Avatar m tn it is specially processed to reduce the amount of digestible carbs. It is delicious and has a low glycemic index. I read the other posters re:glycemic index but I disagree with them. I have managed to lower my A1C from a 9.8 to a 6 all with exercise and diet. You can do this, zeppo, and I will be rooting for you!
Monster I eat hi carb foods, or low carb foods, and my blood sugar does not come down when I eat the low carbs, it stays in the 130-140 range even then. I eat whole wheat bread, and sometimes do go to hi carb foods, and then it peaks up in the hi 160's. I am on Trajenta, have lost 19 lbs, and walk 3-4 times a week. Recently I had two injections of steroids, but it was two weeks ago, so I doubt that is the cause.
5747555 tn?1408727657 Also remember that vegetables are all carbs, so the notion of low carb diets is misleading -- what you really want to do is eat low on the glycemic index and eat what you digest well, but saying all fruit except the bitter ones is bad for you is probably going overboard unless you eat too much of them.
687527 tn?1227108766 Less carbs more protein. I don't think the all Atkins diet is healthy for but for someone with sugar issues you may want to eat foods that are low on the glycemic index. Don't cut carbs entirely as that isn't a good idea, just try to replace some carbs with proteins. Look up the glycemic index in the internet and try eating more of the foods that are low on that chart. Sweet potatoes are a carb but are actually low on the glycemic index so are actually really good for you.
3060903 tn?1398565123 long], however, contains 51 grams of carbs and 28 grams of carb sugar. Carbs turn into sugar after eating. Some diabetics can tolerate this amount of carbs and carb sugars while others not. The only way for you to know is to test b4 eating [preprandial] and 2-3 hrs after eating [postprandial]. I's best to eat fruits prior to a workout. Your body will burn of glycogen as energy is needed. Also, eat fruits which are low in fructose such as melons and berries.
Avatar n tn Right, try to follow the Glycemic Index of low and medium rated foods and that will help to lower your A1C and glucose readings.
Avatar n tn We mainly deal with type 1 on this site, as that is what we volunteers have life-experience with. The glycemic index of the foods that we eat affect all of us, with or without either type of diabetes so I checked around on the internet and found that the website for The American Diabetes Association (they focus on type 2 diabetes for the most part), has quite a few informational articles that you should find helpful if you do a search on "glycemic index". Their website is www.
Avatar f tn ve eaten even relatively small (compared to previously) amounts of some carbs, whether high or low glycemic. Yesterday, for example, I had a fasting BS of 244 in the morning. After a breakfast that included only one-sixth of a baked potato (less than one-half cup) along with several foods that were fairly low in carbs, I had a BS of 440 two hours post prandial! I think you are right, experimenting and recording results seems to be rather important.
Avatar m tn I just took my first med this morning called Glipzide. Thanks for the information about the Glycemic levels of food. I never looked at the packages of food that way before. Avatar f tn (I know people will rail against white rice but whole grain or brown rice contain too much anti-nutrients and can cause leaky gut syndrome) Make sure to eat those starches with protein and fat to help reduce the spikes of glucose. Do not go low fat, your growing baby NEEDS saturated fat in order to build healthy neuro-processors. Just stay away from trans-fats (mostly found in processed foods). Also, eliminate as much unnecessary sugars from your diets, or limit them to infrequent treats.
Avatar f tn Did this person tell you to cut all carbs, or just simple carbs? Vegetables are carbs. Fruit are carbs. Whole grains are carbs. Beans are a combination of protein and carbs. I think what most would advise is to avoid white flour, bagels, sweets, anything that turns to sugar quickly in your system. That's why you're craving sugar -- carbs are necessary for energy, and sugar is quick energy but also stores as fat if not burned immediately. Same with processed carbs.
Avatar f tn Here is the answer to this question. In order to lose weight, you have to subtract calories. Safe weight loss is 1-2 lbs/week, so in order to lose 1 lb/week, you'd have to drop 500 calories from your BMR each day (1 lb is equal to 3500 calories, so 500 calories X 7 days = 3500 calories or 1 lb). OR you can drop 250 calories from your diet and increase exercise to use an additional 250 calories. Changing up calorie counts and exercises will help prevent plateau.
Avatar f tn Hyperinsulinism is prediabetes. Insulin causes the body to store fat. PCOS is a separate issue, but they both cause weight gain/inability to lose. With preidiabetes and PCOS, I'd have to wonder if you've also had your thyroid tested to make sure you don't have hypothyroidism, since it's basically the thyroid that controls metabolism, specifically, a hormone called Free T3. With prediabetes, you need to eat foods that are on the low glycemic list.
Avatar n tn carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing sugar more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. As asok mentioned, watch the carbs. Carbs are wreak havoc to a t2 diabetics glucose level. 2. Avoid eating foods made with white flour; pasta, white breads, crackers and so on. These turn quickly into sugar after eating. 3. Milk contains sugar. Eat fruit and drink fruit juices with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose [fruit sugar]. 4.
790165 tn?1268836968 I've been following a low glycemic index diet; it's supposed to be beneficial to women with PCOS because of the whole insulin resistance issue...
9714743 tn?1466703906 A board certified endocrinologist highly recommends food that are in the low glycemic index range. Not enough time to explain the glycemic index except the lower the range the less spiking of blood sugar. A food that is 50 or lower should be okay to eat. There are sites and books. One I bought and read is the "Low GI handbook" Includes charts and recipes. Good luck to you.
20620809 tn?1504362969 Here's a list of low glycemic foods... https://universityhealthnews.com/daily/nutrition/glycemic-index-chart/ The food is listed, along with the serving size in parenthesis, then the glycemic value. The lower the glycemic value, the better. There are a lot of other lists available on the internet - just do a search for "low glycemic foods". Most vegetables "qualify" as low glycemic, except things like white potatoes, etc.
Avatar f tn In general Low Glycemic foods help to keep blood sugar even and helps to prevent those highs and lows. The treatment for epilepsy is like keto in that it is low carb and limits carbs, but of the carbs allowed, they must be low glycemic and again ... must be done only through a trained doctor (blood work needs to be done frequently). Here is another link to a site called Matthews Friends: http://site.matthewsfriends.
1085545 tn?1284042254 Anything high in fiber is better as it reduces the usable carbs. Soups are good. I eat eggs for breakfast with one piece of bread. There are sites that list the carbs of various foods like calorieking.
Avatar n tn Today about 20 minutes after my lunch I started sweating, feeling weak, heart racing, etc. I checked my blood sugar and it was 71 after eating a chicken salad, salad. I checked it before eating and it was 77 so why would it go down after eating a salad and a few wheat crackers? 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
