Losartan and aspirin

Common Questions and Answers about Losartan and aspirin

I was advised to take one aspirin tablet a day to thin my blood and I continued with this until a year ago. In addition, a couple of years after the MRI scan, due to the onset of high blood pressure, I was prescribed losartan 50 mg and also one of the statin drugs 10 mg to lower my cholesterol level. Well a year ago, I suffered torrential rectal bleeding as a result of diverticular disease. Then a total colectomy was performed.
From acupuncture, botox, chiropratic, massage therapy, hypnois, vitamins, herbal remedies, high blood pressure medications, tryphans, antiseizures meds, ice and lavender and nothing works but a pain med or shot. Believe me I have gone without any pain meds, over the counter or prescriptions because I was being cautious about the "rebound effect." I keep a regular sleep pattern.
The above mentioned side effects are very bothersome and I don't know if they are from Losartan or...just need time? From your expirience: looking for BP medications with good proven record and less side effects? Do I still have to take beta blockers for the rest of my life or there is another alternative- I understand they are very useful after a heart attack but I feel horrible.Statins and Plavix do not give me any trouble so far. Any opinion and advise will be greatly appreciated.
tony969, Sorry to hear about your recent troubles and problems with the medications. The aspirin and plavix you are taking prevent the stents from becoming clotted and are absolutely necessary after having stents placed. These medications are without question the most important that you take. As for the losartan and carvedilol, dizziness and fatigue are two common side effects of the medications.

Should I be taking one? (And is low-dose aspirin safe? There seems to be conflicting thoughts on this for people with CHF.) Supplements: Should I be taking any? What about statins? Vasodilators? Digoxin? I apologize for the long post. I appreciate your time & help.
Research reports favour different ones and contradict each other. Some favour Candesartan, others Losartan; and still others Valsartan. They all have slightly different modes of action. Which would you choose? OR - would you favour a different class of BP meds? CNS; vasodilators; calcium channel blockers etc. Since I had a problem with ACE inhibitor, would I also have a problem with ARBs, given that their modes of action is similar?
I received a stent and medications such as Effient, Metopopral, losartan,325 aspirin and Prevaststin. I woke up out of my sleep with an urgency like I did the first time I was having a heart attack and have not been able to sleep since. The chest pain has some what eased up and I don't want to run to the ER everytimebut this is so scarey to me. Help what should I do?
My doctor recommended MethylCobalamin 400 OD, Aspirin 75mg OD and Losartan Pottasium BID. Is it a sympyom of a stroke ? or a simple parathesia ? Should I continue Losartan, even BP is normal. Should I immediately withdraw Aspirin after recommended period ?(20 days) I am taking Fluvoxamine too, since 4 month for an OCD.(I was experiencing the same numbness problem before starting fluvoxamine) Please tell me the correct diagnosys. 2 mg/L most of last year BP has been OK but recently is going up and been high at times and was high at doctors so started on 50 mg losartan to bring it and the pulmonary artery pressure down. The mention of PH with diastolic dysfunction is worrying to me as it seems a negative trend even though LV systolic function, according to my cardiologist, "seems slightly improved." Carvedilol 6.
I too am borderline low-blood pressure, but I did try Toprol (way back when) and then moved on to Cardizem (which I miss!) before the A-fib episode. Now I'm on the new drug Multaq and an aspirin a day therapy. But my stomach is bad. I do have gerd. Lately, I've been wondering if I have something worse! It's bad. So are the PVC's. A few of you mentioned possible relation between heart and stomach. I'm going to try liquids for a few days to see if that helps with both.
followed immediately by my same-breakfast-of-7 years of 2 “unprocessed” whole grain/nut/fruit breakfast bars (held together by (alas) maltose) and a full 20oz+ of water. MY THEORY IS … the large amount of fiber and relative coarseness of the unprocessed breakfast bars eaten with a large amount of water, mitigate any bad effects that my large amount of “meds and other” might have if they all just “sat” there in my stomach without food.
I had a heart attack 3 years ago and underwent PTCA stenting in right coronary artery. About a year later, I started having PVCs which went up to about 9000 every 24 Hours, though LVEF was 65%. A Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Stress Test with TC 99m, did not show exercise induced ischemia, except for a fixed perfusion defect caused by the earlier heart attack. Probably, after long therapy with Sotalol, my PVCs now stand at 55 every 24 Hours.
I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back. Then we tried massage therapy, it helps but only for a short period. Then I have to go back to the massage therapist again and again, my insurance will not pay for that.
Several sites seem to disagree on the interaction between methotrexate and COQ10. Is there any definitive information about using these two tablets together?

