Avatar f tn The Veterans Affairs HDL Intervention Trial (VA-HIT). 6 This was a placebo-controlled, randomized trial conducted in 20 Veterans Affairs medical centers. A total of 2531 men with coronary heart disease, mean HDL cholesterol 31.5 mg/dl and mean LDL cholesterol 111 mg/dl, were randomized to gemfibrozil 1200 mg/d or placebo and were followed up for 5 years.
Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old, female. I was put on Pravastatin about 9 weeks ago as my cholesterol had gone from 190 to 225 from the previous year. I have a family history of heart disease (my father passed away after a second heart attack at 53). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago and was placed on Levoxyl (75mg) and my levels have remained normal. I went to have my cholesterol checked after taking the pravastatin for 9 weeks.

Avatar n tn Each specialist has a different opinion as to whether or not I should continue with Coumadin - the gastroenterologist is concerned anbout the long term effects and GI bleeds and the cardiologist is concerned about the ongoing possibility of emboli...I'm caught in the middle. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Other than these two issues I'm in excellent health.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. In microvesicular ischemic disease of brain, pathology is associated with the brain white matter, either exclusively or in combination with grey matter changes. It occurs due to metabolism errors, exogenous toxins released by virus, autoimmune disease, leukodystrophy, demyelination, and radiation effects.
Avatar n tn Have you discussed this with your doctor? I was changed to Pravastatin recently. You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.
Avatar m tn Cardiac ischemia is the name for lack of blood flow and oxygen to the heart muscle. It's the term given to heart problems caused by narrowed heart arteries. When arteries are narrowed, less blood and oxygen reaches the heart muscle. This is also called coronary artery disease and coronary heart disease. This can ultimately lead to heart attack. Ischemia often causes chest pain or discomfort known as angina pectoris.
1806721 tn?1554333407 My doctor has put me on generic pravastatin 20mg. A few days after I started the drug, I had a fever with flu-like symptom, and when that went away in a few days, I have been having hip/knee pains and fatigue that gets worse over the course of 2 weeks. My question is: Could these symptoms be related with pravastatin? Will these symptoms go away after a while?
1806721 tn?1554333407 Is there any danger to take Ambien together with Pravastatin? I really very desperately need to sleep through the night... Thanks so much for your help!
Avatar f tn However, I stopped receiving the injections a few months ago due to concerns my doctor was having regarding long term side effects associated with the drug. I am currently on a prescription for vitamin D to prevent bone loss and have undergone bone density tests in the past, which have all tested negative for irregularities and loss of bone mass. I am beginning to get the horrible debilitating pain and bloating associated with Endo now worse than ever.
179856 tn?1333547362 1453–1463). Between March 5, 2003, and July 23, 2004, 630 subjects underwent initial screening. During the screening period, the subjects were not permitted to take any lipid-lowering treatments and entered a 4-week, single-blind, placebo lead-in period, during which time they were to have adhered to the National Cholesterol Education Program Step 1 diet.
Avatar m tn According to him, I may have arthritis in my heart, but how could he determine that if the only test he did was a stress test? I am worried that I have heart disease with the dizziness and weird feelings in my chest. I am not scheduled to go back to my doctor until July 12, and it sort of worries me to wait that long because it gives whatever is wrong with me time to progress.
Avatar m tn Nothing wrong related to the ear canal was found in the MRI, but Minimal periventricular white matter ischemic small vessel disease was noted in the report. Is this something I should be concerned with and look for further studies? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Im not sure if your ready for an intervention until you understand the depth of her addiction, and that addiction is a real disease, not just a term we use to justifie using. You can look up al-anon in your area, or talk to your church if you have one. I do agree with the ultimatum tho, if she wont recognize her problem and at least start to deal with it, you are gonna have to use the CPS threat. Like I said earlier, the baby is the only true innocent in this, and must be protected.
Avatar f tn I am concerned as to his long term prognosis with regard to the alcohol intake and what effect the alcohol will have with the medication. Does anybody have any experience with regard to alcohol and heart disease?
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome, There are actually different types of brain lesions with the most common being caused by Cerebral small vessel disease, which is basically an umbrella term with alternative names seen on MRI reports being Small vessel ischemic disease, White matter disease, Periventricular white matter changes, Perivascular chronic ischemic white matter disease of aging, Chronic microvascular changes, Chronic microvascular ischemic changes, White matter hyperintensities, Age-related white matter
Avatar n tn Does low LV function (30-35% ef) from ischemic MI, further reduce with age? Is the progration of disease faster at older age?
Avatar n tn As the brain ages, we tend to see a change in appearance around the fluid filled spaces (the ventricles). These changes are thought to be the long-term effects of atherosclerosis which cause less blood flow in these brain regions. Less blood flow means that the brain tissue can be irreversibly injured, which is referred to as "ischemic injury." Some MRI reports may state that "perivascular chronic ischemic white matter disease of aging" is seen.
Avatar m tn is severely diseased with long segment mixed plaque in proximal part causing severe stenosis. Lenth of stenotic segment is approx 4 cm. Distal circulation is good and septal branches are normal. No calcification seen LEFT CIRCUMFLEX : is normal with ggod circulation. There is tiny calcification in mid part with no evidence of significant stenosis. Obtuse marginal branches are normal. RIGHT CORONARY ARTERY : is non dominant and normal in origin with normal ostea.
Avatar m tn Clinical trails of Pravastatin, commonly used to lower cholesterol and decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease, do show an increase in parasympathetic modulation of heart rate. In simple words, Yes it does effect the heart rate to beat faster.
Avatar f tn 9% with pravastatin (Pravachol), 14.9% with atorvastatin (Lipitor), and 18.2% with simvastatin (Zocor). And you have been on both atorvastatin (Lipitor) and pravastatin (Pravachol). Once you stopped taking statin, the pain and aches should resolve. However, for some patients, it may take up to 2 months for symptom resolution.
Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
Avatar m tn Muscle cramps usually happen while lying in bed or playing sports or exercising. Overuse, injury, muscle strain, or staying in the same position for a long time can produce cramping. Without knowing the cause one cannot evaluate any risk associated with farther bike riding activity. It could also be a heart spasm of the coronary vessels, but that wouldn't have a residual effect when stretching the arms....the soreness would better associate with muscle spasm.
