Avatar f tn Drug studies are only 4 to 8 weeks long I doub't there have ever been any long term (more than a year) studies on the long term use of gabapentin. For any one who is having trouble tapering off of gabapentin a magnesium supplement is very effective in reducing the severity of the withdrawal from gabapentin.
Avatar f tn Sorry to have a 2 part question but I am also noticing significant short term memory loss. Over that’s 5 years I have noticed I recall less and less long term (like my kids growing up) and now I tend to recall less short term, even forgetting what I was saying halfway through. It’s like it’s at the top of my tongue but I can say it. Or even driving and I will take a random turn and then can’t figure out where I am for a bit even though I’m going to somewhere I have been.
Avatar f tn Ambien absolutely can cause memory loss, more commonly short-term issues, but also some people have reported problems with their long term memory as well. The good news is...if other causes have been ruled out, and Ambien seems to be the culprit, the memory issues will resolve most times after the Ambien is safely tapered.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.
Avatar f tn That's a big dose. I'm not sure of long term memory effects.
963268 tn?1312900315 I have a friend with MS I've known since I was a kid...too many years ago. She's been in a wheel chair for 15 years and has no cognitive problems...My memory is getting worse. I think I'd rather be in the wheel chair.
Avatar m tn How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.
Avatar m tn hi my 14yr old Labrador suffered a stroke six weeks ago, she recovered that ok but since then she has had problems remembering her toilet training, she has started to do her poo in the house, she has never done this since she was six week old, she goes out for a wee but the other she will just do it where ever she is anywhere , is there anything to help her remember her training, she is to old to retrain it just frightening her and she gets confused, the house is covered with paper on the floor
Avatar f tn Although I have no problem remembering facts and figures and my short term memory is better than most, I have no long term memory of events. I know it's normal not to remember childhood, but I don't remember high school or college or anything I did there. In fact, my oldest memory is looking outside and seeing chairs on the lawn at my mom's birthday. That was two weeks ago and there only seems to be a vague, blank space before it. Memories just fade after a few weeks.
Avatar m tn Am I expected to see an increase in the IQ score for short term memory after the program (our child has average IQ overall with mid 80s for memory but above average for other IQ components)? Are all providers of the program equally proficient or do I have to also research their credentials?
Avatar m tn hey guys, I was diagnosed with short term memory back in high school...teachers were made aware of this issue & I was given extra time to take tests/study. A few years have passed since then, but I find that I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to. For instance, I couldnt even remember the name of a movie I saw with my friend two days ago or our conversation....sometimes conversations hours after they have occurred. is there anythinng I can do to help improve my memory???
Avatar m tn The hand tremors are 90 percent gone, the anxiety is gone, but the memory loss, long and short term remain. Can mercury cause long and short term memory loss that would last my whole life, even 45 years after the mercury exposure?
Avatar n tn Cogmed.com. Providers of the Training are listed on the web site.
Avatar m tn I seem to get mini attacks in the mornings, right as im waking up. I know that its addictive. What im wondering if long term use can affect the brain? Im very forgetful and misplace things all the time. I know that comes with age , I"ll be 60 in Oct. and am told that at that age people usualy lose 55% of thier short term memory. Can alprazolam cause brain problems? I read something about the ventricles inlarging. How lomg can an individual take this drug??
Avatar n tn Yes Fentanyl or any narcotic can effect our short term memories, regardless of our age. Physicians walk the fine line of memory impairment or pain management. It is my guess you would rather see your mother with some memory disturbances instead of dealing with chronic pain that would make her days and nights absolutely miserable.
Avatar m tn Is there anyone out there who has finished TX for at least 2 years to 10 years out and has no problems with long term sides?..i dont seem to see many posts on this issue,i see a few posted by some who have long term sides...where are the non-sides people?
Avatar n tn Hi I don't know I am just a lay person but I would be cautious about using any sleep medication with untreated sleep apnea. I wonder if your symptoms are the result of the sleep apnea vs the medication. Disturbed sleep can leave you feeling tired and low oxygen saturation levels could explain poor memory. I don't know of any long-term effects of Remeron. I have read that increased blood fats could pose a risk for some people though. This is said to be rare.
Avatar f tn Short term memory loss at your age sounds odd, Get it checked out asp. Try not to worry meanwhile. Memory is precious, long term seems to stay intact when the short term goes in my case.
Avatar n tn For example, Cogmed is a brain training program that has been shown to improve attention and working memory, leading to better academic skills. Hope this helps, Dr. Tali Shenfield, C.Psych. www.psy-ed.

Avatar f tn Keep in mind you are doing great and the end will be there, maybe even sooner then you think. It is indeed the Angel dust and maybe also the long term use of benzodiazepines what you are stil recovering from at the moment. Keep in mind you are doing a fantastic job and you will get there.
1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm a 45 year male, that has been on antidepressants since I was 15 years old. Lately (over the lasts 6 months) I have been experiencing, extreme loss of short term memory. I'll be watching a tv show, it goes to commercial and I have absolutely no idea what program I was watching. When, say doing some bookkeeping, I will look at an invoice, and when I go to input the invoice # or what ever I have to go back to the invoice, sometimes 2 to 4 times...
Avatar f tn It is basically a softening of the brain matter as a result of an ischemia or infarction, degenerative changes, infection, craniocerebral trauma, or other injury. Thus any damage to this lobe can lead to long term memory loss. Certain types of epilepsies and seizures and sleep disturbances too cause short term memory loss along with tiredness or fatigue. Chronic infections too are known to precipitate memory loss. For this you can try yoga and meditation.
