Avatar m tn hey guys, I was diagnosed with short term memory back in high school...teachers were made aware of this issue & I was given extra time to take tests/study. A few years have passed since then, but I find that I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to. For instance, I couldnt even remember the name of a movie I saw with my friend two days ago or our conversation....sometimes conversations hours after they have occurred. is there anythinng I can do to help improve my memory???
Avatar f tn Ambien absolutely can cause memory loss, more commonly short-term issues, but also some people have reported problems with their long term memory as well. The good news is...if other causes have been ruled out, and Ambien seems to be the culprit, the memory issues will resolve most times after the Ambien is safely tapered.
Avatar f tn I've been experiencing some really irritating short-term memory loss problems (for myself as well as other people). I am 35, female and trying to figure out why and how I can improve this. Ther are a few things I have considered...I was in an auto accident last year. I was t-boned and the driver side airbag went off and pretty much saved my life.

Avatar n tn I am having problems with cognitive skills I am 43 and feel like I am 70 I find myself having problems forming sentences and reaching for words, basic math skills and my short term memory although always affected has become pretty bad I will forget anything. I could live with most of it but the pain is something else. my family talked me into going into the hospital lol what a joke. Doctor says sorry there is nothing we can do for you!
Avatar n tn Hi, I am 36 years old and have been taking Oxycodone(no tylenol) 5mg. x2 twice daily for two years. I have sever back pain from a car accident 15 years ago. I have been on and off oxy for the whole time but never for longer than a couple weeks until two years ago when the pain didn't go away. There is nothing they can do surgically to fix it so I have had to rely on meds. My dosage has gone up since I've been on it to help with the pain, I'm sure from my tolerance going up.
Avatar n tn m 35, I used to have a vivid photogenic memory, but within the last 4 years my memory has regressed severely it is at a point now that I will go shopping for the same things a few times a week because I forgot that I did it already, I can do something and within 5 minutes have already forgotten, or I could be in the middle of a conversation and I completely forget what we are talking about (this also happens a lot) I have lost long term memory as well, like names of my best friends growing up,
Avatar f tn Drug studies are only 4 to 8 weeks long I doub't there have ever been any long term (more than a year) studies on the long term use of gabapentin. For any one who is having trouble tapering off of gabapentin a magnesium supplement is very effective in reducing the severity of the withdrawal from gabapentin.
Avatar f tn I have officially been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease. My endo and PCP put me on Levothyroxine .25mg once a day. It has been two months, and my short term memory is still not better. I can't remember things or conversations that happened that day or just hours prior. It is actually really worrisome, when on Friday I forgot the names to the days of the week. I was able to get seen tomorrow.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.
Avatar n tn A good neuro-psychological test can pinpoint areas of cognitive dysfunction and test short and long term memory issues. Your PCP or your neurologist can order one of these evaluations for you.
Avatar n tn hi, as such there is no relation between the two.But such long term uncomfortable disease can lead to depression which indirectly may cause memory problems. Please consult Neurologist and get an MRI done to rule out brain pathology.
Avatar f tn That's a big dose. I'm not sure of long term memory effects.
963268 tn?1312900315 I have a friend with MS I've known since I was a kid...too many years ago. She's been in a wheel chair for 15 years and has no cognitive problems...My memory is getting worse. I think I'd rather be in the wheel chair.
Avatar m tn How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.
1051214 tn?1255828242 Wow! Yes, to make a very long story short... it took me a long time to realize it. And I"m ashamed to say it, but my youngest son in tears because he was so worried about two weeks before the surgery. I asked him "What's wrong?" No answer. And frankly my boys are 'very' open, we've taught them to be open about everything from puberty on up the list. But he couldn't answer me. This scared me.
Avatar n tn he is now walking and talking but his short term memory has been very deeply affected, also his long term memory is bad,he does not seem to recall many events from the past and even though we are repetively repeating to him that he is in hospital he keeps asking where he is and saying there is nothing wrong with him.
Avatar m tn I have always been the sharpest mentally and could remember everything and now I have issues remebering what I did 10 minutes ago. The issue is mostly short term memory not long term. I still remember my schooling just not who I talked to last or their names. I do not drink or smoke. My only bad habit is too much Mt. Dew but I have mostly given that up just in case. Other possibly unrelated symptoms are very poor sleep, weight gain and over all pain and soreness in joints.
1763947 tn?1334055319 Hi, I was wondering if any one else has experienced problems with short term memory? Mine is getting worse by the day and I am really worried. My friend called me one night and the next day when we spoke, I didn't remember ever talking to her the night before. This type of thing is happening more and more. My move was delayed until the end of the month which means I am delayed in seeing my new LLMD. Would love to hear if this is something many people experience?
Avatar n tn Cognitive impairments can persist for at least 6 months after withdrawal of clonazepam; it is unclear whether full recovery of memory functions occurs. Other long-term effects of benzodiazepines include tolerance, a benzodiazepine dependence as well as a benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome occurs in a third of people treated with clonazepam for longer than 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn Although I have no problem remembering facts and figures and my short term memory is better than most, I have no long term memory of events. I know it's normal not to remember childhood, but I don't remember high school or college or anything I did there. In fact, my oldest memory is looking outside and seeing chairs on the lawn at my mom's birthday. That was two weeks ago and there only seems to be a vague, blank space before it. Memories just fade after a few weeks.
Avatar n tn He is home and doing well now, except his short term memory often fails him - frustrating him to no end. He recognizes his doctors and their role in his care, but cannot remember their names. He is unable to remember short instructions or even phone messages. He has been declared legally blind and is unable to write things down as most do. Therapists are at a loss as to how to help him as his issues cover mutliple areas and they are only trained to address one or the other.
1301334 tn?1272890907 It is basically a softening of the brain matter as a result of an ischemia or infarction, degenerative changes, infection, craniocerebral trauma, or other injury. Thus any damage to this lobe can lead to long term memory loss, mood swings, talking too much, and energy bursts leading to over activity. If the MRI of brain is done and it shows an injury to frontal lobe of the brain, then your behavior changes can be explained by the injury.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my memory is really bad for the short term and some of the long term for language and so forth. I feel extremely hopeless becuase I have no control over this and is making me very afraid of what can happen, can it get worse. I just dont know. Im on meds but im going back to my doctor with this issue to change my meds and find an answer. Please let me know what can I expect with this memory loss.
Avatar n tn I am a 33 year old mother of three and my memory is getting worse. I used to attribute it to being so busy but it's become more short term as I get older. I'm forgetting words when I have conversations with people, names of streets that I've always known before. I'll walk in a room specifically for an item and once in the room, I forget why I was there.
Avatar m tn I am a professional person and used to think my memory loss was from depression (taking this for anxiety but sometimes can be disguised) which can cause some short term memory loss. I thought this since memory loss was never even considered by the pharms. Now today after finding this site, I see it is true what I have always believed. This Med cause short term memory loss!
