Avatar m tn He immediately lost short term memory and now has started to lose long term memory. We have taken him for a neuropsychologist eval which revealed severe dementia of unknown origin. All neuro image testing has been normal (CT scan, PET scan) All blood work has been normal. He now presents like an Alzheimers patient with sexual inappropriateness but neurologist said he has the symptoms of an Alzheimers/dementia patient without having the actual disease.

Avatar n tn I am also recovering alcohlic. Thank God Recovered! I know I have short term memory loss, I used to have the best memory!! Every once in a while, I will have rapid eyelid movement or my lips will quiver. I believe this is related to the long term Xanax use. I am also worried about dementia. My mother has suffered from dementia/alzheimers for years. What is the outlook for me? Sometimes I just don't think I can go on. Some days are worse than others.
Avatar n tn Within the last 4 weeks she has lost most of her short term memory and some of her long term memory. The other day my wife phoned to say hello and was not reconized, (this seems really odd to me as my wife and my sister-in-law are twins and no one can tell them apart when they are on the phone). My sister-in-law has taken her to a psychiatrist, a doctor, and had a CAT scan done. The diagnosis is that it is the onset of a form of dementia and unlikely to improve.
Avatar f tn I've been experiencing some really irritating short-term memory loss problems (for myself as well as other people). I am 35, female and trying to figure out why and how I can improve this. Ther are a few things I have considered...I was in an auto accident last year. I was t-boned and the driver side airbag went off and pretty much saved my life.

Avatar f tn Hello, A Mum of a freind of mine has been having some memory problems for just over a year now. She has had several GP appointments, memory tests and two neurology appointments. (She had scans previously due to an unrelated fall, which they have used) It has been an 11 month process so far. They have just had another appointment with a neurologist who has said they now need to do an MRI. All doctors have said they think it is a form of dementia or alzheimers but still no solid diognosis!
Avatar m tn Her eyes are rolling back a bit and her eye lids are lower, as if she is sleepy looking. Is this a symptom of Alzheimers or Dimetia? This discussion is related to preventing Alzheimer's.
Avatar n tn He has been experiencing short-term memory loss for the past 3 years. This spring, my mom took him to the doctor for a series of tests. They conducted an MRI to check for tumors or a possible stroke. They also conducted an initial screening for Alzheimers and dementia. Everything came back clear. The doctors agreed that there is some short-term memory loss but not enough to warrant medication.
Avatar n tn It was very frightening as my Dd has Alzheimers and the symptoms were similiar. Although I am 65 I work full time and found that the memory issues were screwing with me at work so badly that I started losing jobs. After stopping it for 2 weeks I am feeling some of the brain fog lifting but it is scary to hear from some people that it doesn't go away totally. I would like to hear others experience with brain fog" related to Mirtazapine use.
Avatar m tn there is a good website ,free, called lumosity google and you will find it, great mind games and exercises to help with memory .Good luck let us know how you are doing .
Avatar n tn However I will try to provide you with some useful information A normal MRI brain does not rule out Alzheimers with absolute certainity. This is a diagnosis which is based on neuropsychological testing , brain imaging and long term neurological follow up. The diagnosis is not based on a single test, at one point in time. It would be best to be seen by a neurologist who can examine you and based on the neurological exam and ancillary testing, determine the risk/diagnosis of Alzheimers.
Avatar m tn Gingko biloba is an herb used for retaining short-term memory that has been proven successful in both Europe and here. Because it makes you more alert it has the side effect of sharpening focus as a bonus. I participated in a two-year trial with gingko and this is the effect it had on me. There are no harmful side effects. It is over-the-counter and inexpensive. Please note that I have never heard of this being recommended for ADHD and there are no trials that I know of.
Avatar f tn I cant recall few simple words told to me by my brother. My long term memory is very good. Many friends of mine and my family had been very supportive but don't know how to deal with my inlaws with this problem. I look quite weak, dont look healthy and had very sensitive temprament all my life. I used to cry over small and big issues a lot. Now I ve reduced crying a lot . I used to argue a lot over things which have reduced a lot as well.
