Side effects reported included diarrhea, muscle cramps, dizziness, insomnia, and nasal congestion. Losartan also may cause a persistent cough, increase serum potassium, impotence, and angioedema. Losartan may reduce kidney function in some patients and should not be used by patients who have bilateral renal artery stenosis (narrowing of both arteries going to the kidneys). Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown) have been reported.
Losartan is not known to have many side effects. I've been taking it for a few months with no problems.
Have you had any other medication changes? Do you take any statins for cholesterol issues?

My mother has had hypertension for about 10 years now, but her measurements weren't as high and she gets it from being obese.
Hair loss can also be due to dandruff, dermatitis, shampoos, oils, soaps, dust and dirt etc. Thyroid disorders and diabetes too could be a cause. I have experienced excessive anxiety, agitation and sound sensitivity when (accidentally) double dosing Losartan. Long story, but I (for possibly weeks) was taking 200mg per day instead of my prescribed 100mg per day. ---I basically went NUTS!! I am doing better at my prescribed dose but am getting more and more suspicious of all meds in general. For instance-time released bupropion ruined my life for a while but changing to immediate release bupropion did not have the negative side-effects.
I went back to Walgreens and asked the pharmacist if there was any chance that the Apotex was inferior/impotent to the Cozaar for some reason. She assured me that could not be the case and that there could be no difference. Losartan is Losartan is Losartan.
As an experiment(with GP consensus), I doubled my dose of Apotex Losartan from 50 to 100 mg a day for one week. No change in BP. I am baffled. GP does not have a clue either. I want to try going back to Cozaar. Sound reasonable?
Hi I'm 22 yrs old, active about 225lbs 6'3 and I was wondering I've had high Bp ranging from upper 130's to 140's or sometimes 150's systolic my diastolic ranges from 70's to 85...I was wondering if heart ratehas anything to do with my high Bp..my rest hr is around 60's or 50's...does this have anything to do with higher blood pressure? Am I at risk more with a lower heart rate I'm on Bp meds losartan 50 mg...
I agree with you, I was put on losartan and didn't have high blood pressure and felt faint, tired, dizzy. my head went numb in the back and I started to feel faint on 25-50mg a day. maybe it's better to not take it.
what happens in hypotension is that the oxygen flow to the heart and brain is actually reduced so you become faint which is terrible because then your cells start to die.
I have been on Losartan for approximately eight months come here recently I have found it very difficult to swallow my food and seems like he gets caught in my esophagus, yesterday at two different Meals I began to choke on my food I had to drink several glasses of water in order to get my food to go down with no issues. Could this be a side effect of Losartan?
I was prescribed Celexa during tx for HCV, and my liver was in pretty rough shape. I had no problems with it. The other drugs I am not familiar with, so I can't shed any light there - just a layperson's experience with the Celexa.
hi, a couple of months back my physical came back and everything was good except AST was 55 and ALT was 68. google says normal is 48 for AST and 55 for ALT, although my doctor's *normal* requirements were slightly lower.
just looking at my numbers they don't look elevated much at all, but i don't really know if any elevation above normal is cause for concern. i'm in good shape and very active, but i do have a couple of things that may contribute to this.

My 93 y/o Mom just had a stress test and echo. They show a 52% LVEF but a small infarct area at the bottom of the heart. She has no obvious symptoms but her cardiologist has put her on a new regimen of 4 meds (statin, Plavix, losartan, metoprolol)... which she finds terribly overwhelming. My question is ... why both losartan (an Angiotensin II) and metoprolol (a beta blocker)? Don't they both do the same thing by lowering blood pressure and opening up the coronary arteries?

I have COPD and something was aggravating my breathing problems. I went to the doctor yesterday and he took me off the Metoprolol and put me on 100 mg of Losartan. He told me to just stop taking the Metoprolol.
I questioned starting off with such a high dose of Losartan. I seem to be very sensitive to these medications and felt starting right off with 100 mg was a bit high. Everything I've read online suggests people are usually started off with 50 mg.

I'm the mom who has a son that was diagnosed by chance with a bicuspid aortic valve and dilated aortic root at the age of 13 years old. He was diagnosed in May 2008. Initially the ascending part of the aorta was 2.6 and has progressed steadily with his six month checkups to 4.0 as of Feb 15, 2010. His root measured 3.8. He has had all genetic testing (Marfan's, Loeys-Dietz, Famial Thoraic) and they were all negative.
No caffeine don't smoke or eat a lot of chocolate or junk food in rather healthy and active so it came at a surprise. I'm currently taking 1 losartan a day 50mg..my Bp is now in the 140-150 range it's still fluctuates higher and lower sometimes. Bottoms stay 70-85 it fluctuates right now too. I'm on the 4th day..I have been stressed lately about my health seems like slots going wrong all at once while I'm still young (22).
I think you're wrong - I never has asthma in my life, I don't smoke and I'm not overweight. I started taking Losartan and within 2 months I had exercised-induced asthma.. do a web search.. I found other people in the same situation who developed the exact same symptoms when they started taking Losartan.
I'm 56 yrs old with a bicuspid aortic valve, otherwise healthy. I'm 6'0" and weigh 162 lbs. My aortic root measure 3.8 cm in diameter and has been stable for a few years. I'm treated with lisinopril to reduce aortic root stress. My blood pressure is usually about 110 over 68. No valve stenosis. My cardiologist is watchful but otherwise not immediately concerned. At what point should I be concerned about replacing the aortic root?
Hello, I African American male in my 40's that have been dealing with my blood pressure running 140/ 90 for a while my doctor put me on Losartan HCTZ 50- 12.5 and my pressure. After my 6 months check up my pressure was still the same so he increased my Losartan to 100-12.5 and a few weeks after I would get readings of 130 /80 sometimes and others I would get 129/78.
