My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic.
I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Blood pressure is 180 mmHg (high pressure) / 100 mmHg(low pressure). The doctor gave Losartan　Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets. The blood pressure is then controlled to 107~135 mmHg(high pressure) / 65~80 mmHg(low pressure).
In 2015: My mother suddenly felt dizzy and she was found that her blood pressure jumped to 80~90 mmHg(high pressure) / 50 mmHg(low pressure). Then the doctor asked her to stop taking any blood pressure control medicine.
Her heart is examined OK.
It is essentially the same as Hyzaar which contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Losartan is also in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Losartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow which is exactly how Diovan works.
My new VA doctor wants to change one of my blood pressure medications from 160 mg of Valsartan 2 times per day to an equivalent dose of 100 mg of Losartan but only once per day. My blood pressure has been controlled for years with typical readings around 118/70 using the Valsartan, Amlodipine 5mg, and a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide 25mg). I have not made the change yet.

Losartan is not a beta blocker. Instead it is an ARB. By blocking the action of angiotensin, losartan relaxes muscle cells and dilates blood vessels, reducing blood pressure. It can cause nasal congestion and persistent cough,
Since you have both the cough and leg swelling, you should ask to try another bp medication. There are other types.
Often medication takes time for the body to adjust and side effects are no longer an issue, and sometimes the dosage is reduced until the dosage for the individual is effective without side effects.

Increased heart rate, restlessness etc can be due to Hyzaar. Yes, there are many other drugs besides hydrochlorothiazide and losartan (Hyzaar) which can be taken for high blood pressure. Please ask your doctor to change Hyzaar, maybe increase the frequency or dose of Atenelol as it was suiting you.
However, please do not make any changes yourself. Buy a home recording BP instrument and keep a check on your daily blood pressure in the morning and evening.

I don't know much about heart disease or high blood pressure but let me tell you a couple things I know about this medication. Lisinopril is used to control high blood pressure and water retention. Too strong of a dosage can cause diarrhea which can cause potassium to drop low.
Losartan - potassium (Cozarr) is used to control hypertension and might be a better fit for your daughters condition as the side effects are similar.

All the handouts say that if you are taking hydrochlorothiazide ("water pill") to advise your doctor and the lab techs about this since it will affect thyroid test results.
Have tried to research this - but have come up empty thus far. Will try to consult a local pharmacist tomorrow.
Am wondering since in labs done less than 3 weeks apart I went from high TSH (11.7) to low TSH (0.03). Primary care manager said it MUST have been due to me missing a synthroid dose.

Diet:
Primarily low-protein vegan diet with minimal dairy and infrequent meat (few times a week).
Possible triggers to current protein issue:
Pneumonia episode 2-3 years ago.
Intense stress over a long period of time from a senior design class 2 years ago.
These drugs, already on the market for treating hypertension, have been shown to stabilize and in many cases (like mine) reduce aortic root diameters, depending on the dosage you take. The studies generally indicate that the higher the dosage (at least maximum FDA-approved dosage or higher), the better the results. Sufficient dosage is key; if you don't take enough of the drug, you will get no results.
Also I should add that even on 3! Count it 3! Blood pressure medications Toprol XL 25, Losartan Potassium 100mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg I am still averaging high blood pressure readings 140-150/80 . When I went to the hospital with the shortness of breath it had climbed to 190/100 and at that time I was on only the HCTZ and the Toprol.

im using captopril tablet 2months ago i take 2x daily each tablet 25mg,, i felt some xtra palpitation on my heart . and my doctor give me a new medicine aldomet 250mg 2x daily,and amiloridehcl-hydrochlorothiazide. is this good subtitute for the captopril. i am thingking why they give me 250mg,but when im taking captopril 25mg is less dosage but i fell bad.
I was on Losartan 50mg which was working fairly well then the nephrologist suggested I switch to Amlodipine 2.5 mg. which he says is better for creatinine levels. I had been taking Amlodipine for a few weeks and BP rose. Doctor has increased to 5 mg. Not sure how long it will take to reduce BP. Has anyone any experience with Amlodipine? How is it? Any adverse side effects?
and 145 lbs and still not done growing. His Dr. is communicating with Dr. Dietz at Johns Hopkins in regards to Losartan. Does anyone have any input on this drug with a teen? Or does anyone have a child in this type of situation? Any input would be comforting to me.
Hallo there -anyone and everyone. Is there any reasons to prefer or take losartan above olmesartan or the olmesartan above losartan. Person taking these is african, 57 years, female and oh, my mother.
His averaged blood pressure is 146/80. He was placed on losartan potassium (50 mg) for 8 days but there is no change to his averaged blood pressure. Would you advice him continuing losartan or seek new drugs? Many thanks.
