I had to drink several glasses of water in order to get my food to go down with no issues. Could this be a side effect of Losartan?
In the meantime L-Arginine in three divided doses of 2-3 grams will assist. Consult with your physician about prescribing Losartan, even if your blood pressure is in order. Low-dose Losartan will relax the vasculature. You don't need more than 5 mg. It cause a systemic increase in body capacitance. Meantime take D3 supplements and alpha-omega fish oils supplements.
People often take sleeping meds and anti depressants that have hcv or are treating. I don't know a lot about the lisinoprill, but I read about a small study that Losartan (for high blood pressure) may reverse fibrosis.
Your doctor should know about your hcv and your meds, especially if you are treating.
