Avatar n tn he is now walking and talking but his short term memory has been very deeply affected, also his long term memory is bad,he does not seem to recall many events from the past and even though we are repetively repeating to him that he is in hospital he keeps asking where he is and saying there is nothing wrong with him.
Avatar m tn t cause these symptoms or others such as drowsiness, degraded intellectual activity, short-term memory loss, or hair loss (Lamictal), or otherwise have a fundamental downside such as not being practical for long-term use in the case of most anti-anxiety medication. As I mentioned, I have more an issue with depression than mania; the mania I encounter is hypomanic and controllable.
Avatar f tn Drug studies are only 4 to 8 weeks long I doub't there have ever been any long term (more than a year) studies on the long term use of gabapentin. For any one who is having trouble tapering off of gabapentin a magnesium supplement is very effective in reducing the severity of the withdrawal from gabapentin.
Avatar f tn Ambien absolutely can cause memory loss, more commonly short-term issues, but also some people have reported problems with their long term memory as well. The good news is...if other causes have been ruled out, and Ambien seems to be the culprit, the memory issues will resolve most times after the Ambien is safely tapered.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.

Avatar n tn I have been pretty lucky, because even with my short term memory problems, my confusion and my loss of direction, I have still been able to graduate from college and maintain a perfessional degree. However, my husband has recently noticed that my short term memory and confusion has gotten a lot worse and I am curious as to if the effects of my Brain Injury worsen with time.
963268 tn?1312900315 I have a friend with MS I've known since I was a kid...too many years ago. She's been in a wheel chair for 15 years and has no cognitive problems...My memory is getting worse. I think I'd rather be in the wheel chair.
Avatar m tn How long term? 6 months to a year is not that long to be on it, but if you are thinking like 5 to 10 years is more longer term. It is all definitely possible if it is needed, some times a drug will lose its ability to work after a while so has to be changed with another but I think if it works now then that's great and don't worry about the future to much, what will happen will happen. Sorry don't know about the memory and side effects long term.
Avatar f tn Although I have no problem remembering facts and figures and my short term memory is better than most, I have no long term memory of events. I know it's normal not to remember childhood, but I don't remember high school or college or anything I did there. In fact, my oldest memory is looking outside and seeing chairs on the lawn at my mom's birthday. That was two weeks ago and there only seems to be a vague, blank space before it. Memories just fade after a few weeks.
Avatar m tn hey guys, I was diagnosed with short term memory back in high school...teachers were made aware of this issue & I was given extra time to take tests/study. A few years have passed since then, but I find that I seem to be forgetting things quicker than I used to. For instance, I couldnt even remember the name of a movie I saw with my friend two days ago or our conversation....sometimes conversations hours after they have occurred. is there anythinng I can do to help improve my memory???
Avatar f tn There is no formula to tell you which results are permanent and which are temporary.Your short term memory loss is a manifestation of the head injury itself. In my opinion, you should consult a neurologist and get CT and MRI brain done to rule out other possibilities of headache and to find out the late sequelae of the head injury. For short term memory loss take a healthy nutritious diet containing lots of green leafy vegetables and fruits daily.

Avatar n tn Yes Fentanyl or any narcotic can effect our short term memories, regardless of our age. Physicians walk the fine line of memory impairment or pain management. It is my guess you would rather see your mother with some memory disturbances instead of dealing with chronic pain that would make her days and nights absolutely miserable.
Avatar n tn Hi I don't know I am just a lay person but I would be cautious about using any sleep medication with untreated sleep apnea. I wonder if your symptoms are the result of the sleep apnea vs the medication. Disturbed sleep can leave you feeling tired and low oxygen saturation levels could explain poor memory. I don't know of any long-term effects of Remeron. I have read that increased blood fats could pose a risk for some people though. This is said to be rare.
Avatar f tn Short term memory loss at your age sounds odd, Get it checked out asp. Try not to worry meanwhile. Memory is precious, long term seems to stay intact when the short term goes in my case.
Avatar f tn Hi, I too have had this issue pre and post op, and find it is more the short term memory that is the problem....when I was still working, I made a list of things I had to do at work on Monday's and put a time table that they had to be done, and did so for each day of the week, I also had my cheat sheets for the diff computer spreadsheets so I had a reference and by using it this helped my memory, so for things that have to be done daily a check list out in plain view is helpful....
Avatar n tn have daily short/long term memory loss for past 8 months that aware of... with this memory loss go away....?
Avatar f tn Keep in mind you are doing great and the end will be there, maybe even sooner then you think. 1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?
