Losartan onset of action

Common Questions and Answers about Losartan onset of action

cozaar

Avatar m tn I am taking Losartan, which is the generic of Cozaar. Like Benicar (which is not available in generic yet, I believe) it is an angiotensin II inhibitor. There are usually very few side effects associated with these drugs, but their action on the biochemistry of the body is complex, so anything is possible. I have Hashimoto's disease, which means I am HYPOthyroid. Before the Losartan, I was taking 90 mgs of Armour (which is T3 AND T4) daily.
Avatar f tn Losartan is not a beta blocker. Instead it is an ARB. By blocking the action of angiotensin, losartan relaxes muscle cells and dilates blood vessels, reducing blood pressure. It can cause nasal congestion and persistent cough, Since you have both the cough and leg swelling, you should ask to try another bp medication. There are other types.
Avatar n tn I tried to talk to my husbands P.A. about Losartan (Cozaar) and she just kind of blew me off. If we actually got to see the Dr., he would probably discuss it with us but she doesn't even want to hear about it. Joe has esophageal varicies and Nadolol is what they think is best. I read a study that showed an increase in platelets and albumin levels and subjects with liver disease. I will be watching the news on this.
363682 tn?1299489362 My medication currently involves Losartan, Bisoprolol, Atorvastatin, Citalopram and Omeprazole and has been the same since well before these incidents. The only thing that did change was an increase in dose of the Losartan from 20mgs. to 50mgs.in December '10. Apparently, suspicion has now fallen on the possibility that the latter is now causing periodic postular hypotension.
Avatar m tn I have no idea if this has anything to do with the problem, but it coincided with the onset of my symptoms. I developed vertigo. I was first diagnosed with BPPV and sent for Epley maneuvers. When these didn't help, I underwent a video nystagmogram which was read as normal. The symptoms persisted along with intermittent headaches. General lab work including workup for autoimmune disease was negative as were MRIs of the brain and neck and carotid dopplers.
Avatar m tn Losartan is a really good drug with few side effects. 50 mg is not a high dose. It should not be causing any of the problems you mention. Ask your doctor.
Avatar m tn //www.drugs.com/sfx/losartan-side-effects.html Uncommonly, ear congestion and hearing loss occur. But you are describing hypersensitivity. Losartan is associated for some with tremor. I would wonder if the sound issue is not related to a bit of anxiety. I'm not really seeing anything in the literature to support what you describe with retards to sound being louder but sensory experiences can be affected whenever our nervous system is not regulated.
Avatar m tn His averaged blood pressure is 146/80. He was placed on losartan potassium (50 mg) for 8 days but there is no change to his averaged blood pressure. Would you advice him continuing losartan or seek new drugs? Many thanks. Avatar n tn There are ones that have different times of day as well as the days of the week. I recommend you get one from you local pharmacy and lay out your blood pressure medication in it for each day. That way, like a parent of mine has done, you can look at your container and discover whether or not you forgot to take your pill.
Avatar m tn I am having a very difficult time w dry mouth and sometimes feel like I cannot swallow either
1008841 tn?1293598960 rank=1 I don’t know if a letter to the principals of this study would yield any information about either the efficacy or availability of future trials.
Avatar m tn t even handle taking the full dose so I would split in half and be fine for a while because whne I would try to go off of it my bp would get high. I finally decided that the more I took of it the more I couldn't tolerate: feeling like I was going to pass out, leg cramps, chest pain. And not that it's been two months I think it's still working in my system. My bp is still low.
Avatar n tn Tests on their livers revealed that, before treatment with losartan, half of the patients had a high level of the biomarker NF-kB. After treatment, the level fell indicating that losartan is able to switch off NF-kB with the result that scars are no longer produced or maintained, but instead shrink.
16467414 tn?1448304929 I had been drinking a few Ensure that day and taken multivitamins. Both of which had higher levels of potassium in them, and when I took my Losartan, not even 10 minutes later I felt like I was dying. I ended up passing out, very lucky I didn't die. Be careful with that stuff! Even things like Powerade and Gatorade, anything that has electrolytes in it will probably have potassium! And you won't realize you've had too much until it's too late.
Avatar n tn You need to have a neurological consult and request a flicker test. There is a unique form of epilepsy that only manifests itself when there is flicker, such as watching the rotating blades of a fan or seeing telephone poles whiz rapidly by. It isn't the Losartan. The inexpensive test, which is definitive, involves a technician exposing you to a wide range of flicker stimuli. The exact etiology is unknown.
Avatar m tn m interested in hearing from anybody who has had similar symptoms, or a similar course of action before getting a diagnosis. I have never really heard of tinnitis or vertigo being symptoms of MS, and those are the main reasons I even started pursuing medical help to begin with. The doctors have ruled out some explanations (like the acoustic neuroma), but there are still other possibilities on the table (Meniere's disease, or even high blood pressure for example).
Avatar n tn It kind of sounds like a form of Action tremors, but I have to agree with mkh9.
Avatar f tn After a month of anti-tb medications, my cough still persists, my doctor then prescribed diflucan 150 thinking that I might have a fungal infection aside from tb. i just had 2 caps of diflucan but I now suspect that losartan is the culprit since I am taking it for more than a year now. I came across its adverse effect as I searched for the answer of my persistent cough. Is my suspicion right?
2009161 tn?1327915695 My mom was treated with By pass surgery recently and she has been shown that there is calcium lesion that has been there in one of her heart arteries, Is it because of these tablets(Losartan Potasium). Please help me clarify this Doctor.
Avatar f tn I did just find something that was interesting. The link, in the case you would want to read more, is http://www.theheart.org/article/1384629.do. I am taking the following out of the whole to publish here as I feel there might be some reassurance to others in this information as this doctor is supposed to be a renowned hypertension expert. In an interview, Dr Norman Kaplan (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas) agreed.
Avatar m tn So, avoiding beta blockers is a plus with your pulse rate, and the losartan your doctor picked is in a different class of blood pressure lowering medication. How's it working out so far? Do you drink caffeine, eat a lot of chocolate, smoke, take pseudophedrine for allergies, have a lot of stress in your life?