Avatar m tn org/diseases-conditions/alzheimers-disease/in-depth/memory-loss/art-20046326 This link has emotional disturbance, stress and anxiety listed for a reason to have short term memory issues but this is more in the realm of not remembering that moment, not forgetting people, places and things in the recent past and going to a different time in your life. that sounds almost like dementia. I would talk to her doctor about it and then see if they think she should see a neurologist.
Avatar m tn He is starting her on dexamethasone to answer that dilemma but is short term only. If her memory comes back and thereby can be attributed to the tumor, is there any long term non-surgical options for her? she does not want surgery at her age and the surgeon is also reluctant because of it. im concerned the edema will eventually begin to cause severe impairment (she has occasionally showed signs of mini TIA's of late) and loss of function. She lives alone but very close by.
Avatar m tn My memory has started a big fade, so I am interested in any therapies. Especially frightening are the number of short term issues that occur daily. I am undiagnosed, but intend to see my doc soon. I have started reading about Okinawa Island where no one gets Alzheimers unless they adopt a lifestyle (or diet) that is not traditional to their island. That seems proof that there is more to their lifestyle preventing Alzheimers than can occur purely from just good genes.
804276 tn?1480858056 i have had really bad memory problems for most of my life and was wondering if my conditions could cause this. i have points in my life, many, that i just don't remember at all and they aren't bad situations. everything from what i ate yesterday to a family member coming to visit from out of town, years ago, but i don't remember it ever happening. i'm so afraid of alzheimers when i get older but i don't think my memory problems fits alzheimers.
Avatar f tn She had lost her husband of 65 years and had become extremely depressed and the care she was under brought much fear to her....after 1 year she was given the MMSE test and her memory had not deteriorated at all...I have been researching possible causes for her short term memory loss, which was much of the time, selective, I have reason to believe that she suffered from Pseudo Dementia...Can you refer me to any medical studies or documented information on this subject....
Avatar n tn Dementia is characterized by progressive memory impairment and intellectual dysfunctions. Memory, orientation, ability to plan and organize is also impaired.
Avatar f tn ve noticed a progressive, severe change in her personality. Her short-term memory is very bad, she very quickly escalates when confronted about literally anything that's not sunshine and roses (like a 6 year old throwing a massive fit over a toy escalating. Complete with whining and childish voices), her ability to process new information and reaction times are shot. She is not the person I remember.
6666290 tn?1385538225 I forgot about the Pilly Jilly account until it came up automatically...I dont have Alzheimers but I do have long term memory issues .I have to write everything down ! I did a Norco taper which was no fun at all...I think it just made me go thru WDs longer .I took every last pill tapering down unti they were gone and jumped at 1 and a half pills a day. I survived..I have arrhythmia issues so even though the taper was hard for me I had to go that way.
11924850 tn?1601364171 My beloved sister was dxd with Sudden Onset Dementia (Re: Alzheimers a year ago at 63). Short-term memory loss. How short term is short term? She doesn't remember her appts. I'm trying to read up on how to deal with her now. The thing is she's absolutely terrified unless her husband is home, which he is trying to be as much as possible. He started FMLA recently and he is planning to retire a bit early. Has anyone heard of these terrors she is having? They're horrible.
Avatar m tn It takes many months to rebuild your brain and body. My thought is to go to a good supplement store and see what things they have to improve memory.
Avatar n tn I always had my doubts since my dad lost his motor skills (ability to walk/talk/write), had paranoia, and also would not sleep at all. Though his short and long term memory were in tact. I would see him about every 3 months and he always recognized me, my kids, my husband, etc. He also never forgot my mom - his caregiver. He would tell stories both current and from the past. He did not repeat things.
Avatar f tn t remember (short term memory is a problem, too) and insists that she did not, and that she is constipated, and that she can feel that she is constipated. I found out that today she used 6 suppositories, and wanted me to go buy her more as she ran out. Is her sensation that she is constipated likely a result of overuse of suppositories and magnesium, or is there another likely explanation? (I'm assuming that constipation itself is probably not the issue.
