I have no symptoms and feel great; I am 54 and wondering if HEP C would kill me or if the treatment could cause long term effects that could ruin my health. The longest living male in my family was my father 86 and had slow progressive dementia the last 10 years.

Drug studies are only 4 to 8 weeks long I doub't there have ever been any long term (more than a year) studies on the long term use of gabapentin. For any one who is having trouble tapering off of gabapentin a magnesium supplement is very effective in reducing the severity of the withdrawal from gabapentin.

Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.

Hello, I'm trying to figure out what happened after a series of concussions I suffered over the summer (late July). Since none of my symptoms seem to line up with anything, it would be great if you could help. Over the summer I had two concussions one day apart for each other. The first was a blow to the front of my head and I was unconscious for 3 1/2 hours. The second was a blow to the back of my head, were I was dizzy immediately afterwards (then it went away).

That's a big dose. I'm not sure of long term memory effects.

I have a friend with MS I've known since I was a kid...too many years ago. She's been in a wheel chair for 15 years and has no cognitive problems...My memory is getting worse. I think I'd rather be in the wheel chair.

How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Ambien absolutely can cause memory loss, more commonly short-term issues, but also some people have reported problems with their long term memory as well. hey guys, I was diagnosed with short term memory back in high school...teachers were made aware of this issue & I was given extra time to take tests/study. A few years have passed since then, but I find that I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to. You have had a thorough evaluation, with would exclude many of the major causes for your symptoms. I agree with the sinus imaging, and I would treat any facial or sinus infection with appropriate antibiotics. I also agree with the thyroid and vitamin B12 testing, along with the tests for the various viruses. If you are male, couldn't tell by your story, I would also add on a testosterone level.

Yes Fentanyl or any narcotic can effect our short term memories, regardless of our age. Physicians walk the fine line of memory impairment or pain management. It is my guess you would rather see your mother with some memory disturbances instead of dealing with chronic pain that would make her days and nights absolutely miserable.

Thinking about it remains me of a televison documentary that showed there are people who have a health issue with their short- term memory to the extent they lose memory within a few minutes and have absolutely no memory of an experience with a few minutes duration (extreme case). Also, there are obessive compulsive disorders that require a need for them to do something repetively. There may be a medical link!?

if u spend some time reading on this site u will see that the short term and long term effects vary enormously. if u are using this question as a decision whether to treat it may be the wrong question. on the other hand if u just want to be well armed with information read on and back. it does seem that there could be a correlation with the length of time on treatment but it is weak. many folks who treat are middle aged which brings its own set of health issues.

Hi I don't know I am just a lay person but I would be cautious about using any sleep medication with untreated sleep apnea. I wonder if your symptoms are the result of the sleep apnea vs the medication. Disturbed sleep can leave you feeling tired and low oxygen saturation levels could explain poor memory. I don't know of any long-term effects of Remeron. I have read that increased blood fats could pose a risk for some people though. This is said to be rare.