I had all the routine tests to rule out secondary causes and was therefore diagnosed as having essential/primary hypertension and commenced on Losartan, my BP remained uncontrolled running about 150/100 and throughout numerous months my medication was changed, finally settling at 100mg Losartan and 10mg Amlodipine which kept my BP controlled at around 120/70.
I have started medication for Blood Pressure and presently I am taking Metopralol 50 mgs in the morning and Losartan Pottassium 50 mg. in the night. I started my medication for Blood Pressure 3 years ago. When I was started my BP was recorded 150/90, before starting medication I checked up my Blood Pressure continuously for one month and always recorded 130/90 to 140/90. Moreover, I am a regular smoker and very occassionally takes drinks.
Aspirin, (75mg/day), losartan (100mg./day), nicorandil (15mg.twice/day), Amlodipine (10mg/day). Recent Anginal pain has led to further cardiac catheterisation with the following results:- LV Angiogram:- Good functioning Left Ventrical. Coronary Arteries:- Left Main Stem Normal. LAD - The LAD seems to be occluded quite proximally. It gives rise to a decent first septal perforator which seems to be diseased throughout.
Cardiologist just added 25 losartan and changed toprol from 50 to 25. Other meds Folic Acid and aspirin. Imdur 50. All QD. BP runs 104/68. Non-smoker, 5'8', wt 155 and active. Should angio be repeated? Can this be treated more aggressively? Are there any on-going studies for Genetic Heart Disease at CCF? Thanks in advance for any help available.
Before the A-Fib I had many yearsd of blood pressure control by standard drugs (Atenolol, Nifedipine, Losartan Potassium and Aspirin, plus Simvastatin though my cholesterol is usually low). They put me back on Aspirin when the Warfarin was discontinued. Cardio doc suggested the chances of ablation working are less than 50% and doesn't jusify the risks - I think they're basing that on the fact I have enlarged atria and also the weight issue. The UK National Health Service is a law unto itself.
I called my cardiologist and he told me to hold the Attenolol (on Plavix, 325mg Aspirin, Losartan, Wellbutrin, Attenolol, Lunesta) My BP is fine. I am getting so discouraged- I thought I would feel better after the stents .Also, I have been on Nexium for the past 5 years for severe GERD- my husband just informed me that it should never be taken with Plavix as it decreases its efficacy. Would have been nice to know, since I have taken it every day since discharge.
I again had an episode at 7 in the morning 3 weeks after the first episode and it subsided in 10 minutes. It was then that my doctor told me to start low dose aspirin and clopidogrel(75+75) and keep a pill(Flecainide 50 mg) in my pocket in case the arrythmia lasts for an hour or so.I thought I would do some breathing exercises to maybe decrease the frequency of this problem but after doing deep breathing i had a minute of AF which subsided on its own.
In the past I was a heavy coffee drinker (2-4 a day). I am taking 1/4 of losartan hctz 100mg/12.5 a day for my hypertension. I went to ER and wear holter monitor twice and they said I have pvc . they said it's harmless. I am worried that the diagnosis was not correct. should I be concerned , why I am having this, is this normal? why it is progressing? I specifically asked the dr if I have afib and he said no. Could it be the hydrochlorothiazide? but it's very very lose dose.
