Common Questions and Answers about Losartan and blood sugar

Avatar n tn I just recently had my yearly check up and the blood work was all good except my sugar was higher than usual. Could a sugar problem have anything to do with the thinning hair? It seems to have come on suddenly.
Avatar n tn I would be inclined to discontinue you Losartan and have a 24 blood pressure monitoring done in a few weeks time. This will give you the true picture. In any case cut back with your BP until you see your doctor again.

Tbd I am on 20mg of Losartan and diagnosed with pre-metabolic syndrome. Anyone else in a similar shape and has some success tips for be healthy besides electronic coaching classes?
Avatar n tn I would certainly see another doctor, preferrably a cardiologist, it seems to me that there should be something that would help. There are many blood pressure pills on the market, and sometimes, even, IV drips of blood pressure meds to get a large dose in the patient to help get the pressure lowered quickly, then, they take the pill version.
2009161 tn?1327915695 I was in a job where I used to work in night shifts, then I checked my BP was 140/90, then I felt normal, after 4 years now 2 months back I was tensed with my office tasks and I was strained that day, surprisingly in the night when I was sleeping, I felt numb on my left side of my face.
Avatar n tn I don't know much about heart disease or high blood pressure but let me tell you a couple things I know about this medication. Lisinopril is used to control high blood pressure and water retention. Too strong of a dosage can cause diarrhea which can cause potassium to drop low. Losartan - potassium (Cozarr) is used to control hypertension and might be a better fit for your daughters condition as the side effects are similar. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Hi. I take boyh losartan 100 AND norvask 5 for HBP. For next month only, i will be able to buy only one of them. Which should I buy?
Avatar f tn Hello, I've just come back from my P.E. lesson and I experienced severe dizziness and chest pain. I exercise (training) 3 times a week, go running regularly and used to do athletics 12 hours a week, but have experienced that faint feeling and chest pain (it feels like my chest cramps up) whenever I exercise more severely in the last 2 weeks. I'm a sixteen year old female, have a BMI of 18.
Avatar f tn I take Losartan and my doctor said it's not hard on the liver.
Avatar n tn s been a couple hours from when you normally take your pill, the pill should be working and your blood pressure should look like the pill is doing its job. But if your blood pressure is very high when you take it whereas it is normally normal with medication, it's a strong possibility you skipped taking it. If you normally take this medication in the morning and your blood pressure is not sky high, just wait until tomorrow and take it at the normal time.
Avatar m tn The low pulse rate may not affect the blood pressure. In fact losartan causes a rapid heart rate. If you are experiencing symptoms of dizziness or consistently low pulse rates, consult your cardiologist to rule out arrhythmias. Regards.
Avatar m tn Yes, if they run the blood test for cortisol, it would. Do you have copies of your blood work lab results to see if they ran that test?
Avatar m tn I continuously checked my BP which got increased to 70/110 later. My blood sugar levels were ok and not a diabetic. Also did an ECG next day which the results are still awaiting. After that day I still feel not right; I feel lifeless or lethargic feeling. No chest pain as such. But feel the stomach is bloated. Any advise?
Avatar m tn Hello, I African American male in my 40's that have been dealing with my blood pressure running 140/ 90 for a while my doctor put me on Losartan HCTZ 50- 12.5 and my pressure. After my 6 months check up my pressure was still the same so he increased my Losartan to 100-12.5 and a few weeks after I would get readings of 130 /80 sometimes and others I would get 129/78.
Avatar f tn They started me on losartan 50 mg and amlodipine 5mg. And for some reason it seams like it is not going down, so I went to the ER and they increased my amlodipine to 10mg and adv me to contact my primary dr that following week. Called the dr that next week and he increased my losartan to 100 mg and amlodipine to 10 mg, 1 each per day. However it seems like my bp is still hanging out around the upper 180's.
Avatar f tn I was always pretty active and of good weight, ate half way decent. Then I got pregnant and whoa. Ya. My blood pressure spiked high. Then it was okay but began creeping up. And up. It does get tied to my weight/activity level but it's my genes. Hard to fight. I finally started Losartan which has been great. It did lower my blood pressure right away. You're on a beta blocker? is that for hypertension or anxiety?
Avatar f tn Normal blood pressure should be no higher than 120/80, especially in those with a history of heart disease or those with multiple CV risk factors such as diabetes. Of the blood pressure medications you listed, Losartan and Norvasc are medications often used to treat blood pressure. Having a lower than normal blood pressure is not dangerous unless there are associated symptoms (light-headedness, fatigue, dizziness, etc.).
1008841 tn?1293598960 There was a recent thread on this forum regarding fibrosis regression and blood pressure drugs (specifically Cozaar, Losartan, etc. the ARB class). If you look back over the past month this thread should be available. There are a variety of related comments in the thread. I got on Cozaar for my tx induced high BP specifically for this reason! I had read studies about Cozaar being beneficial for ED, Fibrosis, and depression...
Avatar n tn Losartan also may cause a persistent cough, increase serum potassium, impotence, and angioedema. Losartan may reduce kidney function in some patients and should not be used by patients who have bilateral renal artery stenosis (narrowing of both arteries going to the kidneys). Rare cases of rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown) have been reported.
Avatar m tn I agree with you, I was put on losartan and didn't have high blood pressure and felt faint, tired, dizzy. my head went numb in the back and I started to feel faint on 25-50mg a day. maybe it's better to not take it. what happens in hypotension is that the oxygen flow to the heart and brain is actually reduced so you become faint which is terrible because then your cells start to die.
Avatar m tn ve taken it for a few years now, the last time i got a physical i had just started the losartan so previous blood tests may not rule out losartan as a cause for raised levels 2. i used to take gout medicine but quit a couple of years back, again in between physicals so no way to rule out this as a cause 3.
Avatar m tn My 93 y/o Mom just had a stress test and echo. They show a 52% LVEF but a small infarct area at the bottom of the heart. She has no obvious symptoms but her cardiologist has put her on a new regimen of 4 meds (statin, Plavix, losartan, metoprolol)... which she finds terribly overwhelming. My question is ... why both losartan (an Angiotensin II) and metoprolol (a beta blocker)? Don't they both do the same thing by lowering blood pressure and opening up the coronary arteries?
Avatar f tn By blocking the action of angiotensin, losartan relaxes muscle cells and dilates blood vessels, reducing blood pressure. It can cause nasal congestion and persistent cough, Since you have both the cough and leg swelling, you should ask to try another bp medication. There are other types. If he won't change from Lorsartan, at least ask if you can have the kind with hydrochlorothiazide, as it is a water pill and will get rid of the swelling.
Avatar n tn what blood pressure medication and depression medication would not be metabolized through the liver.
1210142 tn?1266077031 These side effects are often related to either low blood pressures or low heart rate but can often be relieved through adjustments in the dose and timing of the medications. I would check and keep note of your blood pressure and heart rate frequently (and not if you are having any of the symptoms) using a home blood pressure monitoring kit that you can get at your local pharmacy. With that information, you can work with your physician to find a regimen that will make you feel better.
