Losartan in heart failure

Common Questions and Answers about Losartan in heart failure

cozaar

Avatar m tn t have heart failure secondary to ischemic heart disease (ie blockages in the heart -- the normal stress test argues against this). The same is true for statins -- if your cholesterol is okay and you don't have evidence of coronary disease or other risk factors (diabetes, stroke, etc) then you don't need a statin. Vasodilators are sometimes used on top of ACEI/ARB and beta blocker but aren't always indicated.
1210142 tn?1266077031 since I had MI but not heart failure- is is absolutely necessary to take beta blockers? One of the doctors ordered renin test and the results came today quite high- 28.2, the ratio though is ok.
Avatar m tn 92 year old female had been previously diagnose with right sided heart failure some 4-5 years ago. Though mostly asymptomatic with just occasional rises in BP, her main problem is her severely swelling feet. She's on antihypertensive (amlodepine) and low dose hydrochlorthiazide. Her BUN, creatinine, SGOT, SGPT, sodium and potassium were taken and they were all normal, thus she was started with aldactone 2 weeks ago.
Avatar m tn im currently seeing a different heart doc who changed my bumetinine to spironolactone my ef went to 20% in sep 2015 heart failure under control left ventricle has shrunk a little does anyone know anything about losartan if heard it was good at shrinking left ventricle faster than most other meds any info would be very appreciated thank you
Avatar m tn I have had an heart failure due to high chotesterol so I am on medication for Hipertension/ High Cholesterol. I recent weeks after I start using Co-Diovan 160/12.5 mg in place of Hyzar I am experiencing a gradual tightening in the upper chest toward the neck/throat and it is as if i may stop breathing? I am not sure if the change in medication has anything to do with it! I use to to exercise for about 30 min. or more each day, I can do only 2-3 mins. and with great difficulty?
Avatar m tn Will this lower my life expectancy? uncontrolled hypertension can lead to many things such as stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney problems, and more so yes, if not controlled, hypertension can lower your life expectancy 3. Can this explain my erectile dysfunction? Yes.
Avatar m tn Your BNP is low/normal, suggesting your heart is not overloaded with fluid and the intracardiac pressures are not too high. Your medications may relieve some of the pressure in your heart causing the BNP to be within normal limits, but they will not falsely lower it.
Avatar m tn Ok, confused, worried stressed and tired of this all at the same time. I have been suffering now for 5 years! It all started with problems wtih my potassium and then by BP being erratic and Heart symptoms. Finally had someone willing to invesigate a little more Idopathic hyperaldosteronism? Went on losartan last year. It really messed me up. I think it did something to my tissues and blood vessels because I had massive inflammation after taking it this summer.
Avatar f tn The preclinical and acute stages are usually reversible when alcohol abuse is discontinued, except in cases of sudden congestive heart failure or acute heart muscle degeneration. Your medication treats high blood pressure and stablizes the heart rate. That is the same treatment I was given. A reduction in blood pressure will help to reduce the heart's workload...
2009161 tn?1327915695 My mom was treated with By pass surgery recently and she has been shown that there is calcium lesion that has been there in one of her heart arteries, Is it because of these tablets(Losartan Potasium). Please help me clarify this Doctor.
16467414 tn?1448304929 Did your doctor mention to avoid high levels of potassium while taking Losartan? Too much potassium is called Hyperkalemia and it can be extremely deadly if not treated. I am trying to come off Atenolol after 7 years and a few weeks ago a doctor put me on Losartan Potassium and did not tell me that though I asked if I should avoid anything. I found out what Hyperkalemia does to you the hard way. It can kill you if levels are very high, almost did me in!
Avatar m tn Also kidney problems can due this my mother is 63 and sufford pain everywhere for yes just found out this yr she is in 3 stage failure also diabetes does this
Avatar m tn So, avoiding beta blockers is a plus with your pulse rate, and the losartan your doctor picked is in a different class of blood pressure lowering medication. How's it working out so far? Do you drink caffeine, eat a lot of chocolate, smoke, take pseudophedrine for allergies, have a lot of stress in your life?
Avatar f tn This spell lasted about 15 minutes, fast heart rate. Should the Losartan have stepped in where the Metoprolol left off and kept me from having a rebound effect? Can anyone comment on this or offer me any advice?
Avatar m tn m on Bp meds losartan 50 mg...my heart echo an stress test in march of this ur was ok too. Should I be worried? Also can't understand my cardiologist too well.
Avatar n tn I do not want to take a bp med, i read that potassium bicarbonat, and bananas, are just as beneifical as taking Losartan ,I know it sounds silly, but I just do not want to take any more meds. I have been doing fine for 5 years after stents, take fish oil capsules, magnesium and vitamin d, recently started 5 htp, don't all these help to keep my arteries from blocking anymore?also take other supplements like co-q 10, b complex.
Avatar m tn I am taking Losartan, which is the generic of Cozaar. Like Benicar (which is not available in generic yet, I believe) it is an angiotensin II inhibitor. There are usually very few side effects associated with these drugs, but their action on the biochemistry of the body is complex, so anything is possible. I have Hashimoto's disease, which means I am HYPOthyroid. Before the Losartan, I was taking 90 mgs of Armour (which is T3 AND T4) daily.
Avatar m tn Dear Doctor, Thanks for your valuable reply. I'm taking blood pressure med in 2 times ( Losartan Potassium, Amlodipine). milk thistle can bad Interaction with these medicine pls?
Avatar m tn Hi thanks in advance for taking time to read this short question, and god bless! I'm 22 year old male, cardiologist currently has me taking 100mg losartan/hctz 25mg. I'm not over weight I've played sports all my life, I don't smoke or drink, I eat decently healthy, but I cant seem to keep my systolic number down...exercise doesn't seem to help either. My top numbers stay 130's-150's throughout the day. Bottom numbers are about 60'-80...averages 75....
Avatar n tn I don't know much about heart disease or high blood pressure but let me tell you a couple things I know about this medication. Lisinopril is used to control high blood pressure and water retention. Too strong of a dosage can cause diarrhea which can cause potassium to drop low. Losartan - potassium (Cozarr) is used to control hypertension and might be a better fit for your daughters condition as the side effects are similar. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Everything I read online about hypertension makes it seem like a life ending sentence to death by heart failure or coronary heart disease. I try and get some exercises almost everyday I don't always eat the healthiest but never eat a lot of junk but my numbers don't budge much they still say closer to the same. I don't see my cardiologist until February 2014.
Avatar f tn Fortunately the incidence of aortic dissection or tearing is lower in these patients than it is in patients with Marfan syndrome. Unfortunately we do not know what the true incidence of adverse outcomes is with the bicuspid aortic valve population, so all we can do is extrapolate to patients with Marfans (a much different disease). That being said, what is most important is the rate of change in the size of the aorta on an annual basis.
973741 tn?1342342773 I have been taking Lisinopril for decades and switched to Losartan in July. Personally I would take a controlled reading of around 130/80 for me as acceptable.
