Common Questions and Answers about Long term memory in children

memory

Avatar f tn Although I have no problem remembering facts and figures and my short term memory is better than most, I have no long term memory of events. I know it's normal not to remember childhood, but I don't remember high school or college or anything I did there. In fact, my oldest memory is looking outside and seeing chairs on the lawn at my mom's birthday. That was two weeks ago and there only seems to be a vague, blank space before it. Memories just fade after a few weeks.
Avatar f tn Ambien absolutely can cause memory loss, more commonly short-term issues, but also some people have reported problems with their long term memory as well. The good news is...if other causes have been ruled out, and Ambien seems to be the culprit, the memory issues will resolve most times after the Ambien is safely tapered.
Avatar f tn BUT, I have to take it or I am in pain. So try not to worry so much about the long term effects when you are trying to survive today. If you are worried about this I would talk to my doctor and let them know what you are experiencing and there may be something they can do differently. Just dont stop any seizure med without a doctors help. Hope you feel better..
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.

Avatar f tn Thus any damage to this lobe can lead to long term memory loss, mood swings, talking too much, and energy bursts leading to over activity. Long term complication is chance of schizophrenia. If you notice any such symptoms, report to the doctor immediately. Take care!
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
Avatar m tn How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.
Avatar n tn How to improve my son Short Term memory? There are any kind of exerccisses? Diets ? etc ??
Avatar m tn hey guys, I was diagnosed with short term memory back in high school...teachers were made aware of this issue & I was given extra time to take tests/study. A few years have passed since then, but I find that I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to. For instance, I couldnt even remember the name of a movie I saw with my friend two days ago or our conversation....sometimes conversations hours after they have occurred. is there anythinng I can do to help improve my memory???
Avatar m tn The hand tremors are 90 percent gone, the anxiety is gone, but the memory loss, long and short term remain. Can mercury cause long and short term memory loss that would last my whole life, even 45 years after the mercury exposure?
Avatar n tn I have been on prozac (fluxetene) for 14 years now - I was severely depressed - and when I started taking it I was suicidal. After two weeks on Prozac my life changed dramatically - and I have been on it ever since with variations on the dozage - I now take 20 mg daily. (I did try to get off it once because everything in my life was great and felt there was no reason to be depressed - but after weaning myself off the depression came back with a vengence - so I went back on it).
Avatar m tn ll be 60 in Oct. and am told that at that age people usualy lose 55% of thier short term memory. Can alprazolam cause brain problems? I read something about the ventricles inlarging. How lomg can an individual take this drug?? If I stop and replace it with adivan Not sure I have the right spelling. Will I have withdraw symptons. This job is causing it yet it is great pay.
Avatar f tn it sounds like you have a brain injury that stems all the way back to your car accident. these type of problems you are describing are EXACTLY what happens with brain injuries. the sad thing is that most brain injuries go undiagnosed because they do not even show up on a brain scan - you only know that you have the injury by the type of symptoms you are having - confused, "air head", bad memory, fatigue, problems with short term memory and long term memory.
Avatar n tn I would not be worried this is short term memory loss, I suspect he is just not interested in paying attention right now and particularly to adults. You also don't state how old he is?
Avatar n tn Yes Fentanyl or any narcotic can effect our short term memories, regardless of our age. Physicians walk the fine line of memory impairment or pain management. It is my guess you would rather see your mother with some memory disturbances instead of dealing with chronic pain that would make her days and nights absolutely miserable.
Avatar m tn in comparisson to short termmemory loss and how to overcome short term memory loss without using a pill but with FAITH IN INDEPENDANCE and organizing the electrical synapses that our brains use most frequently/ rely on the most frequently.... you might need to forget some of your most valuable memories to be able to regain your short term memory... Thats how computers work... when my computer starts running out of memory it gets a case of short term memory loss on a monthly basis!
Avatar n tn it can be taken in 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg. I take 10mg in spring, summer and fall and 20 mg in Winter. It decreases my anxiety and allows me a great night's sleep. I've been on this for years and highly recommend it as it has minimal side effects. If you have sleep Apnea that can cause interrupted sleep but not insomnia...so I would expect you would need a different source of help as well.
Avatar f tn Short term memory loss at your age sounds odd, Get it checked out asp. Try not to worry meanwhile. Memory is precious, long term seems to stay intact when the short term goes in my case.
Avatar n tn Ok, So I was diagnosed in December 2012, after suffering symptoms of blurred vision, short term memory problems, and fatigue. I've had two mri's, the initial mri and one also to check for flow which wasn't too great. Then in January, my husband and I found that we were expecting our 3rd child which meant surgery had to wait, but also since I was able to manage my symptoms with a daily nap and had plenty of energy that surgery was up to me.
Avatar f tn Between 07 and 08 I was hospitalized several times and received approximately thirty something ECT treatments. These have left me with a virtually non existent long term memory and impaired short term memory. I am so sad, angry and upset. I cannot remember working as a nurse, how to nurse or my life with my family since my husband and I married 32 years ago. This is the most important of all. Has anyone had experiences with ECT of this nature?
Avatar f tn Keep in mind you are doing great and the end will be there, maybe even sooner then you think. It is indeed the Angel dust and maybe also the long term use of benzodiazepines what you are stil recovering from at the moment. Keep in mind you are doing a fantastic job and you will get there.
1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?
Avatar m tn What I was wondering is if this short term memory loss can be explained away with long term antidepressant use or a possible physical condition. Doctors are in short supply in my city, and I've been to the walkin clinic for prescription refills, and when I've asked the doctor about it, all he has to say is that he's never heard of memory loss being a symptom of long term antidepressant use.
